ll should create a way for all those people who are concerned about the stipend to give up their stipend.

either let them destroy their stipend when they get it. or set an option in their preferences so they will stop receiving their stipend.

this is a good and easy place to start, since these people will do so voluntarily.

after seeing this principled stand... people follow this example in droves.

IF you are all that concerned, give it to charity. There are enough people now out there asking for money for various reasons. Don't just talk about it, become an example and do it.

No need to wait for LL to implement this as a feature!

Yes, I would definitely love to see these folks put their welfare where their mouths are.

Hopefully some of those you mention here will post to this thread and let us know the in-world coordinates for their Off the Dole object so we can marvel at their capitalistic piety.

Looks great, but I think this needs to be changed:
CODE

key GOVERNOR_LINDEN = "3d6181b0-6a4b-97ef-18d8-722652995cf1";

Here, lemme go look up *my* key...

Wait why did my name come up? I don't care about my stipend that much but money is money, I don't care about the SL economy much. I wouldn't care about my stipend simply because I make money playing poker/pizza/greedy in SL and have been living off that for the last couple years I've been in SL.

Use the money sinks...

If you really want to remove your stipend from the economy, another way is to spend it on money sinks. For instance, you could take out an L$500 classified every week, or go out and give rating points to a bunch of newbies.

omg...i made a list that includes RBD!!! :)

Anywayyyyssss...

I would be more than willing to give up my stipend if it would make a real and visible difference in strengthening the Linden. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that just me giving up my stipend isn't going to make the least bit of difference.

So my proposal is...

If you and/or enough people give theirs up to the extent that it will reflect a guaranteed strengthening of the Linden, you can count me in.

I have said it before and I'll say it again...

...my only interest in this dogfight is a strong linden and a healthy SL economy. If this can be accomplished by other means other than eliminating the $L50 basic stipend (Lets be clear, I am not advocating the elimination of all stipends), then I'd be all for that too.

But no one is offering any alternatives other than to scream and yell in their opposition to my my suggestion of the elimination of basic stipends. Which to me seems a bit selfish and unreasonable when taking into consideration that basic members are not paying anything to live in this world in the first place. Besides, it's only $L50 loss for any one individual, but which when added up among the thousands of basic accounts should make a real difference.

So, I'm throwing it back at you...

Sure, I'll give mine up, now who else is willing to do so to the extent that it will strengthen the linden and promote a healthier SL for everyone?

What I mean is I'm willing to try to the extent we have enough people to at least make it a viable possibility. Obviously, ten people would be a waste of time, wouldn't it?

But you aren't even willing to do that, are you?

No, of course not lol.

Oh, I'd pay a blue cent. They've not given me any though. I bet it's because I'm not FIC.

Your comments presume that getting rid of the $50 stipend would strengthen the economy in the first place. Which I doubt it would, even if it didn't affect the population number at all.

It's likely, though, that fewer basics would hang around, to buy things, or to buy Lindens, or to become premiums, and the population, retention rate, and commerce would all suffer as a result. Which would mean that the value of the Linden would suffer as a result.

Then again, take away enough stuff, and nobody will bother logging on at all, then there will be 1500 people here all making stuff and trying to sell it to each other. But by damn, the Linden will be stable!

I don't know why people seem to think it is all just a simple matter of subtracting a dollar figure on a ledger.

It's only $L50 a week (.15 cents).

Not that serious.

Then again, I'm not so sure anymore lol.

Well, yes, that's exactly what I'm saying! But that drop in the bucket is enough to give new players something to do, and give them a taste for wanting more.

It's one of the ease-of-use features of the Premium membership -- LL converts my US membership fee to Lindens for my use inworld. It's a currency conversion service that is part of the Premium package, which I pay for... the stipend that Basic members receive, however, is basically a "welfare check" while they look around SL and see if they want to upgrade. If they don't want to bother upgrading, they should bail and quit sucking resources from the rest of the members who _pay_ to use them.

It sure is entertaining to watch people make threats that
all of SL will crash and crumble and nobody will return if
X is done or Y is done.

Believe me, "You and your like minded friends" might not
come back (So Long). But you'll be replaced with a new crew
of folks who adjust and adapt to the changes. And the train
keeps on moving just fine without you. Don't let the door hit
you on the way out.

So feed on your own threats, because the only person going
bye bye will be you.

Have you not been doing the same thing with all of your, "Remove the stipend or the linden will continue to drop and people will stop playing" threads?

You are confused.. I've never once mentioned anything
about people leaving SL because of decline in the L$...
I've been talking about the economic collapse if changes
aren't made.. What happens after that isn't my problem..
If folks leave, so long... One less person fussing about
keeping the status quo. Then maybe we can finally get
some true economic reform going around here...

So shape up Slick, you've been listening to Siggy's
gibberish much too long.. Time to think for yourself.

I'm not making threats, nor would I be going anywhere. I said I would consider downgrading to basic. I can still make my things and sell them. The shop is a wonderful thing to have, but I don't have to have it.

And yes, I know that people can come into a whole new thing and adjust. But in my opinion, removing the stipends have a severely negative impact on the growth rate, which right now is one of the best things SL has going for it (and for its investors), and would cause considerable tiering down to basic by premiums (which wouldn't be good for LL).

If you don't care if people leave because of removing the stipends, and if you don't care if people leave because of the economic collapse that you predict will happen if the stipends aren't removed, then I believe I am correct in concluding that you don't care if people leave, period.

If you don't care about people leaving LL, or, I assume, people continuing to pay tier to LL, then I must conclude that what you care about is cashing out your Lindens for the most dollars.
