I'd like to answer the questions... I don't think this is a dumb idea at all, and I would encourage you to go do it despite the drivel in this forum. Thank you, Buster. And what a nice positive addition you are to the forums. Some of the questions you mention are already part of the survey, which at this point is very brief in order not to over-burden vendors or interns. If it goes at all well, I plan to implement more surveys in future and more comprehensive ones, including a consumer survey. I'm fascinated by the question of how virtual economies work, but I feel that there's hard data needed in order to really get into the nuts and bolts of that. This kind of thing will only reveal the tip of the iceberg. Getting input like yours above (and yours too, Prok, ttytt) is very valuable to me in trying to figure out how to chip away at the problem, even in little ways. _____________________

I'd be very interested in what data you can gather from this survey. I think one big challenge is how to get a representative sample of the population. Depending on your methodology, you might have a pretty skewed data. Distributing a survey to firends and acquaintances is obviouisly going to be skewed, but even if you had people sampling every sim, depending on time of day, you will miss some significant segment of the population (e.g. the Europeans might not be on during the time you do your survey).
Nevertheless even skewed data might prove enlightening. I just hope you will publish your survey methodology along witht eh survey results. Good luck. As for the type of questions, I'm particularly interested in the services industry: have people recently hired someone for a specific job? Did they hire a scripter, builder, escort, event host, DJ, personal shopper, writer, photographer, ad agency etc.; how much did they pay them for? |

Walker, this isn't going to happen.
If you really want to get business survey informatin, you're going to have to get it yourself. - check completed auctions - do random samples in world of land, the price it sells at, and when its sold (by checking back) - interview people in world randomly and find out what they have purchased - sample a collection of stores and determine from there what is being sold, how it's being sold, and what people are buying Asking for people to hand you this information on a platter is just not going to happen. Like we're talking 0% probability. Well, no, I take that back. Someone who's earning very little (couple 100 per month) might tell you. But what he tells you will completely skew the reality of the situation. _____________________

Heh heh.. Nolan's great when you need a thread bump. It wasn't a bump. It was a brief statement pointing out the ridiculous irony in Prokofy's statement. Thanks, come again. You can color it for whatever suits your needs blaze, I am used to your misuse of what others say. It's apparently a game you like to play. By the way, I am sorry that your threads and post need bumps. Perhaps if you stopped acting like a know-it-all, and stopped regurgitating the same old shit for weeks and months (see 90% of Prokofy Parvenu the savior of TSO/SL and all he/she surveys), you would be taken seriously enough so that you wouldn't need to be bumped. Oh, and Prokofy, I think I will stick with Prokofy, or pot, or maybe yellow journalist. I only use diminutives for those I am endeared to, not freakishly obsessed crusaders who drag their RL baggage with them everywhere they go. _____________________

Having seen the survey in world, I discarded it as soon as I received it. Notice the non-committal "I am not planning on publishing..." statement. Anyone who would give confidential sales information to someone who doesn't even guarantee its privacy honestly deserves to have that information misused. Walker, if you are sincerely interested in this information, you should have had an anonymous survey that could have been taken on your site by invite. As it stands, having brand new players in SL sending out requests for confidential information, including asking for exact sales figures is just an excercise in futility, as I doubt most people would give up that info.

It's not just me. I reacted like this immediately, but it took Cristiano awhile to come and say basically the same thing. And blaze is saying the same thing. And 100 other people in business will say the same thing, and it only proves me right. So all this sniping and hacking and slashing at me is needless because I am only saying what others think. Nolan *cough* talk about people with RL baggage! May I remind you that attacking people on the basis of your perceiption of their sexual orientation is a TOS violation. _____________________

I would think your description is more appropriate for your behaviour invading threads when you have nothing to say, merely to harass me. What on earth is your problem, I don't even know you LOL. Go away.
Walker, what's going to happen now is that all these girls who hate me, and who also dislike blaze and maybe even Cristiano will now all fall all overthemselves to tell you their sales information just to spite me/them. "Hi, hon, I sold 3 prs of high heels this week WOOOOT". So get your pencils sharpened LOL. _____________________

Go away. It is really quite simple. I read the forums. I enjoy them. I can't seem to get to a single thread since you showed up without seeing you demean somebody. Er, what you don't get is that from the outset, I have pushed back against all those know-it-all fucktards who have tried to demean me. They don't like it when that happens. They get to see how it feels. You invade even a classified ad and try to harm someone's business, you are so lacking in a life. Geez, find something better to do with your time.

May I remind you that attacking people on the basis of your perceiption of their sexual orientation is a TOS violation. I don't know your gender, nor your sexual orientation, therefore, as usual, you are talking out your ass. (People of all sexual orientations have assholes, some have even trained theirs to talk). You are a fine one to talk about *attacking* people. You routinely and systematically categorize, assail, and talk down to a vast number of people. It's a shame, because you seem reasonably intelligent. It's unfortunate that you waste it on sour grapes, ghost stories, and finger pointing. I bring no RL baggage to SL. I don't despise and distrust all who came before me because of my past experiences with real world government. Maybe I should've assumed your religious views and history (what journalistic integrity!), or where you live in RL and then used that as some sort of basis for pigeon-holing you. Or maybe I should ask you a question, then when you answer, I will call you "son". You are the worst type of malignance on the net. I wonder what MMOE is next on your hit list? You failed miserably trying to take down TSO, and you're going to fail miserably here too. Take your vision of perestroika somewhere else. Anyone who would like to know what Prokofy is really all about should google Dyerbrook Parvenu. I did, and it was VERY enlightening. Maybe we will get lucky and Prokofy will impersonate Phillip sometime in the future. _____________________

Please Take All Personal Attacks To Another Thread

PLEASE TAKE ALL PERSONAL ATTACKS TO ANOTHER THREAD.
Cris, I hear you on the "not planning to publish" wording, but unfortunately, that wording was not mine. The word "planning" does not appear in the notecard I handed out to survey-takers. What that notecard does say is: (of information like name and location of shop and name of owner ![]() (of how to conduct the survey ![]() (caps were included in the original notecard) Sorry for the confusion on that. As to having newbies do the heavy lifting, I certainly don't have time to fly around the grid doing this, and I doubt I could find any one person who'd be willing to spend the amount of time it would take to get even a small sample done in a reasonable amount of time. Personally, I don't see why people are so protective of their sales information. I think most of us here believe that the free flow of information is of benefit to society, whether it be in RL or SL. Wouldn't SL be a better place is LL handed out more information on just how the place works? So why wouldn't it be a better place if we shared that information together? I don't think it's a zero-sum game, where one person wins only at the expense of another. If that's the case, it can't hurt to share a little information. And really, I'm not interested in anyone's assessment of whether the project will work or not. It might work, it might not. If you're interested in helping make it work, by all means contribute some ideas here. If you're posting about why it's a lost cause, it sounds to me like you don't want the project to work. If that's the case, I'd rather not hear from you. And I'll repeat my earlier request: PLEASE TAKE ALL PERSONAL ATTACKS TO ANOTHER THREAD. _____________________

Walker, these are public attacks, not personal attacks! ![]() Naw, anytime people disagree and talk about it, some folks will call it "personal attacks". Even those who allow their newsites to be used as a vehicle for long, actual personal attacks. Whatever brings in the hits. Same thing with the folks who have "troll" on the tip of their tongue all the time. I am so tired of overused and misused jargon. Walker, you chose to bring Prokofy on board, therefore he/she is your cross to bear. _____________________
