Why is snow still unpopular?

From: Lisse Livingston I've even seen a completely walled-in lot with the entire ground resurfaced in grass texture. Why did this person not just buy land in a grassy area? Because snow is cheaper Hey! That very well could be my shop! I will clear this up: that's astroturf. It's far too cold here in Takalo for grass to ever grow. As to why I got it? You're on the money. Having the closest land to a telehub at around L$3/sqm per plot made my day. Over summer, land here reached close to L$1.5/sqm. It still took a few weeks for all the plots at that price to be bought up. I think the reason that snow is still unpopular is that people just don't like the "view" of snow, when compared to green or northern continent sims... Which is good, because it keeps the ice fields quiet and peaceful for the rest of us

How many times as it been cautioned not to buy snow land, or pg land for that matter. Instead of indulging ones imagination and creativity, when it comes to spending money the expectation is for a return to be there. Snow land may not not be for everyone but I think it's unfortunate that those for whom it might be for are discouraged away from purchasing there. The alternative being for LL to create only the same landsacepes which works for the majority over and over again.
An alternate theory along the looking at snow makes you cold line is that many people come to SL wanting to be motivated to take their clothes off, not put them on.

Haha... very nice, I think there is a certain psychology to that. It's kind of like food colored blue, even if it's a tasty dish your mind will clash with it for a little while. Some sort of cognitive dissonance going on there. Heck, if one was to get creative, you don't even have to look at the snow. You can make a skybox however you want... or even cover the snow with grass prims. It's a bit hacky but doable.

I heard a rumor that you were back, most welcome news indeed. A salute to those who appreciate the beauty of snow sims and blue moon ice cream.

Thank you, Forseti. Yep, it's in my Picks -- Snow Hotep. ( Hotep is ancient Egyptian for peaceful. Unsurprisingly, I haven't found an Egyptian word for snow.)

I forgot, when in snow country, one should expect at times to see their breath making a stream of fog.

My first SL land was snow land in Vail and I still love it. I bought it because it was less expensive, very pretty and I was hoping I wouldn't be surrounded by tacky malls and clubs. Well surprise! My land is still woody and pretty but the horizon is full of builds that I can't even look at without shuddering. Back when I bought it in Oct 2004 a friend said to me, "you know you will have to eventually cut these trees down." Not only did I not cut the trees down but I added more and arranged the buildings around them. Now we have a winter wonderland with a fine lodge built by Taun Patel, covered swimming pool, guest cabin, small skating rink and a workshop. I wouldn't trade my winter wonderland for anything. Everyone who visits is advised to dress warmly. ps: If anyone is curious just type Susieland in Find and remember to bring your warm clothes!

I think the snow regions are great,to me its a get away from home,a home away from home,i live in sage, which is a great place, and my best friend Doranda Butler and i decided a winter land would be a great place to go to get away from the land of green, and enjoy the snow white view of the winterlands once in awhile,so we,re building a house in 1 of the winter regions now,on a waterfront, its going to look even better at christmas time,so i have no complaints about the winter regions, except one, whens the blizzard comming..lol

I think the SL nesting fantasy tends to involve tropical weather - these are the plots that go for more. Even Neualtenburg isn't on a snow sim anymore.

I like the snow sims and own almost all of one, Orelle, where Silk Waters Mountain has continued to expand.
I also hav taken great care to build as much realism into my snow lands as possible and plant and landscape in snow fashion. I am in agreement that more acticity and variety in snow itself would be fun and am always looking for scripters who might help me with that idea...
Orelle is certainly one of the most completely landscaped and themed winter sims so if you have not seen it please do come and visit the largest snow clad japanese village in SL.

for some reason, the snow sims are also cloudy. A beautiful crystal clear mountain landscape is great. Having your nose in the fog is not. In RL, brightness up a moutain is HIGHER than on the ground, in SL, it is LOWER due to ever present clouds . I honestly don't think it's much more complicated than that.

I had an accident in the snow where I stepped into a hole and fell foward hyperextending the knee. I was totally unable to walk and in terrible pain. My mother and my sister were with me but the area was too steep and being 6 ft 200lbs at 17 I was too heavy for them to help me walk so I had to crawl on my hands and knees up the side of a mountain to reach the road. Must have been about a quarter mile or so.
F**k snow.

Maybe instead of snow the ground could be covered with dry ice? It would make neat fog, and you could stick quarters on it and push them a bit and they would sing a high pitched noise, and you could extinguish matches by holding them down near the ground, and you could use it in ice cream maker machines, and sell it to hunters to keep their kill fresh.

Add the -40.000 to 40.000 terraform to all the Snow Sims.. that will increase their worth immediately. Sure there is no height tax these days but people will pay through the nose to be able to terraform their land.

From: Gaz Hornpipe Add the -40.000 to 40.000 terraform to all the Snow Sims.. that will increase their worth immediately. Sure there is no height tax these days but people will pay through the nose to be able to terraform their land. There are two camps of thought on this. Those of us who value the ability of residents to construct their own ideal personal inworld environment using the land they rent each month, and those who value the concept of a contiguous realistic world. Unfortunately, the latter camp has Philip's vote on this issue. Ergo, it's a nonissue. The patent answer is "if you want to terraform, rent an estate." Slightly off topic, one necessary difference between what we play today and Gold SL is that a sim will be the smallest block of land an account can own. Subdividing land will only be used to grant individual and group rights to renters. I would love to own snow land bordering Orelle. I've been keeping my eye out but don't have a ton of tier and money to throw at the larger lots that've been available. When I have some, I'll have to live under the snowman because my snowbuilds really really suck. Y'all really must go see Silk Waters in Orelle. It's da snow boss.

Silk Waters is one of the greatest builds in SL. Anyone who hasn't seen it should make the trip. It's a must-see.
btw, as of last night, most of Grindlewald is up for sale. If you or anyone you know is considering a snow build, please come check it out. I'm hoping for neighbors with log cabins, penguins, Yeti . . . cool (icy, snowy) neighbors with nice wintery builds, so I can take down some of my view-preserving fake mountains!
