From: Cabo Gregoire No used islands for sale? Private sims for sale are far in between Demand is overwhelmingly larger than offer here.

Purchasing an island sim
02-23-2006 08:00
An island purchased from ANshe would be more than just buying it from LL. WHen u buy an island you have 8 textures that you can use for the ground and edit the land +/- 100 meters and Anshe does have some very creative Islands builds so you basically pay the premium for a more unique island.
Lets say I was to sell you my island, you would pay whatever the purchase price is and then 100 US to LL for the 'transfer' to your name.
I HAVE heard or renting a sim for a day or for events but it was pretty expensive and I do not know that you would have rights to the land, Now having said that one of the tools is a revert function so it makes sense that you could rent a sim and then the owner can go in afterwards and 'revert' it back to how it was.
THe economics of an island rental? Tier is 195 a month so if u assume that u will have a renter 3 times a week for a total of 12 times a month you would need to charge say 17 US a day for the sim which is 4675 Ls a day at 275 per 1US,
Now that is pretty slim and Im not sure that it would be a winning proposition for an owner to do, Im just throwing numbers out. and why would a renter want to rent a sim and work their butt off to build on the sim just to have it all returned after a day or two? hmm anyway just my 2 cents

From: Cabo Gregoire Does anyone else resell used sims? Seems like I seen something on Anshe's site There are auctions for full islands fairly regularly, but the starting price is generally USD$1,000, so it's not that much different than buying a new sim outright.

all the $1000 auctions i've seen seem to always be mainland sims

Yes the Mainland is compelling. It's where all the groups form. I just typed that with a straight face.

i assumed this thread was dead by now but I still had a few bits to throw around...
I'd want a sim placed onto the mainland. LL is usually willing to do that but it would cost 50 USD to move it. Add the 100 USD to transfer it to me. Auctions sound like a pain now.
I've decided against renting to own a sim from another party. I wouldn't like giving my money to a complete stranger in the hopes that our "contract" was honored and not broken whenever the other guy gets tired of renting to "own" to me. I'd be better off getting a signature loan from my local bank and paying like 6% intrest.
what do you all think

-Lefty Another option would be to form a group of people all interested in having a sim. The only potential issue there is how control is decided. We were fortunate enough to have been in a mainland sim and experienced so many problems, that our club members wanted us to move to an island. We held numerous fundraisers and had an island donation tip jar running. Even created a template of the island in scale so they could see what we were going to do. Took 18 days and we had raised the 350,000 L$ it required to cash out and buy the island (exchange rate was nicer back then).
