Hello,

I know I am basically saying the same than many people before me.. but none of them didn't yet get a reply, and it's a matter that is somewhat important to the people, as can be seen by looking on this vote, done via your own voting tool:

http://secondlife.com/vote/index.php?get_id=1503

As of now, 10:15 SL time, this proposal stands at:
Prop: 1503 1855 votes/247 voters
Name: Bring back identity verification for new registering accounts!!!!

This makes it number 2 on the ranking of total numbers of votes and, I think, number 12 already on the ranking of total residents having voted.
(Which we could fake, if we'd love to, by simply registering 100 alts each and pushing things. Which would only prove more than the current system is not doable.)

So, to make an example of what could be done (and I know I will get hate for making suggestions to griefers here):
- Make more than 50 alts. A sim can only ban 50. It means that you can always enter a sim, even if the ban list is full.
- Make 39 alts. Go to the town hall meeting. Wait for Philip to arrive. Raise a sign saying "Bad Idea!". Hilarious. ^.^ Thing is: Noone else could get in anymore. It'd be Phillip and 39 copies of me.

And, the best thing: Since I'd have given fake identity at registration and would have taken care to change my IP nicely so I can't be traced down, you could bad every single alt.. to be faced with double the amount an hour later.

So.. think about it.. is that really what you want? I don't think so. And most don't want it, which is shown by the vote I linked to above.

So, as this is a Ask Lindens forum, not a rant one, here comes the question:

What exactly do you plan to do to resolve the case?

Thanks,
Sheila!

Hi Sheila! We've heard numerous concerns like yours on SL Answers. You certainly aren't alone. Infact, I just answered:

/139/fe/115120/1.html
/139/3d/115001/1.html

and there are more dating back some days.

Within there are more links.

Now, as for what we're gonna do... several things. Insofar as griefing, 200 m ban height limit gets added tomorrow in 1.10.4. And the # of avatars that can be on a ban list, as you mentioned? That should be upped too.

One thing I should clarify is while registration is open, we still have abilities to link and ban accounts even if they change IPs.

Please also see Robin Linden's answer here:

I personally am a spirit inworld... I feel the pain when honest Residents get grieved and abused to crap. It really sucks.

As with many things in Second Life, time will continue to pass and we'll take action in turn, responding to the cries of the community. It's something we've gotten better at and hope to improve even more.

P.S. I gotta say that's one of the quickest-rising vote proposals I've ever seen. Some will wonder how many of those are alts, which of course, serves a point all its own.
