For months I've discussed and coded my backend, talked with friends about my system, talked with whomever needed about various sub-systems, I feel my system is ready to begin operation.
So, to be fair, and friendly, I am asking for land owners to please volunteer land to my efforts: I already have land in several sims that will be used for this, and I will present an initial list of scan points in a matter of hours. My mappers are used for gathering of map data, and this is the initial "seed" run, also this will be the run to watch for those major problems that only happen when a system's set to full swing.
In any sim that I do not name in my next post on this thread, I will require a location where I can place a temporary object (they die after they run fully) for 8 to 10 hours. Any group land will require a majority of officers agreeing to letting me place my mappers on the land, in cases of 2 or fewer officers, 1 will suffice. 3 or larger, I will require confirmation from over half the group. Any member may veto, at which point I am open for discussion, and then will only accept a unanimous vote from the officers of the group.
My mappers use single scripts, for efficiency, and are tested to barely show up in process time (less than 0.1 milisecond), and will not noticably effect simFPS or time dialation in operation. (Data on operation based on 10x load test on a 800 FPS sim, less than 100 FPS drop, 0.1 MS run task increase during 10x test)
I only require 1 parcel per sim, so if a sim's on the list, it's not needed. The list itself will be edited repeatedly to reflect current positions, so check it before offering, please.

As for the function of my mapper, it records height and ownership information for the generation of height and political maps (color coded)
Privacy of the land owners will be respected as I do not intend to use the owner data for anything more than the color coded political map and have no intent of distributing it.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's the ultimate goal of the project? Statistical data for a study? Just really neat stats for kicks?
I would be happy to help you with such a study if you get an okay from the major landowners in my home sim (Rose). I own my 512 parcel tier there, and should have a few prims to spare as needed.

Statistics are exactly what my project's about. Just for the fun of it, SL as a world interests me, and I want to gather as much data as I can on it.
I am also working on a web site that will display my findings in the near future (IE when I finish it's design. x.x)

You can use my land in Uba, Ice. You've been to the house I think, big white block with a pool and waterfall. Mistic knows.
IM me when you want to do it so I can turn off the autoreturn.

I trust Ice, in part because she extolls the virtues of friendly efficiency. I too am interested to learn what further stats can be gleaned from this world we live in. Glad to hear you're finally posting about this! Sooo... when's Gualalaland gonna be put to use?

Due to a glitch, the first night of scanning is a complete flop, to those few people who I did set mappers on property of, you may remove the faulty heightmappers at your leisure.... I'll tend to my mistake and start anew when I wake up, for now, I'm going to try and relax, and let the mail queue work it's way down.

Whenever you're ready again Ice, you can drop one on my land in Davos and one in Oyster. Let me know ahead of time and I'll turn off the autoreturn.

Canyonlands in Davenport is available -- it's the forest on the north bank of the river.
Will the raw data from this be available? I'd like to try integrating it with my 3D mapping efforts.

I am very happy to help with something like this that is out in the open and explained, especially if the results are published. I am assuming, of course, that your scripts are well done and won't lag the sim. How long does your scanner need to run in a sim?
I have land in

Drop me a line in game, and I will see about discussing it with all of Varney & surrounding areas.

I just bought some land in Cottonwood, so feel free to use that for your project. As a geography major, I am really interested in these types of projects.

I think self-replicating a prim about the grid that scans and then dies is OK.
Basically, I have added a timetodie to my scanner which checks to see if we're after a certain timestamp and then llDies().
This way you're only using the grid for a few hours rather than days or weeks at a time.
Just make sure you are very very confident in what you are doing.

About in the middle of Louise sim there's a plot called Walkering Promenade West where I have return turned off and you're welcome to scan from there. I look forward to seeing the results.

obviously ice please feel free to run them in lusk and perry.
The thing about these that seperates them from the OMGLANDSCANNER!!!11!!!ONE1!'s is that they only do a single run, once, and then delete themselves, and thats it. (unless you request a re-run of them at a later date im assuming if the map for your sim is too out of date)
