I'm going to have a little fun here and make a prediction for the next few weeks. If I'm wrong, oh well only time will tell if I'm right or not. Looking at the Lindex and whats been happening lately, I would definitely buy now.

I think I'm seeing the same thing you are, mcgeeb. I could easily see a jump to the mid 270s or even the high 260s within a week or two. I don't know if I would buy for speculation purposes, but if I were going to sell anytime soon, I wouldn't sell it for 280 per $ or more.

My recommendation is hold.

My most current economic analasys agrees with you:

this week: The risk takers may want to BUY, others should HOLD!

this month: Too complicated to tell right now. The risk takers may want to HOLD, others should SELL!

this year: unless some fundamental change occurs, the long-term trend will continue to be DOWN once we are past the (I think) comming rise! The long term move is SELL!

Of course, the best move for all timeframes may be to quit riding this economic roller coaster and INVEST extra linden dollars into the growth and stability of the Second Life economy. I'm pleased to be able to report that Second Life Solutions has two new investment options in the pipeline. These options will be less risky and should be more appealing to those who are a bit too risk-averse to take the plunge into virtual equity trading in its infancy.

I'm looking forward to showcasing these exciting new investment opportunities at Second Life Solutions! It is my true hope that they can grow in size to a level where they will do their part to help to generate stability in our virtual economy! More news soon! :)

I predict that I have no idea what the $L will do.

Do not listen to me because I have no special insights.

I have a faint guess that the $L isn't sliding as much due to the collapse of referral farming, but I could be dead wrong.

Sure I can make a few $L with my business, but the complexities of the economy here are not specially channeled to me.

Unlike many other economists, I realise this...

It will fluctuate

Call me crazy, but my prediction is that it will fluctuate.

There, I've stuck my neck out ... see if you can prove me wrong.

I'm also looking forward to decloaking several more equally astonishing predictions that are in the pipeline ... very soon.

This is a little vague, so it would be difficult to prove wrong. Could you be more specific? :)

Good thinking... Get the suckers to buy while your selling at a higher price than L$282.

I wonder if we'll start seeing trading in the 279 or lower range soon. I'm rather surprised that 5,000,000 Lindens sold so fast the past two days. The next biggest group of orders is at 274 with over 1,000,000 Lindens. Will we see another big sell off of Lindens now that it might get better for selling? Maybe this time the buyers will start panicking and start posts "OMG the price to buy lindens is going to skyrocket now"

Yeah me too. When I saw the 5 million at 280, I thought for sure it would be moving up, but the market absorbed that rather fast. I should have stuck to my guns. With that big lump gone at 280, the next roadblock is 274. Without another huge new sell order, it's definitely going to hit 275 by Monday morning.

I'm just waiting for someone to see the better price and put a large amount of lindens up for sale. Yet, it sure would be nice to see the price better for the sellers and content creators who need to pay their tier in dollars and not lindens.

I will copy&paste this to here by march 2nd(+-1 week)(maybe earlier)
Edit:
Within next week we will see 280->278->280 <- 02.02 - 02.09
after one week : 280(+-2)->276(+-2)->278(+-2) <- 02.09 - 02.16
2 weeks : 278(+-2)->279(+-2)->277(+-2) <- 02.16 - 02.23
3 weeks : 277(+-2)->272(+-2)->275(+-2) <- 02.23 - 03.02
4 weeks : 275(+-2)-> 271(+-2) -> 272(+-2) <- 03.02 - 03.09
5 weeks : 272(+-2)->268(+-2)->270(+-2)<- 03.09 - 03.16
Will be like this.

Yes 278 looks very promising. It looks like the policies in place seem favorable now.

Sell lower (aka higher value) people! lets bring it down to 250 by the end of the month! :D

the fewer barriers there are to people buying $L the more people will, more often.

Rising buy nibbling will continue to drive the price up for the forseeable future.

Several people with specific interests in low values due to some rather misguided short-selling will continue to try and sink the value, but the overwhelming nibblers of all those basic accounts wanting to buy things, are going to win out in the near term.

since the gaming of new account referrals has ended it leveled off, since the introduction of in world buy its been nibbled down, consistantly. The one 'bump' is a transitory someone throwing away about $300 being an idiot thing.

Wait! Should we be panicking?

Back to 282...oh well. Maybe someone can explain that and the not so random sells at like 330 - 2000L $ for 1 usd that seems to happen everyday?

The idea it was a typo, I think is wrong.

Meh.

If you watch the rhythms of the market, you see that a lot of sell orders are placed in the morning and a lot of buying takes place in the evening (and on the weekend). So... it's not surprising to see a bounce on Monday morning after the weekend buying slows down and the Monday morning orders are placed. By midnight tonight, buyers will likely eat up the sell orders until it reaches maybe 279 or even 278. Then tomorrow morning a bunch more sell orders will be put up again. The daily fluctuations are not very relevant in the medium term.

What is important is that there is far fewer lindens listed for sale at or above 270 than there was a week ago (at this time on Monday) and a whole lot less available for sale at 280 or above (I've been keeping track). The linden is experiencing a little bounce back into the 270 range where it may stabalize for a few weeks or longer.

As for people posting sell orders at 330 or 2000 or whatever. The people profiting from this are the ones lucky enough to buy lindens at that price, not the ones placing the order. BTW, I can't believe the unfortunate person who put up nearly 100,000 lindens for sale at 2800 per linden was trying to manipulate the market. If they were, they are incredibly stupid and I hope they do it again when I'm checking the exchange.

Accountability is good, which is what money can supply by providing a numerical measurement of value. Holding people accountable via money is a rational self interest activity.

Greed, however, is excessive desire to acquire or possess more (especially more material wealth) than one needs or deserves (thank you websters).

In otherwords, a destructive impulse which is merely a manifestation of short-term instinctive impulses.

I think people who invest money wisely should be given control over all the world's wealth, and those who merely want to buy expensive toys should be, IMO, put in prison.
