Not sure how difficult this would be. But would like to see skirts for our Avatars, like our other clothes are. Not just having to make them from objects.

From using Poser for several years, I can tell you that skirts are a trickier issue than they seem. Especially animating someone walking in one. Even now in Poser, skirts need two seperate 'morphs' for sitting and standing. For a long time, skirts were imperfect, and I think people stayed away from them when it came to animation. So I can see why the Lindens haven't implemented this yet. It's so easy for it to look bad, and quite tricky for it to work.
Attaching prims would be pretty close to how a skirt actually works in a program like Poser. Seperate modeled pieces attached to different body parts, with shaders in between. (I believe, I'm no programmer) Also, standing still is one thing, but a moving/running/flying/dancing avatar in a skirt, is a whole other kettle of fish. It requires a lot of cloth movement, which is still something the 3D realm hasn't really managed to capture. And a Linden can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd think the shaders involved in creating the movement of a long skirt could end up taking up a lot of processing power. |
