Please see the Terms of Service.

We have a downtime policy there--3.8.

This is frustrating to all of us. :(

Please see Announcements & News for more info.

YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME! lmao........ now lets say i'm going to the movies, and i go there every week. and every week the movie cuts out.. and they say "we are trying to correct the problem" and "please wait patiently it will return soon" and i sit..... and wait... and sit.... and wait... and nothing happens. then i get up to leave and want my money back. Do you think the manager of the movies is gonna tell me "NO. Read the fine print on your ticket", "we will give you part of your money if you keep waiting untill its fixed"
I sure wouldnt be back in that place again.. i can see once.. or twice.. for a little bit ya know. But having the grid going down for the time it has and the amount of times it has is rediculous. and this should be approched in a better manner by the workers. We pay for our time. and if we dont get it we should be reimbursed for what we have lost.

But again.. thats just my opinion.

good customer service is good customer service.
i dont pay money every month for sl to ban someone for ONE DAY for bringing a game down.
and ll is responcible. they dont have adequate security to stop these attacks. or an early warning system they wait for it to happen and then take the grid down, saying we are working to fix it. perma ban the F****rs mac address. then ring the police. and out in place a fix. even if it means getting your staff to work weekends.. lol i live in the uk. everywere is manned 24 hours. all our services have 24 hour manning. we pay for a 24 hour game, we expect 24 hour service..i expect compensation if something doesnt work.. even a few l would suffice..
as a way of apolising for the lack of security against these attacks.

Look, SL is not down because it "broke." Some asshat -- perhaps one of you -- deliberately did something that took it down. It's called a griefer attack. What part of that do you not understand? The Lindens want it back up as badly as any of you. For one thing, every minute that it's down, they have to listen to your griping, which would drive me to the point of homicide.

Be patient and it will be back up as soon as they finish getting things back in order. And if you REALLY want to do us all a favor, if someone knows whose alt did this, TURN THEM IN and let's fry the little bastard.

My reasoning is that the script attacks are an issue that the Lindens are trying to correct, but its not a quick fix. Its not something they can resolve lightly without imposing drastic security decisions that would make SL very unfriendly.

When an incident occurs its unfortunate, but downtime is expected in any type of vandelism...things have to be cleaned up to be made habitable again.

I tend to roll my eyes for demands for reimbursement because players can't play... shit happens, deal with it.

I really understand that people sometimes become crazy when a game/server is down, and also when we we pay to....can't play...

But we are lucky to have people like Torley Linden who tell us what's wrong, what they do (or trying to do), ...

We all know other game where when a problem appear, it take about 1 week to tell player that something goes wrong, 1 week without playing, 1 week to repair (till the next problem).

It's hard to stay there waiting for server up, but it's a game... and we know that all game have problem sometime.

I don't want compensation, I just want the person responsible to be publicly flogged from his skin, then drawn and quartered. Let's do some medieval justice!

in RL if you had to be temporaly evicted/downtime your land lord would have to give you a refund its only fair and it's the Law. OK I pay 200 USD , the Grid was down about 2 1/2 days this month. so i want a proRate for thos day's. SO, i nead my $16.60 USD credited to my account to stay a float. Its only fair!!!!

Also i was thinken about this the other day. If i got a sim to resell and was charged 200USD in tear fee's. Lets say i sold it the next day i would still be charged the tear fee of 200USD. and Lets say the kid I sold it to Resold it the next day also. SL would of made 2 months + of land fee's on the same SIM in 2 days. SL is makeing BANK off this and it wrong..

This is where ProRate realy would Help out Alot. SL calm down you make enuff

SO , i want my 16.60USD credited to my account no joke.. I nead that At leat

IF they wanted to be realy nice they could refund my lost profit ROFL

BUT FOR REAL I WANT MY $16.60 credited NOW in USD too NOT L

i'm assuming that this down time is caused by griefers in the first instance. i also read that the lindens are using the authorities to persue these people. if this is the case then the lindens should put a bill together including wages for their staff and recompence for downtime for the residents, and give it all to ME, or everybody who has been affected.

i tend to only use SL at the weekends find it really unforgivable that this downtime happens when i can be "out" meeting people. can the cleaning up not be left for during the week when residents are away struggling through thier RL jobs and moaning about that instead! if only!

Ok think of it this way....

If your computer got a virus.. would you demand compensation from Microsoft?

Should the owners of the former World Trade Center be held responsible for 9/11?

Would you blame the power company if you lost service after an earthquake?

Would you blame the phone company for a tree falling and knocking down the lines?

most of the outages have been due to outside influences. hackers who are trying to disrupt. ANY computer program is vunerable.

LL is doing the best they can, but like with a virus, until it comes out you can't find a way to defend against it.

There isn't any networked computer on the world fully protected against a DoS attack.
And the only easy way to protect against most DoS in SL is to remove LSL and disable all scripts. Nobody want that :)

SL gave us direct access to server's cpu ressource with LSL and item creation.
It's a pain to protect SL against this kind of attack.

Are we forgetting that this incident isn't LL's fault?

It's the asshat who sent out the self replicating gridcrasher that is the problem.

The only thing that I can think of is to limit free basic accounts, period. Impose severe restrictions on what they can do (basically start from 'cannot create or rez any objects outside of designated self contained sandboxes' and work backwards from there) but still allow the new player to enjoy what SL has to offer. Let's call this the "Bronze" account level.

Then, a $10 'lifetime account' fee if you really want to continue the basic free account system, which upgrades you to a "Silver" account.

Next, the "Gold" account, which is your current Premium account.

Finally, the "Platinum" account for those who own land over and above the free 512 sq m that "Gold" get. Basically today's premium plus Land.

What restrictions does that give? None of any consequence. If you're a brand new player, you just want to see what the game offers; so it shouldn't matter if you're limited. If you like the game, then you pay a one-off fee to 'upgrade' your account so you can enjoy everything yourself.

We have extra income for SL by people wanting to upgrade once they know they like it, freeloaders who pay nothing but take money out of the game can go whistle dixie (because you should be prepared to pay for entertainment like anywhere else, and if you can afford a broadband connection and a good enough PC to play SL, by damn you can afford a one off $10 fee if nothing else), and it gives you a chance to see how dedicated a player is to SL. After all, if you're spending more than $15 a month on your game then it does at least give the impression of having a certain amount of trust about you that can easily be identified over and above someone who has no investment (and presumably doesn't care) in making this world work.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for daring to suggest that the freeloaders should be cut - but I see that as a far smaller problem than griefers getting free accounts and crashing the grid week after week.

The first grid crash wasn't their fault.
The second either.
But we're now at about 6-7th grid crash (in the last 6-8 months), and it IS their fault that they did nothing to prevent it.

Yes, him too, but since he's risking nothing, he'll (or a similar person) will keep on coming back, again and again.

Yes, and I have proposed something similar in another thread, too. It might just work, and it shouldn't be THAT hard to implement.

I rarely POST. TODAY I feel I have HAD ENOUGH !!!

Okay .. Lets see what does an average programmer make 65K annual? How many programmers are hired by SL? Attacks are bad, however do we not have defense to counter these???? I do not know and would like to understand why this happens??

I pay over $125 a month now to enjoy my "little time" in Second LIFE. . I DEMAND we received a CREDIT THIS MONTH for all of this TIME DOWN !!

! Please Amend your customers, Linden Lab.!

Here are some ideas for you.

Quit whining
Quit complaining
Quit bitching
Quit paying LL
Quit SL
Quit
Quit
Quit

We need SL CSI's.... get Gil Grissom... Get Horatio... Get Sherlock for shit's sake.

(I love SL and will use any down time to think about what I'm going to do when I get back on SL)

Maybe all the down time is some sort of big conspiracy to get the 200,000 plus residents to live in the Real World for a bit and not get all pasty white and scary looking..... just a thought. Warmer weather..... increased down times..... I see a connection here.....

Keep on truckin LL... you're doing a great job!
