[1] Error handling of any kind in LSL! Why oh why oh why oh why is it not possible to detect when an object is spamming with an error? All I wanna do is be able to detect it and reset the script! Return me an error code, dammit! (and... why can an object with a listener NOT HEAR ITSELF?!)
[2] Scrap the rating system altogether. Bring back voting booths. [3] ability to write to notecard. I want. I need. Oh. or alternatively Kex's #3. Or both, preferably. _____________________

1. Better performance. Less lag. Ability to hold 100 av's per sim
2. Better inventory management. Multiple item copy/paste to folders. Quicker inventory loading. 3. NPC's, custom animations |

1. llWrite2Notecard(). I want to be able to store, edit, and write data in-world so I don't have to waste bandwidth everytime I change data.
2. Linked-build XML importing/exporting. I want to be able to extract parsable, geometric data from SL. This has the double-sided benefit of allowing us to really own our builds as well as the ability build translators for other 3D software. 3. Better AV posing. I want to be able to pose my AVs in erotic and combat poses. Edit: Edited for clarity, and changed #3. _____________________

1) Persistant prim-based data storage
2) Scrap the rating system 3) EDIT: GetParcel stuff (BTW, a listener hearing itself would break SO many scripts. Please DON'T give the Lindens more ideas on how to break LSL. PLEASE. Just make a prim that bounces messages back.) _____________________

Your suggestion simply wouldnt work for my purpose. One or the other... error codes or any kind of return that we can use, or let my prim listen to themselves spout errors so I can ask it to kill itself! _____________________

Ability to create basic hud for games. A simple multiline persistent textbox would suffice (llDialog is sooo close!) |

Fine for you, Mole, not fine for me. Your suggestion simply wouldnt work for my purpose. The MOMENT anything like objects hearing themselves happens, we'd have a MASSIVE number of scripts out there go into a set of exponentially increasing infinite loops, that would eventually crash most sims. Bad. Idea. Return values, sure, whatever. I don't care, as long as it doesn't change the ALREADY EXISTING code we have. Every time LL changes code that ALREADY EXISTS, problems occur. I still don't understand why you can't have a prim listen for error messages and send out a !die command if it hears any. After all, an object listening to itself won't be able to kill itself if any LSL errors crop up, so you MUST be talking about error message you yourself have coded in. Be able to lock down your land What do you mean? I can keep people from terraforming MY land... _____________________

distance
04-06-2004 14:10
I only have 2 days under my belt but I have some suggestions.
1. A separate render terrain distance with detail falloff. the world looks great and I don't mind not being able to see buildings 4 miles away, but I would like to have the ground extend much farther so that I don't get vertigo. hehe, if it ommitted trees buildings and the like outside of your your draw distance and let you set the render distance of the ground all the way up to 512 (with lower lod the farther away it is) it shouldn't slow down performance much and it would look much better. 2. A script section that executes when you enter a no script zone. lol, no this is not a paradox. it could be limited length or limited time, and disable loops, whatever the powers that be deem most effective, but it would allow say, animated wings to close, pets to go to sleep, holsterable weapons to be holstered. 3. A mirroring tool so I can mirror a linked object (or even a primative I suppose) to make an identical opposite object. I tell ya the first time I built something (a set of wings) I build one side first and then discovered there's no good way to make a matching other side unless you'd build both at the same time side by side. Those are my three ![]() |

Uh... just because you dont understand why it wont work for me doesnt mean that it isnt the case ![]() If you want to understand why, look me up in world and I'll explain. And no, I am talking about that stupid 'trying to animate' spam that for some reason the Lindens thought everyone in the vicinity would want to hear. What I wanted, in lieu of any error handling, is to have a second script in the same prim that listens for that message and resets the other script. And to reiterate, Mole.... this would not work in any other prim at all for the purposes I am using it for, no matter how many times you suggest it. LOL _____________________

It would be nice to have the ability to recall objects to your inventory like in that *other* on-line world. Sometimes you inadvertantly drop objects and are unable to retrieve them because they are too small or you are too clumsy (which is my case), or you go for a ride, find a great spot and decide to explore it by foot only to realize you have no clue where you are or where your vehicle is.
Also, I guess in that same train of thought, being able to go back to the last place you were at before you teleported elsewhere would be really nice for us easily distracted folks ![]() Now... what was I doing before I sat here? ![]() |

1) A better or more detailed orientation for new users. The day I joined SL I had no idea what I'm supposed to do when I first got dumped on the main world map, or even any detailed recommendations as to what I *could* do. Some tutorials would be great for new people.
2) One or more world-wide chat channels, especially a "Help" one for people who have questions where people are willing to answer them, even in the middle of the night.. Most games have this, why not here? 3) Keyboard re-configuration. I don't like some of the defaults, and there doesn't seem to be any obvious way to change them. |

#1: keepin up to date with and workin with ati an makin sl nice nice for we 'other half' gamers
#2: doing *SOMETHING* to the rating system so i can show my displeasure at someones' actions or builds without them hammeing me back 3x as hard simply out of spite (such as people who buy land that jus turns public from someones' good wishes and immediately setting it for sale for $10 per sqm bah ![]() #3: L$1 for every single time someone in SL says that i have no right to avoid 'adult' content just because i'm 'over 18' _____________________

Higher prim limit for physical objects
Custom animations (should be able to continue until stopped) More modeling shape/deformation options _____________________

1. Archived account history with query functions (stats by item, stats by buyer, item sales by parcel/sim, with user configurable query time periods)
2. Better inventory management with search functions 3. Ability to set a time offset for event times so they display correctly for people who don't live in PST 4. Ability to save gesture setups with avs _____________________

1) Allowing setting the frequency a sound plays at, thus allowing us to (somewhat) easily construct/play music without spamming out 200 preload requests and the need to download 300 megs of audio. Basically something like
llPlaySoundFreq(key/string sound, float volume, float frequency) 2) More forms of groups: As SL becomes more "commercialized" and the invent of paying $US cash for land, etc. there arises a need for more controls in setting up the governmental structure of groups. If someone founds a company based group, and pays $200 for some group land, they should have the right to beable to protect their investment by removing the "vote and remove" abilities we have now. Likewise, there should be options to prevent other officers from switching land someone pays a hoard for to their own behind the other group officer's backs. In the real world, this is prevented by laws. In SL, there needs to be somehow to enforce contracts/agreements between members of a group, and I believe this would be an option. 3) Obstaining till I have a pressing issue. |

1) Close the flow of RL money into SL. Scrap auctions, and bring back public land. Let's make SL a place which can be enjoyed equally by everyone, instead of a place to show-off your RL wealth and a target for financial exploitation. Yes, I know that the current system has become a significant source of revenue for LL. But in the long-term, this will be the death of Second Life. There are more productive and less socially destructive avenues for revenue.
2) Freeze the feature fish. Put development of new features for 1.4 on hold until the current major technical problems are fixed. LL is a small company, with limited resources. Significant progress on problems such as ghosting, lag, and ATI compatibility, will do a hell of a lot more good than Havok, or XML-RPC, or whatever. The sound of crashing sims is getting old. 3) Scrap Dwell. It's been both a technical and social failure. Let's stop pretending that time spent loitering is synonymous with approval. And let's stop pretending that the technical problems in measuring Dwell can ever be fixed. Give us cool-looking, tamper-proof, farm-proof Voting Stations. 3, again) Local Inventory management. Thanx for a great thread Kex... ![]() _____________________

Is everything here really TOP 3 features or are we just sneaking in minor features we want to see? I figured these would all be major things like physics improvements but some stuff here is just really...specific. Cheaters!!!

Honestly I could care less about physics improvements, or XML-RPC, or ATI improvements. The three things I listed are the three things I really want to see. XML-RPC MIGHT be useful, but I can work without it, and have no projects that have a pressing need for it. GetParcel info though? Yeah, I need that so I don't crash sims or eat up everyone's prim counts.
