Build SL Homes and Sell Them (Pre-Fab homes).

There is tons of money in this industry. Just look at SLEXchange.com and how well homebuilders are doing.

I plan to enter this market today.

Not really. There are still very few competitors, per capita. I plan on capturing market share by undercutting current prices.

Unlike the clothing or casino industries where there is probably a 1:1 ratio.

I have a question, do you actually plan on building any houses?

I will probably sub-contract out the actual building, but I plan to get heavily involved in the retail distribution of them.

Do you poll any of the existing creators before making these grandiose proclamations? Those of us (myself being a very minor player) in the biz will tell you that pre-fabs are highly cyclical and that they are a lot of work for a small return on investment. All power to ya if you can make a substantial profit.

Houses are a pain to build, difficult to sell, and very low profit. On top of that, the customers are demanding. I make them because I like building stuff.

Low profit? In SL, it's 100% profit from the resources if you sell them on SLX. :p

I gotta admit, prefabs have done pretty well for me.

Not sure what anyone's standards are, but... I was able to buy a sim in a few months from the proceeds of West Trade, and about 70% of my business was from the prefabs.

It's work, though. People buy, but then you gotta help them set up and such.

In fact, between West Trade and Caledon, I'm about maxed out.

I may end up closing West Trade someday - it's just too much work now that I have 50 residents, all their friends and lovers keeping me busy with Caledon and that number will be growing.

The money is nice but... it may just get to be too much to keep doing West Trade Imports one day.

Well, the demographics are in place. SL is booming, and renters continue to pour in. The prefab industry is getting bigger.

Opinion:

Yup, too late, lol.

The other posters are correct. It is very tedious and time-consuming to make houses. And if you don't charge a lot, well . . .

I think probably clothes and animations are a better way to get rich.

But - if you love building houses, well, you are gonna build houses! Right, guys?

I am consistently amazed at how lucrative animations are. There are soooo many out there, and people still make money by the buckets.

Well, since the OP has started a thread for sharing get rich quick schemes, let me share mine:

1) Find a niche market that isn't being filled (some past example: scripted D/S collars, penises for furries)
2) Become de-facto standard in said market
3) Profit.

Coming up: I describe why "buy low, sell high" makes more money than "buy at average price, sell for about the same" :-)

Actually, I did a post very similar to this in the past. Thank you for reinstating the rules of the game. They probably did need to be reviewed for all the nOObs coming into the game with boardroom dreams.

2. will you actually make something of your very own in world for a change
3.what builder would be dumb enough to even half way consider any kind of partnership with you
4. theres some prefabs allready built boxed up at the junk yard why dont you go get thoes and sell them as your own product
5 wonders how long before we see jamie selling the free prefabs to noobs with someone elses name on it.
6. do all of second life a favor dig a hole climb in it cover it up.

Jamie

I am asking you one time. Please stop any plans you have to steal the work of good honest builders and pass it off as your own. I ask you cuz if I catch you I will will do all I can to drive you from SL. Make an honest buck if you can but please dont do what you've done before.
