RL Winner: Garbage man with a loving wife and kids who has little money but is happy and content and looks forward to coming home every day.

RL Loser: Millionaire CEO whose trophy wife doesn't really love him, has plenty of money but stays in his office because he has no reason to come home every day.

The winners are the residents who never read the land and economy forum.

Im strangly addicted to reading (and sometime adding) to the nonsense here, so Im definately a loser.

Well, so long as LL "wins" with us instead of competing with us. :)

Hmmm... 69%....

Pastafarians waiting for the touch of the flying spaghetti monster's noodley appendage?

Maybe they're all trust-fund-avatars bankrolled by some insidious RL person that slaves away at some thankless job "So my little avatar can have all the things I didn't when I was a kid!"

Spoiled brats, thinking the grid owes them a living wage or something. Tsk, why in MY day we had to upload textures in the snow, up hill... BOTH WAYS!

This sig has officially spun out of control.

Oh Pham, don't try to overthink it. Its easy to think of RL winners and losers:

RL Winners: CEOs, Doctors, Millionaires, Trophy Wives
RL Losers: McDonalds order taker, garbage man, junkies, dope addicts.

See?

Oh, Jamie... you forgot to add "Freebie Resellers" to the "Losers" list.. RL or not.

Other.

The current leaders, by a LONG shot, are those who come to SL and just enjoy themselves. Anyone trying to bring an -ist or -ism from RL into SL is only going to lose in the long run.

Vote.

Definately not you, loser.

If you were such a great capitalist you wouldn't even touch SL, nor would you have to stoop to reselling other's IP.

That's right folks, Jamie is an actor (and a piss-poor one at that) using SL in some masturbatory fashion, probably from mom's PC, trying to look like SL's Donald Trump, but coming off more like Donald Gump.

And lumping in McDonald's workers and garbage men with "junkies" is pretty fucking stupido.

Get a clue.

Jamie reminds me of Alec Baldwin's character in Glen Glengarry Ross. The top salesman who comes in and flashes his watch and talks about his car and claims that all that proclaims him a "winner".

Of course, it is a movie, but I have a question for people like that in RL that stops them cold.

"What is your net worth?"

Net worth is that dollar amount that you have after liquidating all of your assets and paying all of your debts.

Yeah, the guy has a Rolls, but it is leased and he owes more than the car is worth. Yeah, he has a big house, but it has three mortgages at over 10% interest and at 200% of the equity (legally, you are only supposed to carry 2 mortgages and only 125% of the equity, but there are ways around it). The sharp clothes, expensive watch, the wife's wardrobe? His credit card debt exceeds the gnp of some small countries. If he had to sell everything and pay his debts, he'd spend years digging himself out of that hole.

Just because somebody is making lots of money and/or appears to make lots of money, doesn't mean that they aren't sitting on a house of cards.

Let's see.

One person builds their little heart out, makes things that are pleasing to the eye. They've good friends. They make a reasonable amount of money (enough to cover rent and toys). More people want them around than want them gone, they're loved by a few, they have fun.

One person takes advantage of the generosity of others, advocates exploitation of other people for profit, thinks that morals are a kind of mushroom, and that the final worth of a person can be weighed in dollar bills. They're generally despised as a sort of thief without the imagination to actually theive.

I know who I like being. I just don't know why anyone would want to be #2.

Reminds me of a TV commercial where this really happy and extremely well off looking guy shows off his house, his car, his golf game, and his really nice lawn. Then he says, "How could I afford all this?" and with a sort of a sad smile, "I'm in debt up to my eyeballs... Somebody help me?" It then goes into the advert part talking about debt consolidation stuff. But yeah, was funny,a nd definitely something people overlook. My parents (and my house before I moved out a few years ago) is near a VERY rich area. Like, $5mil to $20mil houses rich. And you can always tell the millionares apart from everyone else. If it's some guy jogging through the streets in torn jeans and a messy t-shirt, or driving in a really old klunker that looks like it's about to rust to pieces, that's one of the local millionares. They have that money cause they don't waste it on non-necesities.
I also noticed a lot of similar misconceptions in SL. People see someone with a lot of SL land, lots of business areas, casinos, etc, and they think, "Oh, that guy must be loaded. Screw that land baron," when in reality that guy is probably anticipating a $300US bill from LindenLabs, another huge credit card bill for the money he borrowed to buy the original land, and is barely getting by with what he's making off his in game sales.

Uh no - I just don't see the need to put people down who are less fortunate.

Actually, if I had to guess, I'd guess you're the McBurger World employee, what with all your inane posturing. Trying to make up for some RL shortcoming are we?

You didn't have to say "yes" when they asked you if you wanted to "biggie-size" your ego, ya know.

As far as your duality hogwash goes, the world is not divided that way, and we wouldn't have moved beyond cave-dwellings if it was.

Someday Jamie, you'll grow up. Until then you're just a wooden marionette whose nose is growing at an alarming rate, trying to pass herself off as an "expert", when you really have no clue whatsoever about economics.

First of all Jamie, I still believe you are nothing but a troll, roleplaying this extremist capitalist role for the fun of it, getting off on the reactions and people communicating with you who otherwise wouldn't.

That said, if you truly believed that money does equal happiness, then it would be proof you don't have any. A wealthy person doesn't make that statement. That is a statement commonly made by people who struggle financially and dream of a "happier, greener" life on the other side of the fence.

Perhaps if you stick to your amoral ways of doing business you could one day actually reach that dream and be able to legitamitely call yourself a wealthy capitalist. When that day comes look in the mirror and ask yourself if it brought you happiness. You'll have to ask yourself because you wont have any friends left to ask you.

But for now your mommy is calling you to clean your room, time to stop playing the troll.

Not only that, she is lying about "proof", too.:)

Most comparative studies dealing with the issue of "happiness" actually do indicate that there is a correlation between money and happiness - but only for the very poor. "More money = more happiness" seems to be valid until you reach a yearly income of 10,000$ or so (have to google for the exact numbers again). This is not much of a surprise. When you don't know how to pay for your next meal, a few dollars probably will make you happier. Above that level no correlation between wealth and happiness can be deducted anymore.

You are right: probably Jamie knows all this and just enjoys stirring up the crowd a bit.

But ... do you know the only defense against that? It is easy:

Don't feed the troll!
