revision 2: rental and buying notecards

unless someone comes up with any suggestions in the next few hours, i'm going to go with the cards as posted:

I oppose this really misguided, one-sided, and biased effort.

You didn't really get group participation, especially from those who actually rent properties to others and have useful advice. You continue the same biased, misguided notion that people who handle land are "evil" and therefore are disqualified from giving advice.

Telling people of a fait accompli in an effort like this, after such a brief discussion with only yourself and your cronies is really a transparent form of coercion. Others will see it as such, "Your Grace".

Honestly, I do hope the Lindens have the good sense not to distribute this vanity project.

I get a good laugh out of the fact that Stoneself and other "helpers" didn't even think to update their "advice" from August 2004 -- August 2004! -- until I published a copy of the card I already give out to tenants and newbies.

I'll go on doing my thing, if anyone wants my card. I don't pretend to be a big public service fo rhte whole community, it's just a card with my advice on it from my company.

I think an authentic advice card project with genuine good will and the desire to educate rather than propagandize still needs to be done. However, it would probably be better accomplished in world among those who actually rent, rather than having people who don't have anything to do with renting posture on the forums as a venue for their usual dubious ideologies.

I don't know Kex, but they seem pretty open to contact. When I'm trying to reach someone, I usually IM them and leave a PM here. It has been a fairly effective method.

A really good and thorough set of cards on topics like this would be a real boon to new players. Kudos for the effort.

Read what Akane put FIRST. So often people tune in very late in one thread, and don't even read what else was put.

She accused me of engaging in "self-interest," though I merely take a beating here and get nothing out of it when I put out a very badly outdated card, a suggested new alternative, and asked for discussion.

StoneSelf used it as a venue for self-aggrendizement. Akane backed him up on that. Pretty evident for all to see.

Akane got off a few lobs before this in another thread.

So when I tell Akane where to get off, and announce I"ve got her number, trust me, it's not me being nasty and vindictive, it is merely self-defense, and stating the obvious.

I have a couple of nice cards from Kex. Good information, well presented. Thanks a lot Stone for taking the time to put all this information together.

It's called 'projection', Juro. Someone hears or reads something and proceeds to identify themselves as being that 'something'. A more pointed method of telling the world, 'This is how I perceive myself' you cannot find. Anytime you see someone reacting like this, you may as well parse what they're saying as, "I am X, and I dislike that this person has said so out loud."

*Of course* she's accusing me of having self-interest speaking when I do a card, and *of course* by her suck-up praise of StoneSelf she's making a back-handed whack at me and accusing me of being self-interested -- it's definitely there, and we all know it's not a question of being a paranoid freak (as the forum harpies often try to claim), it's a question of being able to undertand the forum gaming all too well, and it's a question of being able to call people roundly on their bullshit.

You can keep pretending it's not there but we all know that when someone makes a smarmy suck-up comment like that in a thread with two people's competing ideas in it, that accusation in there is very thinly veiled.

The whole technique on the forums is to make an attack but disguise it in various classic ways so that the forum mods can be stumped.

You see, it's precisely my ability to stand up to those subtle, bitchy little innuendos on the forums that earns me scorn from a certain minority but has others applauding.

Could you cite either concrete names, or at least concrete actions done by "others" that made you conclude that StoneSelf was acting "not of self interest" (as bogus as the day as long) but out of "selfless altruism for all mankind"?

If you *didn't* mean me, then I'd expect an apology like:

"Oh, I'm sorry, Prok, I didn't mean you. That was thoughtless of me."

or

"Oh, I'm sorry, Prok, I didn't mean to imply you were self-interested in what you do, that wasn't my intent."

Trust me, Juro, I see through the forums game. The way posters get around the mods is by "implying" and having "plausible deniability" in their accusations. I see through it. I call it. It's there to be seen.

You're SO right. I do know what's going on here.

I'm not quite clear where the final final draft of your notecard is, as this thread and its companions keep getting derailed, probably consciously by ykw (you know who).

The last one I read had one big defect in my opinion. It was strangely reticent to issue a clear warning on one of the biggest dangers facing the innocent. The mis-description of private island rent/lease arrangements as sales.

This is particularly important as the leading miscreant has publicly stated she intends to continue this misrepresentaion in all her adverts, in defiance of SL.
