I know the Answers forum has been inundated with off-topic comments since the closing of General, and you guys have had a lot of work on your hands, with the password issues, etc, and I understand that;
But on the 14thI posted this question, which I have since found the answer to myself (the answer was, unfortunately, 'yes')
Myself and another resident have subsequently gone over the workaround (and the proof that it was changed) here, but the entire issue really just brings up the question again: (which does need a Linden answer) -- Are we going to be able to rely on this maximum level of detail? We really need it.
The ability to have it doesn't hurt anyone else. The defaults can stay the same for those who feel FPS is more important than visual characteristics.
However, I assure you, that for builders and modellers, this is not the case.
A summary of what's gone on:
In 1.10.2, we had a LOD reduction which, due to quite a bit of 'popular demand' and evidence shown in the forums, was reversed in 1.11, much to our relief.
There were many more resis than myself who thought this was a problem.
It seems that this reversal was undone in 1.12! We did find a workaround, but what we really need to know is, are we going to be able to continue to use this workaround into the future?
Is LOD going to be hard-limited? Every time LL lowers it, the residents do notice , and it's been reversed once already. We can do the XML-edit workaround, but level of detail is extremely important to the building and modelling process.
We need access to this higher detail. We had it prior to 1.10, had it taken away in 1.10.2, had it given back in 1.11, then we had it taken away again in 1.12.1.9; and we recently "took it back" with this XML edit.
If we could just get some answers from LL on this, perhaps in the Current Version Feature Feedback Forum, it'd be great.
