Eien- Price fixing is illegal. But irrelevant in this case because even if you managed to get 99% of the content providers to buy into this model... that 1% that refuse will still flood the market with ever more popular freebies. Not to mention all the freebies already in circulation. Sure, band together to present a united voice to LL to bring more powerful attention to important problems that need to be addressed... But expect enough people to change what they do to bring about the world you'd like to see? Good luck.

From: Eien Stein I renew the motion and appeal to all SL Builders and Content Providers to protect their interests and also the long run interests of SL Economy. 1. End Freebie Culture. Don't give anything away free. make it a principle and commit to it. Would you ever get a single sqm free? Then why are you doing that with your own talent and effort? Everytime you give something free, remeber you are hurting EVERY CONTENT CREATOR including yourself. Charge prices, and never charge less than L$10 for the things you used to give free. Why would someone buy your stuff if they can get it free. So be kind to yourself and other builders and CHARGE for everything. Lets compete in quality and standard. lets make better stuff to attract customer, but let not compete in prices that will hurt all of us while non-creative morons will make money. Remember: You deserve your "wage" for what you give. 2. Make a Consortium, a Content providers Group that would regularly advise minimum prices and reccommend estimated percentage increase in prices according to changes in L$ value. That group would look for ways to peotect the interests of builders and content providers in SL. And that group would also "negotiate" with LL to change certain policies which are hurting them. 3. Keep a goal in mind when revenue generated through content should match the one generated by buying and selling land. ...open to suggestions. We made suggestions..you just repeated your earlier drivel. You mean to say 'open to suggestions that don't vary from my opinion.' Since you say the same thing AGAIN, I will do the same. From: me 1. I will make MORE freebies.
2. I will undercut other merchants because any lindens I make beyond upload costs are PROFIT.
3. You aren't guaranteed profit. deal with it.

From: Eien Stein Remember: You deserve your "wage" for what you give. No, you don't, any more than if you opened a store in RL. It's up to you to produce products that people want to buy--it's not up to your customers to pay you what you think you deserve. A "wage" is when someone else agrees to pay you for your time or effort. "Revenue" is when a customer decides to buy your product. The two are not the same at all. From: someone ...open to suggestions. Take an introductory economics course, or maybe an "introduction to business" course. Most small business in RL fail. This is not because theRL consumer marketplace is hostile to content providers, it's because most content providers don't know anything about running a business. SL is much, much more generous to sellers than RL is.

People buy from the places that they visit. You've gotta give them a reason to visit.
Besides, anything that makes SL less fun is bad for SL. I'm changing my signature to Obvious Lady.

From: Eien Stein I renew the motion and appeal to all SL Builders and Content Providers to protect their interests and also the long run interests of SL Economy.
You bring nothing new to the discussion.. From: Eien Stein lets make better stuff to attract customer, but let not compete in prices that will hurt all of us while non-creative morons will make money.
Not compete in pricing?!?! What planet are you from anyway? If I can build a better mousetrap and give it away, so what? Maybe the next guy will say mines sucks and build a better one himself worth a few bucks.. It's all about CHOICE.. Something I enjoy... From: Eien Stein Remember: You deserve your "wage" for what you give.
Who are you to decide what my "wage" is? My "wage" is that I get to learn a new programming language at no cost, meet people I would never have the chance to otherwise, and make some of the best friends I have ever had. That to me is worth all the free scripts, textures and clothing that SL has and then some. Maybe I have a different view, but I play SL for the enjoyment of it, not to make a profit. If you want to spend your RL money, buy land and then try to sell stuff to help support it-your choice not mine. Oh, wait... I forgot, its my resposibility to make sure YOU can make money, how selfish of me to want to just have fun... I bet you're the kinda person that typed "rosebud;" while playing the SIMS to get an extra 100,000 until your "career" took off... viva-laissez-faire!!!! (I hope I spelt that right ) Banshee, Jublilation Banshee... Protect "FREE" enterprise..

SL and the FREEBIES, by YadNi Monde (Mister Freebie Himself)
06-01-2006 11:43
On one hand, we have real life, where nothing is free, where we have constraints and where we do what we must much more than what we d want. On the other hand we have SL, where you are for your pleasure, and possibly make money, without constraints, doing what you want much more than what you must. In that world of imagination where the boundaries are yourself, you need to learn how it works, and one of the ways is alone, dissecting and studiying what some great and generous persons designed for you to be able to do so. The more Freebies there are, and the better the quality of the Freebie is, is the best way to teach people how to do things that are even better. Better Freebies improve the level of quality of the whole community to higher standards. And if you are unable to do better than the freebie you found, do you really think it brings enough originality and skill to be bought ? I own the Junkyard since i arrived in SL, because i was dreaming of a library of stuff to learn from, i just made it, and i witnessed something you did not, the creative persons who came to the junkyard and chose to dissect and understand are now some Top Designers that make money for their own. In real world, you make money because you have to, here, let talented people have a way to learn tricks freely so they can eventually win money doing what they want. Oh, btw, I dont intend to leave SL, i have much fun here, and i love prims and i think they love me too, also i love my Junkyard and am proud of it and i will run it as long as i m here, sorry if that s bad news Yours, Friendly, YadNi =) Have Fun or Leave !!!

Yay Yadni! Love your stuff and your builds. Still think you're one of the best, if at least not one of the most impressive, ones out there. In regards to freebies versus sellable content out there, I've always looked at it pretty much the same as your junkyard being the equivalent of sourceforge.net, and sellable content as privately made software. Both have great value

Thanks for the advice, however, that was rude. You may have different opinion and a bigger junkyard, but that doesn't give you right to tell others that they should either agree with you or leave their second life. You sound like Republican! how absurd would it sound if I say to all builders that : "Do serious building with business in mind or leave!"? To artists, who came with an idea different to yours, your above words sound equally absurd. SL is a world, and everybody has different idea how it should be, and everybody on these forums can give vent to their thoughts and opinions, agree, disagree....but, to tell others to agree with you or leave is just way across the line. I am new, and unknown, ... as once you were.
