I always thought it would be good if they had a online stock martket in inside of Secondlife. It would make business more fun and give people are oppertunities. Just think if you just start ed a business a few good investor could make you rich.........With that said i think people will find easier ways to make money and become "blue chip" companies.
Dont you want a stock market, because i do?

no the stocks u are thinking of are Lindex and that only relates to the L..... I personally think a stock market would be great but would be a great challenge of its own, deciding what companies even qualify and how to set it all up would be sort of nightmare as well as the ups and downs in sl's stability would play a major role i would think... I do not pretend to know all about stocks or the market, its just an opinion, but i will say i wouldn't mind putting some money into some buisiness's to gain in the future

From: John Enzyme no the stocks u are thinking of are Lindex OMG, someone that realy can read minds!!! You could be a millionaire within days... Actually no, you're a fraud. I was not thinking of Lindex at all, it being a money market and not a stock exchange. As Svar points out, I was thinking of SLSolutions. Granted it only has one companies stock listed, but it is still a stock exchange.

*rubs the all seeing orb* nah ur right i have no clue, but a finacial backing other than SL BANKS for loans would be great, but as I had said probably the hardest part would be deaming companies fit to play a role..... and I hate to say it, but we all know how fast certain places disappear.. that could create horrible investments.... and yes in RL that can happen too, but I'm talking like 2days a buisiness stays open in sl.... risks are risks i guess with the stock market... i wanna hear some more

Dont you want a stock market, because i do? The Stock Market can't exist until LL allows players to create companies which can issue shares of ownership. From that, the Stock Market would allow the trading of ownership in a company.

I still think we should do with the stock market. Why give all the money to the money when you can get a better investment. And the stock market is all about risks.
Just think if we did have it you will get a lot of money so much money it would be great
and if they had a stock market news thing you can get our information all the time

Stock Market would be great

A real place to invest in real business opportunities would be terrific. However 1) most people who start a business dont want others telling them (shareholders) how to run the business 2) a market means there is actual demand for capital. Now there really is demand for capital, people need $L in order to build/finance/create something. What there isnt currently is a way to make that capital avilable and a way for it to produce returns ie most businesses do not make money for their owners. 3) What is lacking is community need and real community. SL offers "friends" and it offers opportunities to "have fun." I am still trying to develop a community.

Yes linden can create a capital for it. it would only fair to the new players looking for jobs. Linden can figure the stockmarket all out and the way they want it to work. That organized this game why not a stock market?
Well i know this polls show it right thats what the people want is a stock market.

I voted no, this is not because I don't think SL doesn't need one, I just think that SL isn't ready for a stockmarket right now. Maybe later, besides, how many people have thought of this already, what is the count now, 57? 58? hundred? From: Kyrah Abattoir why don't ou go plkay stock mrrket on the real one? itsnot as fun? I would love for there to be a stock market in SL.. however, there's absolutely nothing regulating it... which means it wouldn't work.

Yes it will work if you work hard at it. It will benfit a lot of businesses. It will most likely reduce griefing. Well the poll say that they think there should be a stock market. For all you people that say no. When the stock market is made and starts off to be a good idea...please...dont invest.
just think we can make easy money and try to over come the competition

You should keep this is mind....

Have you ever heard of the S.E.C? Or financial statements? The S.E.C(Securities exchange commission) is the watchdog for real life publicly traded companies and are commisioned by the US government to enforce regulations and moniter the adherence of those regulations. Providing transparent financial statements is one of the regulations that publicly traded companies must adhere to. If a publicly traded company were to provide incorrect information(aka-cook the books) they would be penalized by the governing authority (S.E.C) and restorations may be awarded to the investors or shareholders of that publicly traded company. This provides "confidence" and a level of "transparency" in the market allowing investors a certain peace of mind that the risks they take and the money they invest will only be affected by market reactions or "the invisible hand" as some call it. Here we have two things, 1) a governing authority that enforces and monitors standards 2) Standards that all businesses operate by. So my questions to you are 1) Does Second Life have a governing authority that enforces and monitors companies operations? 2) Do all business operate by the same standards and provide transparency? There is a ton more to say on this subject. Although, I felt like this would be enough for you to draw your own conclusions. If this doesn't provide some insight into why there isn't more than one company listed on the metaverse stock exchange at SlSolutions then you may need to read a good economics book or maybe visit the site www.sec.gov and read some of the info there. Unless we have similar standards for business operations and governing, their will be no confidence in a stock market. Someone please comment if you feel I have left anything out or provided false information. Thanks, Hunter

I think that the emergence of Financial Services within Second Life (and other virtual reality platforms) is perhaps something to be cautiously encouraged.
However that opinion is subject to caveats, the two major points being virtual legislation enforcement, and that of identity.
In short some of the first life financial rules and regulations may have to be enforced by Linden Labs to guard against fraud.
Another point is that anyone who starts a business based on other people investing money with them should be prepared to loose the right of real life identity protection. In short I should have the right to contact them in first life.
I appreciate these two points are a bit of a departure from current Second Life norms, but after all it is any avatars personal choice to start such a business, or not.
