What to do with an empty sim?

Well, after months and months of effort, and hundreds of dollars spent, I've accquired all of the significant land in Clara, sans one parcel. Unfortunately, the last parcel lies dead center in the middle of my land, and and owner has essentially refused to sell. Ever.

But not to be disturbed by major setbacks, I've decided to stop wasting my $200/mo, and do something with the land. My original ideas all require the land in the center of the sim, so I'm gonna turn to the boards on this one and see what the rest of the community thinks.

Personally, I'd like to sell it off. Anyone interested in buying most of an old, fully terraformable sim at very reasonable prices, that would be your cue. I will also consider selling off parts of the sim, should you have something else in mind.

In the meantime, however, what would you do in my situation? Clara is a great sim, terraformable +/- 40m, near Ahern and Natoma, and directly adjacent to Perry(Luskwood) and Boardman (Suburbia). I want to do something with this, but I'm so fed up and exhausted after my failed attempt for that last parcel that I just can't bring myself to think up something big on my own.

So, if no one decides to buy this, perhaps someone out there has some ideas for a nifty use, ideally something that will help counter the $200/mo that I have to spend on it. I've included a map of the sim, I own the red.

Go nuts.

Well, if you're really interested in selling a bit of it, set aside 1100 to 1600m2 next to Boardman (next to one of the roads that end at sim edge) and send me PM or IM to discuss cost. I'm talking such odd sizes as it'd be group-allocated (now that I have a group to allocate to).

Among other things I'd move my Money Tree here. I don't get dwell on my existing (rented) land and could use what dwell I get from the Tree to pump back into it. Also would give new players (maybe) a second look at the older sims.

Just part of one idea, but I know it could help...

With some much land, you could a mall ! And a club in the same theme to go next to it. And a place to play tringo and bingo, with a small open air market next to it.

I'll tell you what NOT to do.
Never start a project without already having the resources for it.
Never even think of starting a project that will require you to kick your neighbors out of the sim, or otherwise bother them.
Large-scale projects are the reason why LL auctions whole simulators and sells private islands.

Yes, quite an assumption to make that your neighbors will move for your benefit.

Aww... i love that sandbox! We've been using it to make houses. Is there any way you could keep part of it as a sandbox?

Turn it into a racing track :) you don't need the piece in the middle.
Then build a mall and an event center near it and rent the track to people to organize racing or racing related events, or organize them yourself :)

Yeah yeah, land..selling - things... whatever. The past is irrelevant, I'm trying to figure out what to do now.

I believe I asked for constructive thoughts, not condemnation.

jungle river safari ride that goes in a loop around the sim.

the biggest donut you ever saw in your life.

ring shaped sand box with a surprise in the center. surprised neighbor anyways......

divide it into four equal pieces and make season themed builds.

Enumerate the best builders in LL and then entice them with free land.

Pave it all in asphalt and set up a huge empty parking lot for the neighbor that doesn't want to sell.

Spent hours playing that game on the Atari 2600. Even found the special dot hidden in the Black castle maze that would let you unlock the easter egg credits screen. :D

First. Wall up the edges around the center property. Make his side a nice sky texture so he doesn't have to look at your build.

Now, you set aside different sectors for different builds. I'd like a little cabin in the woods, or a mountain to sit on like "Fool On The Hill". But that's just me.

Use it to hold Absurd Build contests on a monthly basis. Most absurd/cool build gets to sit on that sector for a week or two for people to come and admire it. Then you nuke it for the next absurd/cool build.

Hmmm?

Question: Is the lone holdout landowner in your neighborhood friendly or cooperative? Is there active hostility, or is he/she just unwilling to sell?

If you do plan a sim-wide project that will affect the look/feel of the sim, would the landowner be willing to compromise on certain small things, perhaps continuity in terraforming? Do you anticipate trouble with them no matter what you build, or do you think that you and they can make nice-nice?

You could build the largest, flashiest club in SL with an even larger skyscaper of a casino next to it.

Then run constant events.

Tee hee.

Why am I not surprised you would jest about an idea like this? :D Hahaha...

You know, it'd actually be funny if there was a hyperbolic, parodic club constructed within (or without) these parameters for the very entertainment of the community. A totally "larger-than-Second Life" structure epitomizing the ends of all of these cliches as have been discussed on the SL Forums an invariable amount of times. Lalala...

A club so glitzy, that it needs A DOZEN MONEY BALLS. ;)

I'd say stick with it... if they won't directly sell.. perhaps ask them if they would like to trade for another lot, more on the fringe of yer land.

For the long gone player theres two basic strategies, if they could be lifetime (aka joined before december 03) you may be in for a long haul but could potentially talk with lindens (especially with the new concierge line which you should be elgible for) about the possibility of moving on contacting that person out of game.

if they aren't lifetime (aka born january 04 or later) jus wait.. i've acquired the lions share of perry and lusk by basically jus waiting everyone else out... patience is a virtue when it comes to working with old sims and potentially cantankerous neighbors
