MMORPG-over-SL Toolkit, stored in SourceForge.
Basically, need two things:
- SL needs to be effectively a runtime to stand a good chance of getting the project accepted by SourceForge
- if one day we all migrate to a different platform, need to be able to shift/port the code to it
Good points/bad points for Linden: bad point first: letting users retain IP rights means that users can port their toolkits to other platforms as and when; good points: it encourages people to devote *substantial* quantities of their time for free to develop stuff that makes their world stand out.
As it stands, LSL is quite unique and wouldn't be easy-peasy to port, but I'd like the option, and it will make it much easier to get experienced developers on-board.
Bottom-line, having to port the project to a different platform at some point is a major risk, and removing IP boundaries reduces this risk to a purely technical one.

WOW, talk about responsive to user needs. What other company has changed their TOS just to get ONE user back!

Nice... and looks like we got a couple of Slashdot articles on SecondLife into the bargain!
As Cory said, Linden was going to do this anyway, but the thread was nice timing.
What has been achieved is:
- Linden have explicitly stated that GPL-type licences are possible on LSL code,
- Slashdot has given an implicit thumbs-up to the current ToS, to the extent that no-one pointed out any potential problems with it,
- I can show SourceForge the Slashdot thread if I need to provide evidence for LSL GPL-eligibility
- lots of potential SecondLife developers know about the existance of the game and the possibility of writing code for it on a GPL-basis
As a rather nice side-effect, there are articles on SecondLife in SlashDot, Gamespot and a little bit everywhere. Some good publicity for the game!
