LOOKS LIKE WE'RE ON A ROLL! What a productive discussion, I hope it actualizes into something MASSIVE.

These ideas are wonderful, though I think the "land for sale" only was ever a one color overlay.
Its great to see these new suggestions. I was assuming they would not give the map any priority in effort allocation, and the most we could hope for was the reinstatement of the old overlay they just removed - surely very little effort at all.
It would be grand if instead you could persuade them to a major upgrading, so long as other more critical stuff is not delayed.

Not sure what you mean by "one color overlay" but the Land For Sale has two colors (well, more if you count shading/fading), white for resident selling land and purple for auction land. They should add in another color for First Land IMO. And I agree, I'd love to see more map features as suggested here, but if it pulls from other stuff, only do whats nessisary to keep it congruent with the current map features.

We hear your laments, screams and "OMG I'M LEEVING SL IF U DON'T PUT TEH LANDS SALEZ BACKz0r! w00t!"'s. The old process of mapping land sales was not only slow (on average the Land Sales map was 3 days old!), but it was also an 'expensive' process. This means it took a lot of time and a lot of computing resources to make the Land Sales map. It was removed in 1.7 for this reason. Nevertheless, we are trying to find a way to bring it back. I'm going to send a link to this thread to the man in charge of all things cartographic in Second Life. Please be aware that we are in bug-fixing mode right now and new features (even if they bring back old features ) are not being worked on. That said, we do see your point of view, and will make an effort to 'fix' this 'bug' . Now, on to another interesting question: How would you feel about putting Land Sales in the Mini-Map (for the record, I liked Radar better )? Since the sim already knows there is land for sale and you can see that flying over the sim it seems like a good alternative to the very expensive and out-of-date world map view of land sales. Another idea is to put the new auto-complete region chooser in to the Land Sales Directory. You could then search for only land in your sim, or, you could search a radius of say 3 or 4 sims. Hows that sound? Keep in mind the above are only my suggestions and *not* actual features that are being planned. Anything like this would probably have to wait for a future 1.7.x patch.

I think on the minimap is also a good suggestion as you can right click and zoom out but im not sure as a replacement, also in the main grid i dont see much point for the "region land usage" display on the minimap, as it only seems to differentiate between public land and private, and you know how quickly that is snapped up with scanners etc.

How about whenever a plot of land goes up for sale, it gets added to a central database. If it's bought, it's removed, and so on. This might require an extra server, but it should allow for real-time land data.

Hows that sound? Thank you Brent. As for your question, I like the first suggestion more than the second. But only as an optional overlay on the Mini-Map perhaps on the right click menu (I personaly miss the old 1.0 Mini-Map extensions that you could toggle on/off). Limiting land searching would suck. I do like the idea Nathan proposed, but again a bigger resource taker. Actualy a Mini-Map option would be *more* usefull than our current Land For Sale thing. While we're on the topic, I'd like the ability to turn off "My Objects" or even "All Objects" on the Mini-Map, why? Sometimes the green of the T's (and upside down T's) is hard to see against the blue of My Objects. And it'd also be neat to have a Terrain-Only view on the Mini-Map. Oh and Pft, Radar was totaly an incorrect name! Thinking about it's name the name "Overhead View" comes up, then quickly goes away, however! The idea of an Overhead View (a camera view of your avatar from above as well as the landscape) would be neat... but I'm ranting here. Edit to add: Oh and how about the usercount of users online and overall users added from the front page to the World Map?

Land Sales *will* be back!

There have been lots of comments here on the missing...and presumed dead...land sales tab of the world map.
Never fear! The ability to view land for sale on the map will be available in 1.7.0. While it is not yet ready, we didn't want to hold up preview testing simply to wait for it to be added. Look for this feature's return in an upcoming preview release.

Any new features in the minimap i would want to be able to disable. I don't really want to see land for sale all the time.

Land sales are now back on the map, look above show telehub coverage, not sure on the accuracy, but shows the same kinda detail as per the old extra sets of maps but only needing a viewer generated overlay, i'm sure with this method they could do different colors for auctions but there isnt any auction land on the preview so cant tell.

I like it, it looks nice! Fun thing to do is to turn it on and zoom out and see your map completely over come with all the little icons. Hehe. Now if just the People count would show the right ammount of people.

I wouldnt be surprised to see some of those getting faded out on zoom out, i still wish the map detail was there at the midrange zoom level as the lesser detailed map looks quite fuzzy at the larger sizes, also the red down sims should always be on in low and hi rez maps
