Since the last update 'improvement', other Avatars are blurred unless I put my cursor directly on them. As soon as I remove my cursor they become a fuzzy again. Is there any remedy for this or is it just another improvement? we will have to suffer with forever?

This has been a issue for some time, see:
/111/6d/126243/1.html /111/23/118626/1.html There are other threads about this as well. It only appears to be getting worse. It was only on prims but now is on avatars as well. Sometimes closeing inventory, minimap, and all other windows, clearing cache, logging back in and waiting for everything to finish downloading, THEN bring up your inventory and do a search so it starts loading and wait till it finshes, log out then back in. At least I have less blurry textures this way. But I still have them. Sometimes is better than other though. Usually when a texture first loads it is fine, but the problem occurs when it is reloading from the cache. -DB |

Seriously, hu hu grrr (stampa, stampa)

This is a serious problem that needs LL attention. People don't want to wait 2 hrs for a vendor to rez, or go through the whole "clearing cache, relogging, waiting for rezzing, and search inventory" clusterfux of a workaround (not that it works, mind you) every time they teleport somewhere.
Its gotten so ridiculous that I won't even leave my sim or store to explore anymore. In fact, since the grass layer of land textures doesn't rez for me anymore and the underlying mud layer looks like someone puked up a milkshake, I don't even go to the surface much. Who cares what "amazing builds" are in SL if you can't see them? Oh, and don't even get me started about the "realism" of sinking into the ground after crossing invisible boundaries, or the way building objects or sorting inventory feels like you're playing pick-up-sticks in Jello with telephone poles using your mouse. But what do you want for free, right? For a free program I guess we can't ask for much. Oh, you PAY!?!?! Haha (oops sorry, that was a sneeze, honest) If anybody wants me, I'll be sitting on a prim in my skybox, wearing the same shiat I had on for the past 3 weeks since changing clothes is also a lesson in futility. You might want to get upwind of me and IM me from a distance, though. These socks are about ripe by now. |

Fix This Ll!!!
08-09-2006 15:35
Ok, I'm fed up enough with this that I am posting in EVERY thread concerning it that I can find. Pardon the duplication, but this has not been resolved, or even acknowledge as a bug that is in the pipeline for being fixed, in any of the recent or upcoming releases. Its a serious problem, it affects playability in a MAJOR way, it is worst with avatars since clicking on the object in question is impossible there (which seems to force them to load in other cases for me), and its getting infuriating.
I would like to see my friends, not blobs of derezzed, or worse, rezzing and immediately derezzing textures. Fix it LL, and for god's sake, engage in a little customer relations and let us know that you've a) heard us crying out for help on this one; b) are addressing it; and c) what kind of progress you're making. Bugs and issues become tolerable when we get a sense that someone cares, is trying to fix it, and is willing to communicate with us about how that process is going. Perhaps if you engaged us a little more, the level of frustration with what's not working might drop. Its the silence, the lack of any acknowledgement at all, or any seeming awareness of the problem, that, as much as anything else, makes this such a frustrating experience. |

Graphics card memory
08-17-2006 19:06
I have been experiencing this blurring problem as well, and it as been frustrating me to no end. But, after some testing, I think I may have a clue and would like to get some other people to try and verify this by reporting your results.
I have 2 computers that I run SL on. One has an ATI 9700 with 64mb of memory and the other is an ATI 9800 with 128mb of memory. I have seen the blurring on both, but it is much worse and more frequent on the 9700. Especially the avatar blurring. Since the last few versions, I basically can't see anyone in focus without mousing over them on the 9700. My theory is that the result of the blurring is due to not quite enough of video ram since some of the graphics changes have been implemented. I think the client is now blurring/compressing the avatar textures to make room for other textures being displayed. I am no expert on 3d graphics, but it seems to me they need to do a few things. They should set avatar texture priority higher than object textures. The should improve the distance priority. If you are right next to someone, their textures should have much higher priority than something acrossed the room. The final thing they should do is add a slider to control the maximum size of textures loaded into video memory. I have seen this on many other 3d games. Most people use 512x512 or smaller textures, but sometimes I have seen 2048x2048 textures. If I could elect to have these reduced by the client before passing to video memory, I think it could help a lot. So, I would like to get some feedback as to how much blurring you are seeing and how much video memory you have. Hopefully this could help the Lindens get this problem solved. |

Well in my case your theory does not hold up as I am using the same computer and video card and sometimes the textures are perfect. For instance today I was teleporting all over for some time cleaning out old Landmarks. And the textures were perfect (avatar as well as prims). Even in stores that had many many many different textures. Last night everything was blurry except for a few textures and most of the avatar textures were blurry as well as the prims. I could get them to rez fully if I put my pointer on them but that is anoying to no end.
So it is obviously not the video card memory as sometimes it works great other times it is terrible with the same exact system. -DB |
