From: riley Muir (EDITED) Here's my question... Who keeps people happy in Second Life? Happy enough for them to go out and tell their friends they should join SL. Not the land moguls... The club owners and malls designers are what truly make this game worth playing. The fact that they [the land moguls] are even on the list is beyond me. They make their money buying and selling land. The entertainment groups bring people here to buy their land, yet as a club we make near nothing. The "rev" was created not as a way to make money, that was never our intent, but for a place for people to have fun with the hopes that dwell would cover part of the tier. But it seems that Linde Lab is more intersted in filling their own pockets than making a truly good game. Took me about 5 minutes to re-parse that, but NOW it makes sense. I really didn't understand what Riley was saying until I was done. Sorry that it takes a bit more effort to make a point here, Riley, but it's true. To answer the comment, I'd like to point out that the players that own a LOT of land in the course of buying and selling it to make a profit have, in the past, put that land to use in the meantime to provide public meeting places and the like. As the land market's profit margins have gotten slimmer of late, some have diversified into other interests, which has provided more traffic. I'm personally of the impression that the calculation used to get a plot on the Popular Places list is different from the one used to build the DI awards list. The difference (IF any) seems to be related to the number of different people that visit over the course of each month, and not just the total dwell time.

What if the developer's incentive paid for the amount of people to attend an event. I mean even if you have a community that just hangs out in the same place, you could hold an event just to qualify for the incentive. Is it really right for people with empty plots to be getting part of this money. How am I as a owner of many empty plots going to get people to attend an event at an empty plot? They would show up, see nothing, and leave. Wouldn't events be a better measure of how many people a place can attract?
