Dunno if this has been mentioned or not before but the ability to invert mouselook would be great! It's more or less what most gamers are used to and to go back and forth between games can be a little disorientating.
All there should be is just a checkbox for inverted mouselook.
Thanks!

I absolutely agree.
The second thing I'd like is the ability to strafe when NOT in mouselook mode, e.g. I'd like to set the 'q' and 'e' keys for strafing with the traditional asdw movement system.

This would be really easy to add, too.

Wow, that's something I usually notice. I must be so into the game that it hasn't bothered me yet. I hate not having inverted mouse on... just not natural.

From: someone It's more or less what most gamers are used to and to go back and forth between games can be a little disorientating. I'm a gamer. I know a lot of gamers. None of us likes inverted mouselook. DAoC doesn't use it, Everquest doesn't use it, Half Life only has it as an option that by default is disabled as do most other games. Exactly how is 'moving your mouse down to look up' more 'natrual?'

Exactly how is 'moving your mouse down to look up' more 'natrual?' Most FPS players I've known enable it, including myself. I think it originally comes from flight simulators where the mouse can mimic a joystick (which means pushing forward causes nose-down). Or possibly, it's because tilting one's head forward looks down. Either way, it's very common, easily implemented and should be supported.

I'm all for more options, I can see them adding in a custom key re-maping feature and maybe a custom mouse re-maping or whatever if thats possible.
Wouldn't hurt anything to add the options.
There is: C:\Program Files\SecondLife\app_settings\keys.ini
However I'm not sure if editing that will actualy do anything or work, you can give it a try for the strafing though and see what happens.

I use it because I played flight/space sims before FPSes. Also, pushing the mouse forward is like pushing your head down, and pulling the mouse back is like pulling your head up. I dunno. It makes sense to me. ^_^

Exactly how is 'moving your mouse down to look up' more 'natrual?' I've been gaming since I was 7, ok that's 19 years of gaming. I first started FPS with Wolfenstein 3D which of course didn't use mouselook. The first game I played with mouselook was Quake 1 I believe, since that time my mouselook has been inverted. It's no more better than not having it inverted, it just feels more comfortable to most of us. In fact of all the games I've played first person or even third person (since we are name dropping): Duke Nukem 3D, Half-Life, Counterstrike beta 3.2 and up, Everquest, Quake 1 2 3, Unreal 1, UT, UT 2003, Battlefield 1942, MOHAA, Spearhead, Breakthrough, Anarchy Online, Planetside... just to name a few, I've played them all inverted. In fact every clan, outfit, group, gaggle of players that I've been in everyone used inverted. I've only known one person who doesn't, my brother... and let me tell you he HATES coming to my house to play any kind of FPS... "GRRR, you have it backwards again!" =D Now it's funny how a majority of games that are out now especially FPS are default inverted mouselook. This is the only game that I have ever seen that does not have that function.... even :gag: There :gag: has it. -Satai Diaz

Since we seem to want to turn this into a pissing contest.... I've been gaming since before mice were part of the equation. I don't know anyone who actually uses this feature. (In fact, among the gamers I know we all universally despise it.)
If people want to go ahead and add it as an option.... go for it. But there are higher priority issues with SL atm... and enabling it by default would be a lousy idea.

In your opinion, oh and of the millions of gamers that you know..... Although you are the only one here who doesn't like it. Like I said there isn't any better way of using it, it's all up to the user. Oh and you know 7 people now that use it, might want to put our names up there with the "gamers that you know".

My friend you are having major delusions of grandeur if you think everyone doesn't like this and they only think like you. Sounds like someone needs a reality check. You say you are older than me but you're acting like my 6 year old daughter. Lighten up.

As I've said.... if people want to add this go ahead.... just don't make it the default, because having to disable it is annoying for the majority of people.
That's a bit different from 'OOOOOO EVERYBODY DOES THIS YES THEY DO YES THEY DO YES THEY DO!!!!!!!'

That's a bit different from 'OOOOOO EVERYBODY DOES THIS YES THEY DO YES THEY DO YES THEY DO!!!!!!!' I would ask that you don't slander but I doubt that would get my anywhere since you know everything. I'll just end this little issue by saying I never said everyone prefers it, I said (just like you did) the gamers I knew did. There's no reason to lose your temper or to get all flustered, it's just a forum post. Lindens, thank you for your attention. Please include inverted mouselook in future releases.

Lindens, thank you for your attention. Please include inverted mouselook in future releases. I haven't lost my temper once... if you and 'the majority of gamers' want this... I'm sure eventually it'll probably get added. And both of you will be very happy. In the meantime I suspect LL has more important issues to be working on.... like new sims, custom anims, and other things people will actually use. ** edited to add ** By the way... outrageous accusations aside.... slander is spoken. Libel is written.

Corwin,
<<I haven't lost my temper once..>>
Perhaps not, but every single one of your posts in this thread has been unpleasant and aggressive.
If, as you say, you haven't lost your temper, then perhaps you should look objectively at the way you express yourself.

Hm...okay ya'll...chill.
It's an okay feature. I wouldn't use it (maybe I'd want it for vehicles only, so that should be part of the preference setting) but I'm willing to bet that it would be quite trivial to implement.

I have to agree ojn the inverted mouse thing. Granted myan people dont use it, but Long time FPS gamers DO. The original FPS games that supported mouse like Duke Nukem3d were inverted. Once people played that for months and the next game came out, they used that checkbox to select inverted mouse. So I for one have been playing games with inverted for MANY years and would love the support. This is very true when I log off SL and run BF1942. It really sucks with i want to shoot someone and accidentally end up looking at my feet.
