How many attempts did you make to choose a name on sign up to SL?

How many attempts did you make to choose a name that you were happy with when you signed up to SL?

NB: I am also running a poll on how many people you know with the same surname, it will be interesting to see how the survey results compare....

I think three. I wanted to be Monalisa and insisted on an italian last name. Robbiani was still available.

I forgot to enable my browser settings allowing w/e the site needed when I was signing up,
so when I did and went to redo,
the last name wasn't! on the list anymore ... which was odd to me when it was a min before.
But eh I don't mind my surname in SL, I go by foe anyways.

When I went for my first account, over two years ago, I got the first one I asked for. So my reply in the survey was 'once'.

But when I made an alt recently, I tried over *30* surnames and was *still* unable to get "Molly" as a given name! I finally had to go with Maire, which is a Gaelic name that is often simplified to Molly. Humph!

For Oryx, just one try. My alt, though, I had to try a bunch of times, like 5 or so.

I'm pretty sure it was the first try, although coming up with the name was a problem in the first place. I didn't realize that I was going to have to pick from assigned last names. I had created a name for myself, as I'm sure others did too and was disappointed that I couldn't use it. Spent way too much time looking over the Linden list debating back and forth what was going to sound good with the first name I'd already picked and did not want to give up.

Just one ^^ Jocgart has been my nick during years (I was using it long ago before SL ) and Larsen... just liked it

And for my alt... I knew the name I wanted for him (Joccie xD LOL), and my fiancée created the account choosing surname and all that... I really like it ^^

One - I selected my name very carefully - Jig has many meanings and can be applied to a number of situations. I guess it must be the same for most people here. It is either our real "pet" name or has implied meaning to ourselves.

Just one...I'm known as Graphicguru elsewhere in the internet. My friends in SL call me Graph for short

I got my name on the first try. I later found out that my last name had just been added to the list two days earlier. That's probably the only reason why a common name like Rob was still available.

first name in 1 time but the last name took several attempts, at times tho i wished i`d have picked a shorter one but did that with the alt wich was done in 1 time with the first and last name

Just one. I picked the first name I use as my username everywhere online. None of the last names really jumped out at me, so I picked one that looked like my cat's name (Abe).

First try for me, but I suspect I picked a name combination that wouldn't be that common. I do remember it took me 5 or 10 minutes to decide on something, looking over all the available last names trying to think of something that sounded good.

First time for me, too. Isabeau is close to my RL name (people call me Isa inworld and out) and Imako rhymed I guess. To be honest I chose fairly quickly without realizing I wouldn't be able to change it afterwards. Click, click, click enter - just wanted to get in as fast as possible. I feel kinda dumb now. I didn't even know people would be able to see my last (or first) name on top of my head. I almost typed random letters 'cause I wasn't really expecting to have to pick a name right away. Something like ùhzbs Imako.

That's commmon (and a lot of those are obvious *g*)

This name was an act of desperation. After being disappointed over having to choose a surname from a list, I spent an hour or more on the list considering names and even typing a bunch of them out. I never found a single one I really wanted that was still available.

"Drivin' Sideways" was the name of a band that rocked my native central New York State area *mumblemumble* years ago. I thought it was a cool name at the time, and it came to memory when I saw "Sideways" on the list. Other than my 1 fellow Sideways here I've met perhap 2 or 3 inworld. I've never used it to launch a conversation.

Just the one time although my Alt I had to slap 2 Ns on the name.

i got mine on the first try - i was pretty surprised - i guess it's not that popular a name as i thought.

Mine was a test account, which I decided to keep(Crazy me). Blabla2 Eponym, Blabla was not available.

Can you imagine that such a silly name was already taken, 2 years ago?.

After having chosen this name because of a band in my fond teenage memories, a few weeks ago I found a T-shirt on SLX bearing the words:

"Warning: Drive Sideways (Japanese road sign)"

I've been wearing it ever since.
