so here i am reading the forums for my daily chuckle and as usual, tons of threads about whiners crying over who should get priority to the grid and cry about getting rid of free accounts.
so let me break it down for you....
in real life we all go to work, yes there is traffic hour so does that mean a person who owns their car has more rights to the road than the person who cabs it or busses it in to work? no, it doesn't.
does it mean the person who owns their house on the street is entitled to the cable/hydro company first than the person who rents their home? no, again it doesn't.
in real life you don't get priority over anyone nor should you.
if you want to "wah wah the lag" and "wah wah i pay tier" quit the game and stop playing. let those who truly enjoy sl get priority on the grid. so what the new guy didn't pay or isn't prem, in a yrs time when sl is kicking ass they could be the one paying alot more than the average 10 prem residents. quit crying already.
do tell me, for those who enjoy crying over "the world isn't perfect, i'm gonna have a tantrum" why do you keep playing sl if you hate it so much? when i started 8k was huge and ya over the yrs things happen just like accidents and illnesses. how bout stfu play if you want and if you wanna rant & rave cause your lagged or you don't like the casino's & clubs put up around your land, buy your own island. in real life you don't like where you live you move, simple as.
so ya redirect the thread where you like or shut it down, i really don't care. any whining post in future i'm just going to keep reporting bad post on it anyway. lindens have enough to deal with than read through these petty complaints. let them get to real work that they get paid to do.

That is elitist bullshit, and completely without merit. It also kinda proves the OP's point about whiners a little bit, huh?

This thread's initial post does not contain a feature suggestion, containing simply complaints about other user's posting behavior.

The comment about using the
Bad Post Icon seems quite appropriate.

People who enjoy forums where exchanging negative comments about the other forum participant's personalities and posting styles might want to investigate the forums at secondcitizen.com, where such behavior is held in high regard.

I'd just like to add that I asked a couple ResMods and Torley Linden about this - reporting bad posts really does work; it just takes a little time to move through the system. If something needs more urgent attention, you can private message one of the ResMods after you file your report.

...Your suggestion is along the lines of "Only people with blue eyes in real life can create accounts."

Maybe it has merit, but how do you enforce it?

It's a useless suggestion.

no thats what the bad posts are saying but you obviously are missing the point behind this thread along with many others

what LL really needs to do is have the lindens or res mods shut down all posts that have complaints about how bad secondlife is. it really looks bad to new players reading the forums before actually joining. and afterall why would a new player want to sign up and pay right away when all they see is "omg you guys suck, do your work right, your game sucks shit blah blah"
everyone wants to see something in return which nobody seems to understand that in rl just as we pay to work believe it or not and pay for everything else...guess what, thats life and ya it sucks at times but deal with it. i won't lie....i been reporting bad posts on all threads that have to do with complaints on how bad they think the game is. if the game is so bad, quit playing and let lindens deal with real players.
so ya call it a useless suggestion but maybe a linden out there will think about what i'm saying and shut down any post that has any negative remarks on the game. i personally want my sl with real people not people that think they are perfect and better than myself cause in the real world life is only as perfect as you live it. greed and selfishness never gets you by in life.....ever.

Sooo....the forums become a game of Paranoia.

If you are unfamiliar with the game, it works like this:
You are a mutant with special powers belonging to a secret society and your job is to obey the will of the Computer--you are one of its Troubleshooters (you find trouble, you shoot it). Treason is the one and only crime and is punishable by death (you became a troubleshooter by turning in a traitor).
Being a trouble shooter you have access higher than the general public and are no longer pumped full of drugs that keep everyone happy.
The following is a list of treasonous acts:
Being accused of treason
Falsely accusing someone of treason
Being a mutant
Being a member of a secret society
Carrying an item that is restricted to higher access levels
Breaking or losing equipment (being an R&D lab rat can be bad)
Posession of a leathal weapon
Lieing to the computer
Questioning the computer
Religion of any sort
Not following the Computer's orders
Not being happy

Replace "Computer" with "Linden Labs" and that's what you're asking for.

I don't like seeing negative posts that serve no real purpose either; but positive feedback about a negative experience is necessary to keep the game in gear. If you coat your complaint with honey I think Linden Labs will take it in much easier. I'm glad that we have feedback forums and blog comments. Of course some people get a little rant and rave happy especially on the blog; but I have to admit some of these posts amuse me. I don't blame some of them if they've lost a good deal of money or time; some people need a place to vent. I'm sure Linden Labs would rather see a little complaining instead of a customer never coming back. I think the moderators already do a good job to filter out the really inappropriate material.

If you have a free account, don't worry about not being able to log in during peak times. That blog post is nothing to be afraid of. http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/02/16/contingency-measures-to-ensure-service-as-second-life-grows/
Nothing is set in stone; they haven't even said this will happen for sure. Even if it does you can get payment info on file by spending a small amount of money on the Lindex and your account will never be blocked when it is very busy on the grid. Not to mention accounts already logged in will not be logged out by Linden Labs and they said they will only engage in this login capping when lots of data could be lost. In those cases we usually all get kicked off, lol. Anyways, it seems ironic to me to open the flood gates and allow free accounts. Then, to block them off when the system cannot handle them all? These are all new accounts; I wouldn't throw my credit card numbers at this game right away either. Maybe not for a month; I don't recall how long it took, lol.

yes, i totally agree with you there, FEEDBACK not "omg the world revolves around me damnit!" "nothing is rezzing right get rid of unverifieds right now"
when has bitching at customer service ever improved your situation? sorry but it hasn't, if anything they ignore you till you cool off and have half a brain to talk to them. feedback isn't negative. bitching is pathetic. so it's really all simple.....quit bitching, play the game if you want and yes give FEEDBACK not tantrums just cause your hair is in your ass. i mean really how hard is it to take off and put on again? omg what hard work it is to click the mouse again.....rolls eyes. have you never had a bad hair day in real life? or your car breaking down on the way to work. maybe your kid getting sick or injured at school and ya had to go get them? everyone has setbacks & yes that includes LL.
i bet the guy down the street who is to sick to get out of bed and log on isn't complaining about it....i'm sure he has better things to do then cry over "omg my sex gen is out of synch, get rid of the free accounts so i can watch my toon have sex"

The incessant whining and bitching and complaining is why LL has pulled back from general contact with the SL userbase, shut down Linden Answers, and so forth.

I have seen this happen before.. with text-based bulletin board systems and various games. At first the coder is bubbling over with ideas for the world and the new users of the new world are like "Wow, keep it up dude!"

After a while the people coming in see the world as it is and like it.... and they don't want it to change. Even though it IS a work in progress and always was. It's just that later features take longer to develop and put into place. The users coming in start to like the crusty old beast and start to resist further change.

This is LL's problem right now. There is a userbase on here who have come to like the way the world was even though it has always been in flux and will continue to be for the forseeable future.

The biggest whiners and bitchers are those who have tried to develop businesses on top of the shifting sands of something that is explicitly described as unfinished. Is it LL's fault that your business model fails because the environment isn't as stable as you were thinking, before you invested thousands of your own money into something you KNEW wasn't finished to begin with?

At this point LL has had its developers steamrolled and burned and fried and baked and seared by irate users so many times that they are moving into the next phase of operations..... which is to build up a very thick skin and continue on with the development anyway, in spite of the whiners and the bitchers.

You see it every time a Linden does a blog post about some new development and it is followed up by someone who obviously didn't read the post at all but is just using it as an opportunity to bitch out an LL employee for some apparantly unresovable problem that doesn't have anything to do with what the developer is talking about, and they seem to be demanding an instant fix for whatever it is, by that Linden, NOW.

Probably a customer service buffer layer may eventually be brought in to shield the LL developers, and those people will be paid to field the endless abuse that the now irate general userbase hurls at any Linden who innocently happens to wander by.
