People have a point; "well, how was I supposed to know you were busy." Try teaching a class when three people are trying to find out if you are available, and getting frustrated and insulted because you're not responding. It put me in a damn rotten mood yesterday and it came out in the class.

My AFK/Busy message:
"Hello! I'm busy with (whatever) until (whenever) and am in no way responding to ANY scripting/building questions. Please don't send another message, including "sorry". Thank you.

IMs, or group chat, in busy mode, isn't a bad idea. I never use busy because it shuts off the entire world...though since I never use it I'm no expert on it.

YES PLEASE this needs to happen. As a mentor I have the same issue.

I am at both ends of this issue. I love to IM people, but, I hate when people (newbies) IM me. It would be nice to know which people I can and cannot IM, and, it would be nice to be able to put a busy flag on so that newbies wont IM me either.

A busy flag that does != MUTE ALL.

I've asked for a visual indication (in my inventory calling cards and in the new IM list) for when someone is in busy or afk mode) -- I'd like to see your afk/busy auto-response too.

Or perhaps an additional mode is in order:

Unavailable to chat (im): this would allow all general chat, but would suppress all IM's, sending back your custom response to the initiator.

Relax. I want this too. However bumping it 4 times in one day (at least once at only a 10 min interval from last post), on a Sunday, in the middle of a 3 day holiday weekend, I do not think will help. seriously. Start bump spamming on Tuesday or sometime.

this was discussed by LL some time ago - I'm glad you all agree. I know I could use it when I run events. I'll mention again from this side; definitely start bumping tuesday. =p

I hate to add to the ToDo list this close to release, (would have said it sooner if I hadn't had to wait for the OPEN beta!) but is there someway to have the system simply announce to me that "Suchandsuch has sent you an IM, and they have been informed that you are Busy."?

Perhaps I'm too nre to know the trick, but the only time I used AWAY, I forgot (concentration on thetask at hand) that I had set AWAY. So, I spent half a day wondering why people were being so rude. Finally, someone rezzed a panel with a texture saying "YOU HAVE BUSY SET!"

I'm all for this myself. Especially since people have started asking me scripting questions.. when I know very little about scripting for the most part. <grins> Building. I can do building.

Anyway, yes. Documentation on the Find People, in the calling cards, on the IM list.. would be splendid in joint with the ability to set an away message.

Just because I am BUSY doesn't mean I don't want IMs, or I don't want people in front of me to talk to me. Being able to set this either way would be wonderful.

So now I can bump to my heart's content. Hope that's ok Ama.

I refuse to set busy mode, because I don't want people to think I'm ignoring their IM's. Give us a busy response, please.

No joke, Ama. My allergist made me do this one test three separate times, because it kept reporting me as being asthmatic or almost asthmatic. (Dunno the name of the test, but it's where you have to blow into the tube and make the ball float up).

So to get this back on topic <g> --- we want:

1. A customizable busy response -- gets sent automatically to anyone who IM's us when we're in busy mode

2. A new mode: unavailable for IM -- still see all general chat; anyone who IM's us while in this mode would receive busy response (*I* want this one, anyway)

3. Visual clues in Inventory calling cards, IM window, and Find->People profiles to let us know who's in Busy or the new No-IM mode.

Did I leave anything out, folks?

I'd settle for an afk/busy message.

Or maybe in preferences, have an option to type in a response message (or just use the default) that would get added to your ini file or whatever. Then in "tools", a menu selection that just turns on and off response. That way you could leave AFK and Busy alone, and we could still use the response while say teaching a class (it might be confusing to be AFK or Busy while running an event or something just to get the response trigger).

Like all recommended features this should take 15 minutes to code and require no testing at all, so I look forward to a new version download today and enjoying this new option thanks so much go SL.

The 0.8 release will have an auto-response feature that will notify people that you are busy when they try to IM you. It will NOT notify them when the conversation window is open (i.e. you initiated the conversation or are currently responding to them).

Customizable responses will come at a future date.

AFK too? I don't use busy really at all since it shuts off the world...which might be trying in, say, a class.
