I don't know about any of you but has anyone noticed a wave of hostility in SL lately?? Maybe it's because I'm more active or putting myself out on a limb more often but a lot of people are REALLY bitchy! People can't seem to make comments or criticism without adding insult or bad attitudes.
Jealousy is rearing it's ugly head everywhere as well, mostly in the form of anonymous cowards. Go get some fresh air before you flip out and think about wtf you're doing lol. Everything will be okay, just click your heels three times or something. Is there something in the virtual water?

I'm with you there Torrid, but I was thinking along the lines of how negative people are about everything.
I go to various SL sites as well as the forums and i'm shocked sometimes at the amount of negativity I find, if these people don't like something or say some goods, why comment on them saying something negative? Isn't it better to say nothing at all, or if its in a negative way, make it constructive, not bloody useless.
There is one hell of a lot of cattery and bitchiness about lately, I for one don't normally pay too much attention, and I normally take it to heart if it's about me, kinda like me being a bad bad Inventory Bloater... but hey it's MY SL.. if LL want to charge me for extra, i'll happily pay, give me a charity to donate it too, i'll happily do so. I will live MY SL how I want, and if I was a creator or a designer, I would design and create how *I* wanted to, but the critisim and jealously rearing its head would get to me, I know it would, I'm a highly sensitive person and hate any kind of bad vibe going on.
I guess in short, I hear ya Torrid, aren't we here to have fun, enjoy ourselves and immerse ourselves in a way of escaping RL woes for a bit (for at least some of us), noone knows whats going on in anyone elses life unless they talk about it, so, people please, before you dish out the wallops with the club, or you tear a strip off someone about something that really DOESN'T matter, just take a moment to listen to yourself and how fscking ridiculous and stupid you might sound! and I know, I KNOW, you don't CARE what ppl are going thru in their RL, it's not their SL.. but have a lil compassion eh? Think before you speak! It's EASY!
RANT OVER.
Ty Torrid for saying it so much better than I could LOL

I couldn't agree more. I've noticed (especially in the forums) that there just seems to be an infux of people whose sense of entitlement grants them the right to complain about everything without having to lift a finger to even remotely attempt to make Second Life a better place. Yet, the ones that try to make SL a better place are often perceived to be whatever the term du jour is... FIC.... SIC.... Powe Elite etc.
Sure, Linden Lab isn't perfect, but if they hate them so much and hate SL so much then why are they here? Well other than to exercise their rights of entitlement to complain about everything LL does without ever offering a suggestion as to how it could be done better.
There just seems to be so much animoscity towards anyone who is perceived to be popular or who has business interests in SL. Personally speaking, I didn't ask to be popular, heck I don't even try to be popular, but some people still feel the need to call me elitist and self-righteous based on that perceived popularity. Tehy assume that I am up on my high and mighty throne with the rest of the power elite, when in actuality I'm dressed as a banana riding around in a shopping cart minding my own business. I never once realized how much it sucks to be popular sometimes. It also makes me reconsider many of my actions over the course of my life where I chided the popular ones the same way I am now being chided. I guess it takes some getting used to. I'm not elitist nor am I self-righteous and I really don't want to be one of those people completely unconcerned with the opinions of others "beneath" them. But, I fear that someday I may have no choice in that matter.
I've also noticed a big fear of business coming in to SL or SL as a platform not as a free mode of entertainment coming about lately. I think that it will balance out in the end as it did on the internet. There are plenty of things one can do for free on the internet and there are many business opportunities on the internet. The same will follow true for SL. Second Life is on the verge of really breaking through to the mainstream in the way that the internet did back in the mid-90s. You can embrace or fear it. I choose to embrace because I am curious as to what the future has in store for us.

I was wondering if something was in the water as well. A friend sent me a blog url that had all sorts of nasty comments about her in it. As I read, I got teary eyed. I think it probably bothered me more than her. I have a miss fix it, mighty mouse to save the day complex, and what really sucks is that you cant really bish slap anyone face who's anonymously pecking at their keyboard horrible insults. Only thing worse than someone messing with me is someone messing with my friends and I can't do anything about it. Maybe it shouldn't bother me at all, but easier said than done with someone who actually has feelings and cares about people. I just ask that others concentrate more on themselves instead of trying to tear down others.

I've seen it too and it makes me very sad some days.
I chalk it up to the freedom of anonymity. Seems to me that these are folks with pain, anger and frustration in their first lives... so they bring it here where they can vent freely without worrying much about consequences.
Personally when I feel like that, I log into a game and kill monsters. Maybe people forget that SL has no NPCs.

I've noticed this in SL between a lot of furry areas. I try to help where I can to just stop the fighting. Bitching about bitching really doesn't solve anything. That's one big problem with furries. So many areas are "anti-drama" and all, and everyone in them is all like "We hate drama! Everyone who causes drama can just die!" and crap. Like that's solving anything. I just ignore that stuff and try to help out where I can.
I've run a nice furry area for a while now, which used to be really popular until there were some problems and we moved to private sims, but we've never had any problems like this. If you're nice to people, they're usually nice enough back, and usually nice to other people. If you throw a bunch of no drama signs all over the place in a popular area, you've pretty much started a witch hunt from all of your butt kissers.

I take into account what people have to say about things and then I realize that some people are just a waste of time and others will never be happy no matter what do you do for them.

And its for that reason I really don't understand why alot of content creators are selling shapes now. The avatar shape is what really defines how we look. It just seems odd to buy off the shelf shapes. I have been modifying mine since I started SL in 2003. It makes me wonder if people are that lazy or just don't know how to use edit -> appearance.

I was trying to decide between getting hostile about the hostile people or getting hostile about the people getting hostile about people getting hostile... But that's a good way to get trapped in kooky-la-la mirror land. So I'll just be hostile to off-color watermellons instead... DAMN YOU, WEIRDO FRUIT!!!

Awww Jenn dont get down on us shape buyers, I bought one sure but I wont tell anyone where, its not very well known, and I did make it my own, I just needed a little help. What can I say I'm promotionally gifted and graphics challanged. Plus I cant spell to save my life.
As to the orginal topic I to have noticed it, whole blogs dedicated to tearing down peoples work, and enough negative whining and bitching in the forums thats it makes me sad and kind a sick to see how many people either dont get it or wont get it, or are jealous cuz they cant make it happen.
But as my father told me as a child - this to shall come to pass.

I can see buying a base shape as a starting point for modification. Though I am not sure I quite understand getting a shape and never modifying it.

From: Barnesworth Anubis Its spring and we are all frisky Spring? It's mudsummer's day in less than 4 weeks... I put it down to petty jealousy. So, here's Sio's formula for a happier SL... Next time someone says something nasty about you, offer them a hug... and if they refuse, just shrug, and hug someone else.
