4 of the sim in the new Otherland Archepelago are void sims. They're going to make for neat island chains.

Okay... maybe I'm just dense today... but I don't get it :|
So... Otherland (I LOVE the name BTW... Otherland suits SL so much more than Snow Crash as a series this place is based on...) has bought some of these 'Openspaces' sims, which come in 4-packs, and selling them out for slightly more than 1/4 of the price of 4? Are there other groups that do this? As for the Openspaces... these are the SAME as void sims? Are all 4 on the same CPU, or is it a mishmash like regular sims? Are they actual islands, or just islands connected to other islands? If you bought some for yourself, would you already have to have a private island and/or sim? |

Does anyone have any information regarding the possibility new of low-prim low-cost sims? http://www.otherland-group.com/pricing/prices_elbow.html Judging by that, they are already being sold... apparently only if you know the right people? They're for those people who want to provide lots of open space and low-usage - they're not for building houses or clubs or businesses, but for things like recreation -- boating, hangliding, whatever. _____________________

With a Prim limit of just over 1800 thats one helluva Hanglider ![]() I must admit that the restrictions on not building a house puzzles me. Clubs and businesses yes - too many scripts - but so long as there are very few or no scripts in a house, then I don't understand why we are advised not to build one.. ![]() All answers on a postcard please... ![]() _____________________

I still need my other questions answered too ![]() |

As THE OTHERLAND GROUP is actually renting out this kind of sim currently, let me state our official policy on this topic:
Before we started renting them, I expressly asked Linden Concierge, if this would be OK and I got an agreement on that. This policy might have changed. Things like that happen. If there is a new policy regarding those sims or should customers experience an overly amount of lag and crashes I will offer full refunds to customers who already rented, of course. Additionally I put all further sales on hold for the time being. Our experiences with these sims - which we clearly state a slow prim and point out these limitations to every customer in every talk - so far has been very satisfactory; as long as you stay within the stated limits. We will carefully observe the performance of these sims with real customers using them. As I said: I will accept any official Linden policy regarding these sims. I still would love the possibility to use them as (low prim) residential areas. I do not only love them from a business point of view alone. I love them because they might give us a chance to develop some wide open residential areas for all those who do not want to live in crowded areas. If I just want a large area and I do not need much prims (I am such a type ![]() ![]() If Linden Lab puts out this kind of sim in larger quantities - for voids AND for residential use, this might be a much bigger change to the world of Second Life then flexi prims. It would change the landscape forever - and in a very positive way. ![]() Currently land is very inflexible: - if you need a high primload you have to buy a lot of land - if you want a large area, you have to buy a lot of prim capacity Peoples needs are different. Some want many prims on a small area (which is possible to a certain degree on private sims) and some want a large area on which they want to live in a tent. ![]() These new sims make it possible for the first time to fullfil the needs of that second guy! And if they were to be deployed on a larger scale, they surely would make Second Life more beautiful! Currently, most areas of Second Life are urban or sub-urban in the density of their settlement. These new sims would make it possible and cost effective for the first time to have a true (nearly) undisturbed landscape. Thats why I would like to see more of them on the mainland, too. What a wonderful dream! ![]() |

If you bought some for yourself, would you already have to have a private island and/or sim? According to what Concierge told us, you can only acquire this kind of sims, when you connect them to classic sims. Thats what we do and what makes sense! They are only sold in bundles of 4 because they basically run all on the same CPU. And you can't devide a CPU. p.s.: Its is easy to forget with all the ballyhoo about this new type of sim, but we also have beautiful land - some of the most beautiful residential land in SL actually to rent on "classic sims"! ![]() |
