This is the place to organize, brainstorm, plan and execute testing of Second Life 1.7 in the Preview Grid. Let's get together and make some incredible things happen!

Note from Vektor Linden:

*Please* do not put feature suggestions in the Preview 1.7 thread. They will be moved as soon as I see them.

Thanks!

ADD ... cut option in inventory so we can better manage inventory items
EDIT ... when making a folder give the option to NAME it upon creation so we can better manage folders

I'm simple, that's all I have been begging for since I was born :)

Ok, might be wrong but I don't think this is the place for suggesting new enhancements or bug fixes to go into 1.7 - for example, see http://secondlife.com/vote/ for new features.
.

Seems to me like the intent of this thread is planning for 1.7 (whatever it contains).

Am I missing something? I don't see a 1.7 preview download on the Downloads page. Or, is this pre-beta?

No, it's not out yet. In response to Residents who strongly clamored to LL to have better planning and foresight, all of this preliminary Preview 1.7 work is to lay the ground, the foundation for when the Previews actually do come. In the meantime, a lot of brainstorming and bugfixing involving the current 1.6.x is taking place. :)

Right. Please do not use any branch of this forum thread for feature suggestions or requests. Any suggestions must relate directly to the testing of 1.7. All other requests must go through the normal channels...

Thanks!

pay to test
05-17-2005 06:18
I know this came up in the Preview meeting, but I still say it would be a great idea to "pay" Previewers for testing... Then Vendors etc could also be tested, as well as getting more people testing. The individual tests could have different payouts, to direct the attention to where it is needed.

A lot of non technical people are in SL and get wildly confused by changes in the UI. If only the egg heads test, the "I am on holiday here" types get lost when they come on the new version. These people will gladly test for Bucks, I think, if they can at the same time "be on holiday" in preview. And if testing enables their "holiday" (in Preview only, of course), well...
you get more tesing done, and by non genius types, like me for example :-)

Payout of course on completion of a test... or L$ X per day/hour of using things on the preview grid. Maybe testing rooms? where you can get a payout when you answer a key question correctly, or when you fill out an activity report?

My point is to get MORE people testing, as a normal user would when the version goes live. And especially the non builder/scripters... they want function that works and is intuitive. Which would be nice to have tested by as many hundreds as we can get.

LL would have to pay minimum wage. Big lawsuit a number of years ago where a game company payed the testers some small gratuity amount, and the testers came back and wanted a bigger piece of the pie (and won). Think it was Ultima Online.

Current preview doesn't actually test very well - preview has next to no social activity and no economy.

TSO has a Test Center city which actually functions as a game - it has the same economy etc as any TSO city and a resident population (I used to be a resident).

As a basic I couldn't do any of the tests that involved land on preview. A friend bought land on preview and had to tier up. This seems slightly farcical.

Although all content creators could/should test their creations on preview - clearly the skin/tattoo makers didn't. Clearly the guy who sold poker tables that were broken by 1.6 didn't.

I'd like to ask what we think the function of the preview grid is - what it should be for - and therefore how to we get it to fulfil that.

Currently it seems to be used for scripting experiments to test new features. We can't simulate normal SL activity. We can't run a normal social event - and if we did the clientelle is different. We can't see if things break under load.

They did not have to their up.. It's just that their preview land was being added to their tier of mid Feb by the preview grid so they were not allowed to complete the purchase of the land. Sometime after preview started Vektor made sure everyone was tierd up in preview to allow the purchase of land for anyone.

Durring the planning stages for 1.7 we will be discussing things such as required tier, the number of sims required for testing, the ammount of L$ that will be needed for testing and how to make sure those L$ are used for testing, rather than product demos, and how to allow for product testing. If anyone is interested in how 1.7 turns out in the slightest way, I encourage you to join us in the Preview 1.7 group for planning and stay for the preview.

I would love to test my vehicles in the preview, but my join date is too late.

I'd be willing to rebuild one of them from scratch, prim for prim, and copy/paste the scripts into Preview to test it if I could get there...

Considering you're already in 1.6 right now, I don't think that would be neccesary. By 1.7 you will be able to enter preview though, so you need not wory about rebuilding for that as well.

Add the ability for renters to be able to modify land options or at least modify media land options. Also, allow regular members to deed items so we do not have to ask our landlords to help us all the time.

As a lightly seasoned beta tester of other games, I would be happy to join this group if you want people who like to test limits but also love this 'world'. Strife may be willing to recommend me as friendly and willing (but a hopeless jumper  ) I DO break things very well but I can landscape over the worst damage.

This is a good idea you might want to take to the Feature Suggestions forum. That is the place the Lindens are looking for suggestions for new features..

Hope with 1.7
05-23-2005 04:38
All the I want from 1.7 is to be able to play the game without crashing all the time/and guest crashing.

The SIM CPU I live on goes down to .02 which is non functioning. Customer service may not be part of 1.7 but should be a part of SL. I have received 0 to none. Crossing fingers that soon I will be heard or 1.7 will actually make my second life worth living again.

I must say, I like the newfound initiative. Stress testing is crucial for games like SL, and it's nice to see the Lindens responding to customer demands.

Gosh that sucks -- actually you know, that may have been related to a memory leak thing which the Lindens are aware of and have been working on fixing. Next time you're on, if the problem still keeps up, I'd recommend asking a Liaison about it and go from there. How many times have you asked before? :)

Back from vacation
06-08-2005 09:12
Hi all!

I know that these forums have been dry for a few weeks - I've been on vacation. After clearing an acre of brush and replacing the 150 year old horsehair plaster in my moms living room, I'm back and ready.

Thanks for all the hellos during my absence - I'll try and get back to everyone who emailed me!

With calloused hands and all my best,

Vek.

1.7 preview grid hasnt even been established. It will have currency and an economy. 1.6.x has had currency disabled for now.
