That sounds as though you are comparing yourself, and your importance, to the President.

No, I am just one girl who tries do her job like everyone else. But it is people on forums and elsewhere who treat me as if I were some president or something. One day it is all hype and celebrity and next day it is all about uber villain. If you would simply leave me alone and let me go about my business like everybody else that would be much more to my liking.

but you did choose this "high visibility" lifestyle, and I fear it comes with the territory.

This is true, because I am honest. When I started most major land barons were hiding behind various alts. In contrast to that I bid on every auction with my normal name and marked every parcel of land with my name. I have been honest about I work for profit and never tried to fake anything else. And I even allowed my income figures be published to help SL as one whole and its marketing. Now this openess and honesty made me one easy target while everybody else was flying below radar. I guess that is life.

I don't think its gonna stop. You are so big that you affect the game experience of almost all the rest of us. This has to have implications for you too. Its not really surprising, is it?

What you do, and how you behave, does legitimately matter to us.

This still doesn't make it legitimate to slander my name and start Anshe-guilty-by-default threads and post about me as if I would be some criminal on probation. I also think there are enough other people who affect the SL game experience. During all this, people seem repeatedly forget that I am also one person. How about ethics and morality when it comes to slandering one person and calling her out with false accusations?

If people find something wrong then they should collect proof and file abuse reports. But dragging people through mud on forums is not right way to do things.

But it's so much more entertaining for the rest of us this way.

My Gawd! Anshe Chung picked up some piece of land not after 7 days but after 8 or 10 days! Scandal! Scandal!

You obviously have too much time and nothing better to do. But good to know some people meticulously watch my every step, day in, day out and still can't come up with anything better :-)

After more than 15000 transactions with more than 2000 happy customers, turning over more than 200 sims worth of land (or 1/4th of Second Life world) your desperate dig for drama get really funny. It is like trying impeach the American president for not using ecologically recycled toilet paper to wipe his *** ;-)

Hey Anshe - calm down. How would you feel in my place if someone had bent their RULES for me and you'd wound up paying over the odds as a result?

Please remember I didn't introduce this discussion to this thread, you did!

I'm not the one making a fuss about it, you are!

Right up to this point I've been friendly toward you, and failed to see why so many people have a downer on you - don't change my mind - now, want to drop the matter?

Buster, in post 40 just up above, I discuss in detail this question of if and when someone might fairly complain if forced to their own maximum bid by someone who subsequently withdraws. I don't want to go through it again, but if you have a look, you might find at least part of it persuasive that things are not quite as clearcut as you suggest.

In essence, withdrawal of the winner deprives his replacement of what an auction properly promises. That he cannot pay more than $1 in excess of what someone else was willing to pay.

Second chance is optional. You can turn it down.

I agree that if somebody were to shill with no intention of actually buying it, that would be despicable. I just don't think that has actually happened.

Nor do I, in the present case. We agree on that, Buster. But there was nothing wrong with checking to be sure.

As Anshe says, she is just a person. There's no need for anyone to feel intimidated by her.

I met her and talked once, and found her very nice. Its just that, sadly, she is gonna have to get used to some of this examination of her actions, because they matter so much. But I don't think she has to put up with sneering and downright nastiness.

We see mild paranoia, and taking unintended offence, every day in the forums. It is only to be expected that this same syndrome will show up too in peoples thoughts about land barons etc . They will see something odd, or be beaten to something, and suspect foul play. Nothing wrong in calmly checking such concerns out. Sometimes they might be right.

And on the other side too. I don't thing Anshe would dispute that, like so many of us, she has tiny hints of paranoia and over-sensitivity in her own character. Though doubtless she would blame us for triggering them !

I don't want anyone getting too rich and therefore powerful. I don't want a near monopoly. I'm worried we are a bit near it. But thats a general worry. It just happens to be Anshe that is doing so well. If LL don't think its good for the game, they can change the rules any time.

Keep it in proportion. How many Anshe's will we have room for when we reach population 1,000,000 ? She just stands out, and takes all the flak, because she is the first. And she makes a very valid point that she really didn't need to be this visible. It has been helpful to her credibility, but she could have taken a more secretive posture, couldn't she?

Anyone who thought the risk worth it could move straight in at double or treble Anshe's size. Tomorrow. The investment is puny in RL business terms. She is the biggest frog in a tiny, tiny pond. If the risk changes you may see things begin to happen.

But at present I just don't know why she takes the risk at all, at its current very high level. Maybe she is looking at that 1,000,000 population target.

Lets not start this up again, Doc. But I haven't seen anyone establish that such a thing actually happened in the context we are discussing. I've looked quite closely, and I don't see it. I'm surprised to find me, who Prok labelled the anti-Anshe-jihadist, in the role of Anshe-defender. But facts are facts and fair is fair. Unless you are talking about something new, I just don't see it.

Maybe she IS the businesswoman out of hell, I can't know. But not on the facts presented in this thread.
