New(?) anti-inflation idea

How about doing this..

1. End stipends

2. Create another set of money trees that are only usable by premium members and which pay out much more.

3. Open up the existing money-trees to all players, not just the newbies.

This may cause some short-term volatility before the Linden finally stabilizes and I don't know how long that would be, but I do think it would create in the end a very stable currency without need for taxation and such.

What this does is tie the inflow of new money directly to demand, somewhat like having in-game goldmines. If the value of the Linden is high, then sitting around the trees and getting new money will be profitable, but when the supply of money rises and its value falls again, then more profit will be found by selling to other players than by tree-hitting. This will repeat in a neverending cycle, leading hopefully to an eternally-stable $L, the only drawback being more peoplespending (wasting?) time hanging around trees instead of developing new content.

Simple, and no federal-reserve needed. Value of the $L can be altered simply by altering the amount the trees pay out.

1. End stipends

Thats what I consider my personas 'paycheck' take the stipend off, and I, like many others will sell our land and drop back to basic. So LL loses by doing that.

Why are you and your friends(?) are so annoyed about L$ to reach its normal value? There is no deflation atm sl stayed at near 280 for days. And yes there will be a take back for the recent inflation we had.
Why are you so annoyed?

Let me see if I understand this. I pay for the stipend. You want to take it away, and make me spend my time online camping a money tree, and still charge me the same for my premium account. LOL. And these money trees would be located next to big, ugly malls and casinos right? LOL. I don't think so.

I've said this before and I'm gonna say it again. Before you go taking away other people's money to make your own more valuable, why not test your theory to see if it works? How about some of you "the Linden is falling, the Linden is falling" Chicken Littles giving a few million $L to LL to be destroyed. Then wait a few days to see if it has any effect on the value of the $L. If you really believe your theories, put your $L where your mouths are. Step up and save the economy! Have your money destroyed! Or is it just easier to call for LL to reduce the amount of money other people have?

I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what Money Trees are. Money Trees are NOT supported by Linden Labs. They are paid for by SL residents--whether from the account of the Money Tree owner, or via donations. Money trees neither add or subtract L$ from the SL economy.

Paycheck for what exactly? :) I don't perticularly agree with the elimination of stipends. That said, why do you feel entitled to a "paycheck" at the expense of your fellow residents?

From my own perspective as a premium member. When I signed up for premium LL promised me landholding ability of 512m with no aditional tier and 500L a week stipend. I consider that a contract. As such although 500L a week does not really hurt my ability to enjoy the game. The breach of the contract would indeed bother me greatly.

That's really not a problem though. They could adjust that at your next renewal period.

Because we're paying for it. We don't know if eliminating the stipends would have any effect on the value of the $L. We don't have enough economic data to tell. So, as I've suggested before, let's do an experiment. All of you top economic minds who've proposed eliminating the stipends to prop up the value of the $L donate a few million $L to be destroyed. If it raises the value of the $L then you'd at least have a financial leg to stand on.

My suggestion is that LL allow us to pay tier in $L. That would take quite a few $L out of the economy wouldn't it?

I'm not a Chicken Little. I did mention in another post a couple of days ago that I didn't think inflation was any big deal, but some people seem very concerned about it, which is why I posted.

I thought the money from trees that paid-out a certain amount every hour or so did come from LL. My mistake.

I've not suggested that. I was just curious as to what he did for his "paycheck". The best solution has always been and will always be no action and a new "target value" of L$316. I don't propose eliminating stipends. I also don't hold myself out as a "top economic mind". You're thinking of someone else. I'm simply a very concerned virtual economic participant. :)

I assume that this would go hand in hand with NOT adjusting the "target value" away from L$250? This may also work, and would be acceptable to me as a tier payer AS LONG AS LL always accepted the L$ at a rate of L$250 per dollar owed regardless of the current exchange rate. Otherwise, I'd probably still sell L$ and pay in cash.

I disagree and totally Reject your Conservative Work Ethic. Keep the Stipulend as it is infact increase it. Many people do not have the extra cash to spend on LindenX or do they have skills good enought to make things to sell.

No they don't There is absolutly nothing wrong with the economy. The only thing wrong with it is the Conservatives want to model it after the failed policies of Boy George Bush.

Ahhhh but I paid US$ 225.00 for a lifetime account, with the contract that I would get 500 lindens a week for life. I would consider the end of stipulends a breach of contract.

Increasing the stipend wouldn't make people richer, it would just make the value of the $L go down.

Well it is a fictional element of game currency afterall, which they're free to change or remove at any time (see TOS for details). If I were LL, and I were going to remove stipends, I would only remove them at renewal intervals. So, if it were me, I wouldn't touch yours. :) That said, they could probably do whatever they wanted, if they were going to remove stipends. It would be interesting to see the legal battle over $1.71 "worth of" a fictional element of game currency per week though lol. :)

What about allowing (virtually) unlimited number of groups ? Each group has a L$100 creation fee, think of what a sink it could be ;)

LL can create a lot of paying content like this (with a hourly/weekly/monthly fee) :

- Add a special title in the name, like "Lord" "Master" "Slave" "Nooby" ...
- Enhanced "group and name" bubble : custom color, custom texture, custom shape
- Possibility to create a "Group title" for some hours, without creating the group itself.
- Adding special content for buisnessman, like ingame detailed market data, a better account history, more land managment tool, account history deticated to land sale/buy, etc etc etc
