Evidence for either of these initial assertions please?

(somewhat off topic... but I'll take a try at answering)

This topic is 3 months stale.... Since then LL has announced that they might start minting L$ for sale directly via the LindeX, which would strengthen Merlyn's point.

The way I see it though:

Buying sims is not a L$ sink, (though some folks think it should be.)

Buying "new land" with doesn't create a demand for L$ because the USDs go straight into LL's pockets.

The desire to buy pre-owned land does create a demand for L$'s, but the surplus of new land keeps land prices from strengthening.

(Land is consistantly one of the most expensive and valuable things within SecondLife and land/L$ transactions make up a non-trivial percentage of each day's lindex volumes)

If land were more scarce and/or more expensive however... fewer people would be buying land, resulting in, reducing demand for L$ to some degree.

Anyway. Just some 'civil' pre-coffee off-topic rambling. :)
