Problem #3 - scum-sucking-no-talent-bottom-feeders who feel it is a right to resell items created by others who intended them to be and remain free to the community.

I guess that will be an opportunity for all greifers to attend and test their various weapons and whatnot... good luck! The economic system of SL can't be saved. For that, it would need to be real. It's not.

From: Pratyeka Muromachi I guess that will be an opportunity for all greifers to attend and test their various weapons and whatnot... good luck! The economic system of SL can't be saved. For that, it would need to be real. It's not. Once upon a time, a man stated that he is building a country and not a game. Out of all the games out there, SL has grown to be unique in almost every aspect. as we sit here and try to convince ourselves that it is only a game, others are using SL to make a living. Linden Labs has advertised SL as a place to make RL$. Not just a game. so in essence, LL has taken the game out of SL, and created their own country complete with economy and currency. This proves that SL is not just a game, it is a virtual country with a virtual economy, and thus affects peoples income as cashing in game money is RL living money for some. So I say that the economy does need to be discussed, a meeting is a good idea, but unless LL creates a character for thir so called economist, I think the meeting will be nothing but economic griefing. So listen LL... Send in the economist, and lets all work together to keep our virtual country afloat! "I see before me a whole army of my countrymen..." (William Wallace)

"I see before me a whole army of my countrymen..." (William Wallace) We're going to invite to LL's economist (who does have a "character" to the summit. This is so if LL isn't too busy to attend, they can hopefully help to guide our efforts in directions which make mutual sense. The purpose of this summit is not to create a list of requests/demands to send to LL in hopes that they will code "big red buttons" that can be pushed to fix everything, though. This summit is about resident initiative. As you've correctly pointed out, the Second Life platform is marketed to us as "Our World, Our Imagination". I imagine a much more robust, stable and useful economy. The platform contains a great economic backbone, but the economy doesn't seem to be too actively managed. With this in mind, I, for one, think that it's high time for citizens to step up to the plate, start accepting some collective responsibility for the overall health and wellbeing of our virtual economy, and start working towards poineering and implementing citizen run economic systems to meet these responsibilities. This path won't be an easy one or an instant one, for sure, but nothing worth doing ever is. So, let's get together, think big, and see what we can and cannot accomplish.

Please include me too... my hours are odd enough though that I doubt I'll be able to attend when it would be most convenient for others. A summary of the event posted to this thread afterwards would be very much appreciated though! (If I do actually have the opportunity to attend, I promise to keep my wise-cracks restricted to strictly relevant and hopefully positive topics. -- The olympics and American Football are 'just games'. Games with large enough audiences that businesses and jobs spring into existence around them. So is SL a Game or Not-A-Game? It all depends how you play.

From: someone as we sit here and try to convince ourselves that it is only a game, others are using SL to make a living. It never was anything but a game for me..I'd have to convince myself it wasn't a game.
