Why did no-one tell us land sales are removed from map?

Looking at the preview I am horrified that the "land for sale" option has been removed from the map. I don't know if temporarily or permanently, but in the absemce of evidence we have to assume the latter.
I know that there were delays of an hour or two in updating this data. I know that idiots with no regard for others thought it funny to put their land for sale for $1000/m and presumably giggled as unfortunates trekked cross-country for a futile viewing.
But nevertheless it was very, very useful to me, and I deplore its apparent unannounced removal.
I want it back. I want the rest of you to scream here in this thread with me to try to achieve its return.
I found it invaluable for the following.
1. Each time I go home after an absence, I check the immediate surroundings to see what is changing, to check if any adjacent plots I might want are available, and to assess whether this might be a good or bad time for me to sell.
2. When I want to buy land, I find the "find" method inadequate. I may want land on the edge of a lake, on a promontory, near a telehub, far from a telehub, near some other place, activity, or person. The map, and only the map, can do this for me. I once went searching for 4 plots together spanning a sim corner. Via the map I found three instances. How else could I have done that ?
3. Auction land. How else can one get a picture of where mainland sims are being newly created ? Use this overall picture to decide where one might or might not want to invest ? Either in auction land itself or in adjacent property ?
So help me. I'm sure you want it too. Scream with me...

And so do I - well, the "Land for Sale" map feature anyway. It's really helpfull to assess the overall situation when looking for land to buy: are there plots for sale in a particular sim, or at least its neighbors, how much land is for sale in the sim anyway, what sizes are the parcels etc. Now if there was a possibility to overlay the plot size and asking price as tooltip, that would be the icing But just having the "Land for Sale" map back would be cool too.

Yes, strange. Wasn't in the release notes.

I used this, as well, for various nefarious purposes.
Seriously though, I loved this feature.

I'm confused as to why there were any changes to the map when there were no helpfull changes to the Find.
I'd like to see Land For Sale and New Objects return as I enjoyed looking at them.

I guess it's just a bug. I think they're integrating all the maps into a single map. (Also explains all the map testing going on). So we prob. see land for sale back as an option instead of a separate map.

I wonder how often this display, if brought back to 1.7, will update during a day. 'Specially with quick landsales and all... things change so fast here. Sheesh.

I asked about this when i saw it had gone because i've always used the map to buy land as the land listing is well pretty much useless, too cluttered and cant search by sim or get a good indicature or pg or mature unless the person has filled in the description, but aparently in 1.6 its generated once per day along with all the other map terrains etc but the actual sale data can be upto 3 days out of date.
And im guessing with the extra detail in the other maps it might me alot of data to send to you for however many sims there are online now, just for the odd time you buy land.

But Nathan, from watching it update I'm virtually certain it doesn't get sent to you until you ask for it by clicking the tab. No click, no send.

Yes i think your right there, and also in the new map there seems to be a better texture when your zoomed in very close.
Im sad to see it go i think its very usefull, i really do hate the land section in directory as its now called, no way to tell whats forsale in my own sim or any desired sim.
I hope they read this and reconsider even if it means a lower texture quality, and just improving any data that is needed for the creation once per night.

We don't actually know its gone, do we ? Just because its not in this preview version. Would they really have just wiped it out with no announcement, no discussion, not even a mention in the attached change notes ? Surely not, for shame.
But lets scream in case. If its gone its a very, very major loss which should not be slipped past us with at least a very persuasive case being made as to WHY.

The maps had a total overhaul so it being missing from that, i think its gone unless they can be persuaded it is a loss, i think loosing the other tabs objects for sale and new objects was a good move, i never really used them, leaving just what im guessing is a merged objects tab and a terrain tab

I have a suggestion!
Instead of having tabs, why don't we have the Legend have each thing checkable...
Like you know how you can turn on and off "People" and "Telehubs"...
How about being able to turn on and off:
- Buildings - New Buildings - Land For Sale - You - Home
That way you could have a completely bare map, or a completely full map!

^ There's a man with a plan, since there is already a certain amount of map data that can be overlayed. This would be like layers of 7-layer Jello. CHECKBOXES NOT TABS!

How about mapping the land finder over to the world mapa, ala the Google Maps pins? That would be REALLY useful; you could search for the right price and size, AND have it displayed on a map.

^ There we go, rolling on, GALVANIZE! I'd lurve seeing that numerical data represented, and if there was a way to zoom even closer, that'd come in handy. Maybe even a way to walk through SL in an aerial view like There. Hmmm!

Here's a nutso idea...
How about actually taking the Google Maps code (It's free), making the SL sim snapshots available online, putting a search thingy online, and finding virtual land on the internet?

If that's nutso, I want more nuts! VISIONARY! Post this one in Hotline To Linden... really onto something good here. For all the talk of "transparency" this would be a YUGE bridge. Someday buying virtual land won't be laughed at so much anymore, I bet this, enacted in some way, will be a big part of it. Plus, you get people who aren't part of SL curious about what's going on here, and draw them deeper into the world as a result, in a manner not dissimilar to how Video Linden is supposed to enchant the voyeurs. Heck, someone could just browse and zoom the map for pretty pictures of an "alternate virtual reality" and then get really fixated and COME ON IN! I'm convinced it's brilliant. Technically feasible? I don't know for sure but Lindens are bright so BRING IT ON!!!

...And when we get Firefox (Powered by Mozilla Technology), it could be browseable in-world.
I really don't feel like suggesting it, though. I'm a bit wary of annoying the Lindens, due to a previous Bad Experience.

Well i would suggest talking to brent inworld as he's the one who stood over the dev with the map plans lolol, i love the idea of the overlays because really they dont need to be very detailed and only one color well two including the alpha, but it doesnt need the huge terrain detailed map drawing as it now.
But in therory, they aleady have a plain terrain map for us in there so whats to stop them developing this and having another tab using this blank texture terrain they already have and overlaying various data.

Excellent ideas Keknehv!! When they first changed the Front page of SL.com to have the map up I thought "Why isn't that interactable like the one we have in-world?" and suggested such when there was a thread on the website. I'd love to see what you suggested!

Hey, could someone drop a notecard to Brent about this? I can't log onto SL right now, and I'll probably forget by tomorrow. You could just put this section of the thread into the notecard (copy-paste) and give it to him. Thanks for the kind words

I bug reported the map about something about the legends and included that too
E1 Preview V1.7.0.27 Map errors has been received. Your request has been assigned an ID of [rt.lindenlab.com #112583]
Steps to reproduce the bug:
Map not showing building or objects as in the legent for the terrain tab, on the objects tab objects are being shown in red not black, also could we please please please please, have a land for sale tickbox if not a seperate map back, akin to show teleport coverage it turns the map a different color where there is land for sale, either via computer generated graphics or via a single color overlay image ontop of the original texture image to save the generation of another set of detailed maps
