From: Jauani Wu what exactly does this entail? LL setting up an easy to use payment system for all the currency exchanges making percentages on trades, all the while removing risk from the latter? why didn't the currency exchange develop a system for themselves to compete with IGE. why should LL create a a tailor made system to benefit GOM over IGE? *sigh* We had suggested (and provided a detailed overview of specifications, etc.) a robust API by which *any* currency exchanging service could link into SL. Us, Anshe, IGE, whoever. We've never asked them to tailor a system to be used by us alone.

From: Ricky Zamboni *sigh* We had suggested (and provided a detailed overview of specifications, etc.) a robust API by which *any* currency exchanging service could link into SL. Us, Anshe, IGE, whoever. We've never asked them to tailor a system to be used by us alone. ricky, my understanding is that currently IGE is much easier to use than GOM. I have only used either as a L$ seller in which regard i found them to be very similar. LL is building a system that will make it much easier and accessible for anyone to buy or sell L$. not only will all new players immediately see this option, but they will be able to use it with their credit card. this was not possible with GOM. why should GOM or anyone expect LL to set up a system for them to run a currency exchange and take on the risk of fraud for them? and what of the increased service fees that would be necessary for consumers dealing now dealing with two companies? the system could be used by anyone, as you state, but currently IGE benefits from the lack of any system at all, where as if the system was deployed as you asked, GOM would benefit over IGE. i say the system would be tailored for GOM because it would make IGE obsolete. this is not some revolutionary unexpected idea. since GOM entered second life's market players have wondered how cool it would be to trade directly from SL, and to be able to access a much larger market. it's a tough reality, i sympathize. we all got to see the ruthless business side of LL, which is a character of any succesful business. i don't understand on what grounds you can expect LL to alter their service to satisfy a now unnecessary third party. why doesn't gom respond by working with what is provided and offering services on gom that LL can not?

From: Mex Thorn I dont know why Lindens wanna ruin it for businesses like GOM and IGE. There will be nowhere for anyone to trade L$ for USD for the prices they want and without all this extra BS that LL wants to do. With the way money has been, its been shifting all over. I think they want to make a system something like There where you can buy money within the game but they dont want any involvement, so it looks. But to me it looks like they want to take the ecnomy more into they're hands. With the increase of the cost to rate which was supposed to balance the ecnomy and made a few things crazy. Now they want to mess with it even more. Soon L$ wont mean anything and just be a number. What do you think? What makes you think IGE will be hurt in the least. Has GOM hurt IGE, or given them a playground to push the market around? The fact that GOM has closed down makes me think a Linden Labs run currency exchange is much more important. I'd rather the existance of the currency exchange be tied to the existance of Second Life, rather than hoping that people like GOM don't have problems like fraud and technical errors that force them to close shop.

From: Strawbearry Shortbread Yeah, Strawbearry is my alt. I had her in here last night because she managed to find and buy First Land next door to my shop! YAYAYAYAYAYAY! I guess somebody - one person - abandoned their land or something. Wanted to make sure it went through.
coco
P.S. She was supposed to be "Strawbeary" with one R, but I messed up making her and quit the process at some point where somehow the name you were working with is now taken forever. They should fix that. Wow gaming the first land. I guess you are in the Land Baron training program now. Congrats

From: Eboni Khan Wow gaming the first land. I guess you are in the Land Baron training program now. Congrats I thought she meant that someone who owned first land next door to her shop had set it for sale. Jauani, they've released loads of fabulous features. The first paragraph explains that they talk us in circles around the ones that would decentralize the world the same way politicians promise to support opposing viewpoints before the election. While the incomplete list is pretty long, I didn't mean to imply that this applied to every single feature ever conceived. The second paragraph is an example of the point. Fully implemented XML/RPC was necessary for the linden-based financial market to become truly diverse and competitive as long as it was operated by users. But fully implemented XML/RPC is one of those features that has gotten a lot of lip service with no (that's harsh, I mean to say NOOOOO) intention of implementation. It would place too much ability to interface with web-based programs in the hands of the residents. People would be spending inworld time doing stuff on the web. It would spoil LF's immersion. It might be used for griefing purposes. It will never happen. But, the linden-based financial market must mature. We all need for that to happen. If that can't be done by the users, because the feature they need to do it will never be implemented, then LL must do it themselves.

From: Khamon Fate I thought she meant that someone who owned first land next door to her shop had set it for sale. If that was the case, she wouldn't need a newbie alt to buy it, she could just buy it. Funny how the tables turn, when she was looking for first land she was outraged that anyonw would game the first land system with an alt, now that it benefits her, its all well and good. Hypocracy yet again.
