In a moment of odd thought, I was wondering - which of these alternatives really makes the most sense?

1) Spending $195/month to own 65532 m2 of Second Life Land, or

2) Spending $171/month to own this?

No, really. Think about it.

Prolly there are gopher holes, or flamingo, or whatever lives in the desert, so that's a wrinkle.

Lisse, there's gotta be a catch to that! :) Ah, found it... it's only ONE ACRE. ;)

it's not on the ater sewer or electric grid. Sure hookups are available for a price....

It's also in the middle of BFE, closest grocery store is like 15 miles, and 1L hasn't implimented flyingor teleporting yet.

Yah, according to the the property features it's 43560 sq. ft. AND it's 1 acre(s) AND it's between 1 and 2 acres - and those THREE features make up 50% of the feature list! Man! I gotta get me this land!

um, the first one?

The 2nd one requires taxes and a straight payment per month.

The first one can be rented, dwell, attractions like casino, games, etc... to generate positive money, and no taxes.

Ah, yes, how right you are. I forget sometimes that people who own whole Sims don't do so solely for the pleasure of living on it.

But, as you mentioned in the other thread, since you are getting a RL real estate license then you must know the value of buying land only to flip it again? no?

Yes, but in this case I really was thinking of buying for residence/pleasure. And flipping land isn't really a viable proposition in First Life, it's more for when you're going to improve the property by adding a structure, or improving an existing structure (oh, hey! That's an idea for SL too! I should do that! Oh, wait, I already do...)

I knew when I posted this that of course the payments aren't for equivalent things - the $171 would be for a mortgage to make the purchase, and of course there are property taxes - and the $195 ignores the purchase price and is in a way a property tax itself, but my rather simplistic thought was:

"If I have about $200 to spend per month, would I rather spend it to own a Sim of virtual land, or an acre of real Arizona desert?"

I'll be owning the desert, thank you :)
