Is there an update today? An email went out last week about one, but there's been no mention here in the forums.

Update Today?
06-28-2006 07:04
I have not seen an official announcement about an update today. I don't consider Linden's in any corporate capacity "talking about it in their semi-personal blogs" professional by any means or an appropriate way to announce a pending update to the Second Life service. Where are the version history notes?
I want to know more about what you plan on using to identify and what your will be collecting off my machine as far as information. Is this some sort of root kit? Does Linden Labs wanna go down in history by way of a certain music label corp? I for one do not appreciate this crass corporate secrecy when it comes to taking information off my system, without my knowledge of what it is. Not even Microsoft gets away with that anymore, it could be a breach of my privacy. That is a price I may not be willing to pay anyone for the inconsiderate decisions your company has made regarding this open registration process and should not penalize it's user base doing so. |

~LL and Giving Notice on Updates~
06-28-2006 08:55
Here we are down again on Wednesday but this time however we were not told about it until today. I actually thought there wouldn't be one since there was no announcement here on Friday, as I thought we were to be told about updates the week before they were to happen. I know that the forums were hacked, but that was apparently on Sunday. There was no login message in SL either to let people know about todays update because I checked last night.
Using the excuse that the forums were hacked and we couldn't be told about the update is unprofessional. We should have been told on Friday or even Saturday, or a login message should have been displayed or a message on the home page. There are plenty of avenues that could have been used to let us know about the downtime. I had plans set for today because I thought by some miracle we would not be inconvenienced yet again because I had not seen any indication that we would be down again. Are there going to be any credits to accts what with all the downtime we have had in the past few months? I urge you to let people know what is going on with the service we pay for. _____________________

Please consider staggering the days for scheduled updates. Rather than inconveniencing the same group of individuals week after after week with this standing appt., consider your citizens and their schedules as well as their relationships.
Yes, I'm sure there will be those who log on and realize that they are being affected by an update which they had not been informed of or thought they had not been informed of, but there will also be the same group of individuals out there who are affected every week, appreciative of the reprieve. Let anyone experinece a standing appointment of updates during their time in SL and you'll find unhappy citizens. But change that tactic and you'll find citizens much more tolerant of their one day a month or two, much easier to swallow. ![]() |

Noob Question - Updates
06-28-2006 10:35
So, obviously by the title I'm new around SL. Just today I noticed the trend of Wednesday updates (only two for me thus far) but I'm curious: are they really at the same time every Wednesday; regardless?
If so; why is that? Can the updates be staggered throughout the day on Wednesdays (as has been previously suggested)? 1st Wed of the month from XXam to XXam, 2nd Wed of the month from XXpm to XXpm, and so on and so forth? It'd be nice to know that on occasion during this time of the day on Wednesdays that I may have some hope of logging on before I go off into the RL. I'm just adding my "food for thought" along with some of the other residents. Thanks for the consideration. Kavik Brock |

Updates?

I fear wednesdays, after each update things seem to go worse and worse. I long for being back to 20 updates ago where there were less crashes, less lag, could see curves as curves and not like pointy objects (yes, I have updated my video card, yes I have more than the minimum requirements in my computer, yes, I have cleared my cache every day, yes to all over the counter remedies)
My question to Lindens is a simple one...... why not stop upgrading until you find a cure for lag? why not stop upgrading until you find a cure for unstable sims that swallow your feet and freeze you? why not stop upgrading until all your CUSTOMER (we are your customers) complaints are listened to and fixed? I don't want a new inventory format but would love to be able to walk without hitting because lag is so strong it holds me and then push me around. I don't want to know if my neighbor is paying with credit card or has a free account but would love to be online on wednesdays if that is when I have time or feel like. I really don't care about many of the "improvements" made recently but would like to be able to play a match of slingo without seeing that blue window that informs me I'll be logged out in 45/30/15 seconds because you're restarting a region. Further more, I would give up many things if that meant I could be in a place dancing without a "newbie" coming and bombing and messing up our inventories or being shopping somewhere and had somebody trying out their new bought guns on you! Don't you think we have enough issues to fix without adding new ones with all your updates??? When are those issues being solved if you are bringing new ones each wednesday? I know the common answer, you're trying to make sl a better experience but you're acting like Snow White's Dwarfs, you're sweeping the dust under the carpet and not cleaning really. Sorry about all this, but I'm afraid of what letting those "terrorist" know we have a valid credit card will bring to all of us that pay for being in sl. One last question... Have you ever thought of having surveys with people asking what they would think of changes you're planning??? Just remember, we're the ones that make sl, without us you'd only have an empty server space. You should consider residents opinions before releasing information about us. |

Unannounced changes and updates
06-28-2006 12:44
Ok. Now I've understand is as usual practice of Lindes to make unannounced (and sometimes not requested) updated and changes.
1. Ban lines raising 2. Unalerted updates (yes, forum was closed, but there is enough time to post a little announcement about new update) 3. New great (?) feature about land types Ignoring the last (I can test, so, I trust your about the importance of this new feature, hoping dont cause other bugs), first two made only trobules for a best part of people. 1. We cant fly around, but yes, now you will change this feature... after causing troubles. 2. This not unannounced update, caused login troubles for a lot of people (me too). I've to interviews a lot of peopl for hiring. Maybe I've lost these people, or I need to plan a new appointment (hard for me, living in Italy and having to talk with a lot of people live in US or Asia), causing bothering to me and to applicants. And I need to open a club this week-end... I've a lot of tasks must be closed before friday! With a little forewarning, I will had enough time to shift my tasks, to organize me better... but ... I'm only one of thousand of people in SL. I'm not so important... also my moneys I spend for Lindens, land, club and staff, are not so important... Oh, of course, as usual, all updates are made ALWAYS in comfortable hours... but for american people... Thank you very much, Lindens. Tomorrow morning (morning for me, of course, I will work in SL from the Office (in rl) to close mi tasks... well, if SL will go up) |

Hi guys! I'll touch on a few common Resident concerns I've heard here and inworld:
* We're increasingly gravitating towards Linden blogging. The reasons are severalfold, but essentially, it comes up to better communication, which we can never have enough of. I'm currently dealing with a Repetitive Stress Injury in my hands, so it's been a personal as well as a professional concern to communicate more effectively and efficiently, despite this handicap. PLEASE bookmark, and if you do RSS feeds, aggregate Robin Linden's Be The Change. *Official* policy and insights are posted here: This will become more and more important! Would not want any of you to miss out, you're our valued Residents. * ALSO! Re: staggered upgrade days, popular past question. Please see Karen Linden's posts here: * PLEASE also subscribe to our software updates mailing list so you'll automatically be notified: * There were forum announcements about today's 1.10.5 (1) update but sadly, they were nuked in the forum problems. :\ Sorry about that--I should have seen to it that NEW, fresh ones were posted. Many, many apologies. * As for "lag", if there's a specific, reproducible problem, please provide details to Support and we can help you out much better. Also see: Lee on Lag. Your feedback helps us to improve--and has infact given me some new ideas along a given thoughtline. There's a lot of change happening, so many things to do, but I want to help keep each of you in the loop! _____________________
