I don't wish to base strong opinions. I would have arguing from both sides. I see it as an 'idea' we could try. I wouldn't trust just anybody with it. I agree the current AR/Ban system is a joke. 14 day suspension and they come back and continue... Theres probably only 2 ways to handle this.

1. Hold actual humans accountable for their actions, and
2. Establish a chain of responsibility for EVERY account.

Get rid of "free" accounts as they now exist. Every account should be tied to a credit card, and the holder of that credit card is responsible for the account. I've suggested a "sponsor" scheme that would make this work AND still let people join for "free".

The problem with your system is that it is indistinguishable from a popularity contest. Who watches the watchers? Who decides who is trusted to police? Where is the oversight?

Sure it can be. Lindens aren't gods, they're barely Ringworld Engineers, and it's possible for them to actually be *wrong* about things like this.

Believe it or not, the company that runs SL is a... company. Which implies they are trying to make money. How many people do you think will join, and buy lindens to help pay for the game to be kept up if they know they can be held personally responsible if they annoy someone on the internet?

This crap "secret police" rubbish is only counter productive, and the best way to handle it is just to stick with bans.

WWWWEEELLLL, not all free accounts are bad, I had a free account to try out SL, like hell if I was going to attach my card to a game I haven't been in for about a week or 2.

SL was created to be a place where you could live out your fantacy, make money, be creative, and socialize. But look what this did to it... It's turned into a First Person Shooter with a very bad physics system thats widely abused. This is not what i signed up for... yes i know the problem has always existed, but its become 100 times worse since 6/6/6.

That's precisely what I'm talking about. If you misbehave, you get suspended or banned. Not "your alt gets banned", every account on that credit card gets banned. That's what "holding the owner of the card accountable" means.
