has anyone contacted whatever person this thread was started about to see if they're aware their land is for sale? if they put that high price on it in case it accidentally got set for sale this might be a case where the protective measures worked as planned and their land got accidentally set for sale without them knowing.

There used to be, and there probably will be again.

I have my plot set both to 9999999999 and set to only sell to myself. The sale checkbox is not marked, but on the off chance that it ever is, I'll still have two levels of protection.

I agree wholeheartedly with Moleculor. I would encourage landowners to do this, thus avoiding the 'someone stole my land because ...' refrains.

Now if he was only a molecule instead of a moleculo!

Most the parcels I saw ages ago with that on them were mainly clubs , stores, and malls - so I always assumed it was some kind of advertising tactic...

I can see how it would work to protect you from selling your land accidentally though..

Siggy.

We really could use a a more robust map. It's been suggested before and i'm sure it will continue to be a request until the Lindens can find a way to make it work

We need a sort of Master Window that incorporates both the Map and the Find window. In short, only your query for land with certain characteristics would show up on the map. All other land for sale will not be highlighted if it doesn't fit your criteria.

broaden this to include objects, people, events and places and you can see how this would be a great way to do things. GIS for the Second Life

I'm looking on the land sales map for places that look interesting. I see a white highlighted area on the map, fly to it - and it's something someone's put up for L$999999999. Can't this be stopped? It's a rather irritating practice and wastes mine and everyone else's time.

Well...I was told by LIVE HELP in order to protect myself...so that I would not accidently hit the LAND RELEASE button....to set the land high...and sell it to myself. That way if I accidently hit the RELEASE button....it would go back to me and I would not loose it. So I did it...perhaps these people did the same thing??

Nope, Sophie. "Those people" then did NOT UNCHECK the Sell for $L box. Better check your land ASAP because Live Help should have told you THAT too.
