From: Yumi Murakami But what about the 30,000 prim "city" sims that have been on SL for over a year now? Right. Kyrah got it - LL used half the land to build low prim infrastructure, then used the bonus prims to give everyone a little boost. Technicly a sim CAN be any prim allotment, but for performance reasons, LL don't sell them as such - higher prim sims come by shaving prims off elsewhere.

They'd need to pull the resources from sims directly connected with that Sim one where a child agent would be able to appear. This effect perfromance for that one sim regardless of it and really while they could technically be any alottment of prims the hardware to back up a heavier alotment then what is around comes into play. While they may have more prims go to that sim with 30,000 or telador for that matter and look at the performance from using up the extra prims. When half my hair vanishes in a Sim and doesnt come back there are definately issues with uping the prim limit without upgrading hardware.
As stated numerous times though Textures can make a world of difference and if someone is handy with them they can get the desired effect without using numerous prims. If one can show depth in a picture it can easily be done on a texture. Textures are the same as any artistic expression and as such some people can get an effect while others cant. You can buy packs of premade textures. Personally i like to do my own because for one its cheaper and two i know what im actually getting and not paying for stuff in a big pack that im really not going to use.
I could go on about prim allotment vs hardware. Look at it this way. Servers that LL own support somewhere between 2-4 sims some sims have their own server which occasionally can have a bit of water land around them in which case the person can technically buy up that excess as well. In some cases they could pull resources from the other sims but still the amount of objects rezzed in 1 area can have an effect on people. Same can go if a sim is overly scripts and has less prims tough. The 15k limit is there so the sim can still perform what it needs to with people actually in the sim.
Yumi another side point while there may be higher prim cities sims or something to that extent go to that sim see if the performance is there that is what im getting at here. They may have a higher limit but that is not neccessarily a good thing. All im saying is the limits are there for a reason and will increase as they are able to.

the detail is that peoples that own a sim are gonna be very unwilling to give you more resources from their

I KNOW I can use textures....but it just isnt as nice looking - I DO use my 10x10m to the max. I did buy more land...but after a bit - people arent going to just sell you their properties in YOUR sim just so you can have more prims - I like my neighbors! I just bought a 1024 JUST so I could put On a Roll (dice game) on it - that thing is 142 prims! I like the look of RL bracing and an engineeringly sound build - I built so it wouldnt LOOK like it was defying gravity or being held together by magic. I know there are low prim buildings, but that isnt what I want to build. I dont want to turn my head and have walls blink in and out and look fuzzy, and appear to be 2D. This wasnt a post about me not being experienced with building, I can build - I just choose not to do it with fake items that you can walk thru. (Textures) it was about hindering creativity due to prim limits is all. If you came and saw my place - you would agree that my support braces and poles and beams WORK for the design...and it would look a bit odd without them. I dont have walls - it is all open. Some would say a few of the areas could be a texture on a flat rectangle, that had an alpha....but - yuk!!!!

How about using a temp-on-rezz device to handle all the little things, like plants, photos on the wall and wine glasses sitting on the table? They can add a lot of charector to a place i find..
Oh god! i posted on the forum! going back to lurking again now..

Theres a software and hardware reason for prim limits. Don't steal prims from your neighbours by using temp-on-rez.

you must like dice.

I don't mean to sound judgemental - it's your land, your money, etc... but in the same way I didn't understand my late father playing solitaire on a $1000 US computer, I don't understand a dice game that takes 142 prims. No disrespect intended, I simply don't understand it. When they pull the grid back up, I'm going to find this dice game you have and check it out. I mean, I'm sure it's cool and everything, and I appreciate that you enjoy it... but I just don't understand.

I'm sure there's a tolerance built into the system, and I'd really like to know how they came up with the prims/m^2 number, but still. Man it's tempting though, sometimes. I ran out of prims FAST on my land!

Never, I needed more prims than I had, neither when I had 512, nor now when I have many times more. Interestingly , I always ran short of "LAND" and not prims; and I d be happy to trade some prims if LL gives me more land spread. I wonder when people complain about prims, maybe they are using stuff from really bad builders...hehe

Granted, I took the glass out of my house. Come see if you want! Just saying...I was hoping for such as some accessories, like a BBQ set, and some wiggle room to work on little projects. There are always more things you can do, and never enough prims in which to do them. --Matt Who Still Prefers Nice Looking Higher-Prim Stuff

Its far more likely that if one person uses it in the sim, someone else is, and so on.. Which leads to massive resource lag and time dilation.

Exactly. If everybody did it, we'd be screwed. Who doesn't want more prims for free? Problem is the 'something for nothing' crowd is often the 'something for nothing and screw the consequences' crowd, or more likely 'I know the consequences but screw everybody else anyway, so long as I'm ok, but I really appreciate everybody else playing by the rules so I get what I want!" Then, THEN they go and blow it all on something stupid, like a 143-prim dice game, or a bed with 14 throw pillows and 18 pose balls (But no 'just sleep' ball. That would be silly) or or...one of those lame-looking but ludicrously expensive transparancy-texture cars that you can sometimes see clear through in spots but they want to keep it out all the time so they can pretend to be on MTV Cribz or something. GOD! They don't even DRIVE well.
