There's been plenty of notice. We were all notified when Philip announced his plans to usurp GOM's designs and create their own. From that point forward it was only a matter of time. And that's not to mention the other disastrous warning signs like half of GOM's ownership pulling out, and the near-straight-line plummet of the L$ value.

Good post! I don't blame Anshe for making the request but we should be lucky we are getting any final notice.

Reputation is *EVERYTHING* in business.

If I had known that they were going to be doing these sorts of things, I certainly wouldn't have said all the things I did about them.

I probably would have shopped at IGE a lot more as well.

You mention "maximum impact". To be frank, the only impact I would see if GOM really closes in such short-notice "maximum impact" manner would be that they proove Philip's point. If anything comes from this, then that everybody at State of Play will see that, after all, resident businesses are still just very, lets say, "personal affairs".

I seriously doubt that if a decision was ever made to shutdown SL (e.g. no money), Phillip would give is two weeks 30 days, or even four days notice. GOM has no physical inventory -- they cannot have a fire sale. History is littered with businesses facing dim prospects shutting down.

I take GOM at their word that recent events made this business a losing proposition. Making this a "personal affair" would be if they decided to continue to lose money for the sake of the community.

It sucks this happened but it appears to be a sound business decision for their organization.

I think everyone is being a little harsh on GOM. Imagine if GOM was your baby, I can only imagine how they feel right now. Its understandable to feel frustration with the impact GOM closure has on everyone. The fact that everyone does feel this way is only as a result of their good hard work that has resulted on our reliance on them.

Yeah, but you don't just close up shop with 4 days notice.

Hiro - how about if you did that? How do you think your customers would feel?

Hey your lucky you got notice and the chance to withdrawl, as they are a rl business like sl, they could of declared bankrupcy and have your assets frozen etc.

I've have rl businesses close with 24 hours notice, while they try to sell off stock then call in the administrators etc.

So to be honest 4 days is excellent, escpecially after that you can still take out your money

If the patient's head is cut off, there's not much point in trying to take a pulse before declaring them dead. Nor does one need to have a degree in medicine to know that the wound is fatal.

(PS: I pulled my money out well over a month ago, and am sitting on it. I'm also crossing my fingers in hopes that despite LL's actions, it might actually bounce back in value eventually).

Exactly!

And yet everyone whines - did you thing GOM was kidding?

I do understand, I am a GOM customer myself. But I also understand how GOM must be feeling too, and for that reason I am not goign to bash them.

What I do is a little different, and would need more notice if I was heading out.

And if you had actually read the notice, you have four days of TRADES left. After that time you will be able to get your $L and $US.

And quite frankly, if you had that much invested in such a volitile market to begin with, one has to wonder what you planned on doing if something much more drastic happend.

I strongly agree with what Anshe has said -- 4 days notice is not a respectable amount of warning. Ideally the community should have been given 30 days (although two weeks is fine), so we can close up, find competitors, rather than be left in the dark, with a good deal of reevaluation to do.
Would this be in contrast to logging in to find the contents of my rental boutique at GSM returned with ZERO prior notice, not once, but TWICE? The first time was because the owners of GSM decided to rebuild the structure, the second time was due to some fallout between the owners and the destruction of GSM.

Not that I feel I was cheated, nor do I think it wasn't your prerogative to do so, nor would it necessarily affect my dispositon toward GigasGroup. But holy jeebus! At least preach what you practice.

Please contact me at apotheus@gmail.com if you are interested in helping to test a new currency market at SL Exchange.

We already have most of the necessary development done in different projects, and just have to patch them together and make a working system. This exchange will operate on standard first-come, first-serve market logic and will do partial fills to have the same functionality everyone is used to with GOM. We may be able to start testing as soon as Sunday.

Some time ago we changed the logic of our in-world terminals to process deposits and withdrawals atomically with fault-tolerance, so we have not experienced xml-rpc related problems that have been mentioned.

Isn't the proper name of that firm "SL Exchange, a division of AnsheCorp"? If so, why is a representative of AnsheCorp complaining about GOM's closure?

Well if that is true then you could say that linden opening their system early will kinda take compeition away from this new system, but then i also wonder what said corp. had 16mil forsale on gom for causing the market to fall from its previous days high, robin has already posted in hotline that ige's second account is frozen, so looks at leaderboard to see who else is missing.

Sorry, but I am in no way affiliated with Gigas.

I am not complaining. I am just asking the owners of GOM to give the community a little bit more time to react.

Of course people are busy now working on solutions so that you and everybody else can continue to enjoy smooth economy. And aside of this, SLExchange is not a division of ANSHECHUNG.COM. It is a separate business.

Doesn't mean IGE wasn't the big seller on GOM yesterday -- just means that their account is frozen NOW. And no more big blocks on GOM. To me, means it was IGE L$.

Sorry if this repeats

I tried to skim to see if this had been posted

" We regret to announce that Gaming Open Market will be stopping all
trading of L$ effective 10pm eastern time Sunday October 2nd. After
that, the site will remain open long enough to allow everyone to
withdraw their cash and L$ balances. "

So yea we only get 4 days to do more business there, but it will remain open enough for people to get balances out.

I think it should be kept open at least 30 days after the last day of trading, but however long they choose to be open for business is up to them, not anyone else.

Oh yeah!

Now I can rest easy knowing people are doing more to make certain the economy is smooth.

You're so good to us all Anshe!
