From: Pix Paz Dmitri - I think this forum has sunk into madness because:
1. The majority of posters have run out of useful things to say. Once you have said things a few times, for most, you decide not to try and explain yourself again.
2. Nothing gets resolved.
3. Posters have little power to do anything to actively change things except whinge.
4. So it ends up that all you have left is the sniping.
Come for the intelligent economic discussion, but stay for the back-biting!
BTW - baiting RBD in your own "let's have some intelligent conversation" thread seems a bit couter-intuitive. Well, even a preacher is temped to curse if they hit thier thmb with a hammer. No one's perfect.LOL

Dimitri-
See what happens? Voice an idea or suggestion that has a few merits and lacks a few good easy targets to trash and you get silence in response.
Sum it up in a quick, funny, one-liner and move on, it's the "in" thing.

Personally, I'd like to hear from the those who do agree and see them expand ideas, rather than do the "in" thing and just be part of the flock. Having fun on a forum is certainly part of posting, and I certainly don't begrudge anyone their fun, but having your fun by trolling/flaming is just flat out wrong. It needs to stop. If someone can't disagree without using trolling/flaming tactics, then they don't need to reply at all. Three things should apply to forums at all times. 1) Treat others they way you want to be treated, 2) If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all and 3) Don't post in anger or to ridicule. I realize it isn't always easy to stay within the bounds of those three things, but, if more people made the effort to, we would all be better off. And if you really must say something mean then do it in a private message. If the person you are sending to has PMs turned off then you are just out of luck. Or you could always im them inworld. Which is exactly what the resmods and Torley keep telling us to do.

From: Selene Gregoire That is tantamount to saying most people on the boards are either here only to troll/flame or they agree. "Tantamount" What a great word! =) Actually I think most folks just skim without reading too deeply unless there's something in the thread that kindles strong interest. Without something to contribute or critique in a relevant way it seems most folks just kinda move on silently... or if an opening comes up, they toss in a humerous annecdote. I'm fine with that... (I'd have to be, as I'm guilty of it sometimes) do it myself sometimes. I do try to include something in each post that's relevant to the current thread though just to try to prevent things from going too far afield. I agree with you on trolling/flaming (who wouldn't?! . Attacking someone's character instead of the points they raise just seem like a lazy... or desperate... way to object to a point and derail a thread. It leaves the issues ignored and forgotten instead of addressing them. Personally I think the original poster should have rez-mod level permissions on their own thread. If someone kicks off a red-herring they should be able to transfer those posts to a 'red-herring' area. I don't mind someone harshly telling me I'm wrong... but without backing it up with logic and reason they might as well be grunting and howling. Too often I let myself get baited into responding in kind... I figure if that's the kind of language trolls comprehend best, then it's the only way to get through to them. (for which I'll do penance some day I'm sure) (thank you for speaking up instead of silently passing by! =)) -- Jopsy
