As of 6/6/06 people were allowed to sign up accounts with NO verification of age (aside from the honesty approach...LOL) for the main grid. Further more no real world information is required. Did LL even think about the ramifications of this? What was your reasoning? How can my lawyer (if I had one) go about getting contact information to persue legal action on a resident if LL does not have any information on that person?

Since the 6th we have seen some really interesting things happening. My friends and I have all noticed an interesting trend. Customers with birth dates after the 6th have been on the whole far more pushy, rude and immature (sounds like what happened when you removed the credit card verification the first time). We have seen evidence of people being more blantant in thier griefing and outright theft (I'm a manager for XX Store...sound familiar?) All of this has sprung up after you have removed any way of tracking these people down.

Just for clarification purposes here are my specific questions in bullet point format.
  1. What was LL's intention in allowing functionally annonymous signups?
  2. What is the purpose of the teen grid if you are going to wantonly allow teens into the main grid?
  3. Is there a check available to stop adults from entering the teen grid now? Or is entry to the teen grid the same as the main grid and are the teens there safe now?
  4. Does LL realize the effect on the community morale thier policy of non involvement is having?
  5. What steps are LL going to take to fix this problem before it impacts the community more?

I've talked about this situation in my blog, but here's the short version...

1. We opened up registration because we believe, that like the Internet, open and free registration will support the growth of diversity and innovation in Second Life in the best possible way.
2. We certainly aren't wantonly allowing teens into the main grid. Teens found in the main grid have their accounts immediately closed until they can either provide proof of age or we verify they are teens and they are moved to the teen grid.
3. Any adults found on the teen grid will be immediately and permanently banned from Second Life.
4. We certainly understand that your faith in the system has been shaken, and we want to make sure that we address that swiftly. Look for some improvements to account verification in the next release (discussed in more detail in my blog post).
5. Identify accounts that have been 'verified' by Linden Lab, improve controls to mute and deal with griefers, and longer term, implement a reputation system and additional identity verification that extends into the real world.
