Look, everything in life has a duality. Though its unpleasant for some, the truth is that there are always winners and losers. End of story.

The duality of "winners" vs "losers" depends on people playing by the same rules in the same game.

"The Capitalist Game" is only one of many different games played in either life... first or second.

Winners are those that achieve their goals. Whatever those goals may be.

I was going to say:

Jamie Bergman = Del Boy on crack

but realised that was being far too generous.

Jamie Bergman = Boycie on Meth.

Shootin' blanks all day long, babe!

That said, if you truly believed that money does equal happiness, then it would be proof you don't have any. A wealthy person doesn't make that statement. That is a statement commonly made by people who struggle financially and dream of a "happier, greener" life on the other side of the fence.

See the grin on my face? Ear to ear, baby!

Its not that I believe or disbelive it. Its been proven. Eat your Mc-Ahdoo out:

I have to say that research does not out right prove that money will bring you happiness. Rather the key quote seems to be:

From: someone
"The researchers' findings lend strong support for the idea that the way money impacts happiness does indeed depend on the individual."

So yes if you are in it for the money then you will in theory be more happier.

Having said that, the research also identified that money isn't the be all and end all of a person's happiness. Again seems the relevant quotes are:

From: someone
"First of all," said Malka, "we found that income had a positive relationship with both well-being and job satisfaction for individuals high in extrinsic orientation. That is, if money is what you value, then money, indeed, will make you happy."

"However," he continued, "we found a more surprising pattern regarding intrinsic orientation. Specifically, for those high in intrinsic orientation, money actually had a negative effect on well-being. In other words, among those who had a relatively strong tendency to value work because they enjoyed it or it fulfilled them, those making more money were actually less happy than those making relatively little money.

So basically to sum it up I suppose if you are in a job for the job satisfaction and other values then money is irrelavent and could also be a hindrance to your personal satisfaction and wellbeing.

Interesting article.

Jamie-

Did you even read your 'proof' ?
"In fact, employees who are primarily motivated by the love of their work become less happy the more money they make."

"In a capitalistic society, people generally believe that - all other things being equal - being rich is better," Chatman added. "But that is not what we found."

"We would not expect income to have a negative relationship with well-being for any type of person, regardless of their values, within a lower income sample."
Seems like the only thing you bothered to read was:
"if money is what you value, then money, indeed, will make you happy."
It boils down to supply and demand, sweety. Your obsessive fixation on the acquisition of more money doesn't say flattering things about your financial status. :)

Well if I wasnt a lady of at least some means, I wouldn't be posting here... I'd be taking orders at Mc-Ahdoo in the morning, changing bed linens in the afternoon, and parking cars at night.

I'd certainly not be able to post in these wonderful forums :D

New World Notes had an article over a year ago about one SL resident. She had a nice big house in SL, fully furnished and looking rather posh. (my guess on rented land). Was living a nice dream-life in here. In real life she lost her job months ago, had no house, was either begging for money or eating at soup kitchens, and lived in an abandoned appartment up on a high floor of an abandoned house that happened to still have power hooked up for some reason. She owned a laptop and a can directional wifi antenna, which she stuck out of her abandoned appartment's house, and used those means to connect to the web and play SL. It was her escape from the REALLY poor and messed up life she found herself in after her financial crash. So, you really never know who's behind the AV you run into on here.

Who Are The Real Winners?
06-05-2006 10:07
It all depends on why your in Second Life in the first place. I do not create things, or at least at this point. I do not have a job in SL (do not want to be a male stripper..lol), so therefore all my costs go on the good old credit card (Quite a sum mind you), but, I am here for fun, to relieve the stresses of real life, make great friends, and do a lot of things I would normally never do in RL. So, I guess the bottom line is I feel I am a winner. And for all of those who are getting out of SL what they are in here for, they are also the winners. Who are the loser? Well, I think the real losers are those who bring too much of the real world into SL. This is Second Life, not First Life. Enjoy it for what it is, be it a game (Like I do), to make money (And only a few make any REAL money), or forever reason your here. Enjoy!

I may quibble with your particular idealism and strongly disagree with some of your ethics... but I do rather enjoy your posts, you have pluck and spirit. I'm glad you have sufficient ways and means to be here. :)

I don't care if you're an asexual amoeba, I'd still think you're whacked.

Way to play the gender card theough, and way to ignore that some of those who disagree with you are also female.
