I <3 Sarah Nerd (and SLU).

I love Sarah too... from afar but love her all the same. I once ventured into land ownership and she was the person I contacted first. I bought a modest parcel from her at a fair price. Then purchased another in the same sim for the prim allotment. When I decided owning land was not the thing for me I contacted Sarah. She bought my land back for the original price and additionally bought my other parcel for the same price I paid.

She is an extremely good human being. Sarah... you deserve all the praise you get. As Raymond says... you rock.

And Raymond... you are a super good human too.

Cristiano... SLU is a great place... I left long ago because I am so shy and felt intimidated. Maybe I should come back and join the community. Time will tell.

Best to you all. Rosie

I think naming names in a positive context was prohibited here last week. Furthermore, this looks way too like discussion and therefore has been moved to "Resident Answers".

I do hope you give it another shot. I can understand that it could be intimidating, but it is a really great group of people. While there are arguments and drama at times, seeing the way that people make each other laugh and also come together to help when another when someone is in need is a wonderful thing. Here is an example of what I'm talking about:

http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/notices/7770-please-keep-brig-mcd-her-husband-your-thoughts.html

There are so many varied topics now that really it's just a matter of jumping in on something that interests you. Again, I really I hope you will give it another chance. The more varied the voices and people, the better it becomes :)

I've not paid much attention to SLUniverse blogs. There are so many sites on the internet and only so much time to look at them.

I wonder what the readership of an SLU related blog by an avatar at, say, wordpress.com compared to the same content published at an SLU blog. Would it get more traffic because of it's location?

Back in the old days at times the grid would go down and take the forums with it, and SLUniverse served as the emergency broadcasting system. Linden Lab staff would post crash related messages in the SLUniverse forums like they do in the LL Blog these days.

I think Cristiano forgot to mention that vBcode at forums.sluniverse.com works.

The vBulletin blogs feature is not really a replacement for a full dedicated blog if you blog a lot. However, the appeal of it is that it is fully integrated into the forums and is a collection of blogs from various members instead of a one off blog site. A lot of times there is stuff you want to say that doesn't necessarily fit into a thread, so it's convenient to have there.

It's still a relatively new product - I imagine they will continue to add new features to it over time. I also like the fact that a link to the user's blog entries with a count appears on their forum posts. That type of integration is nice.

What I'm not looking forward to is the update to vBulletin 3.7 - my forum is heavily customized so it's going to be a challenge, but it has some really nice new features. I'm going to wait until it's out of beta.

I honestly think without those buttons, the forum would have three times as many posts - it has cut down on the LOL and single smiley posts a lot, while being more expressive Ithink since it is attached to the post itself. The laugh button is my first experiment with hacking a hack - I could only find a thanks and groan button. There have been many suggestions for a fourth button, from hump to wheeze, but for now, I think I will keep it three

Thanks to SLU and Cris, I now have a permanent twitch in my right hand as I try to click on "Thanks" or "Laugh" buttons in forums that don't have that feature.

Ha ha ha! That was funny! <click> <click> <click>

:o Oh, right, I can't do that here....

SLUniverse.com = my favorite SL forums and the only one I visit with any regularity.

In addition, it's becoming a great source of information on the various open grid projects.

So, rather than being the best of both worlds, it's the best of ALL worlds. :)

I never felt I got any traction over at SLU. Maybe BECAUSE of the warmth and tightness of the community there? The thread cited in the OP is a good example - it's really sweet, but if you didn't know Brig was married and you've never intereacted directly with her, you might feel a little intrusive even posting your good wishes.

Similarly, because you can't honestly join in a Sarah Nerd lovefest because you've never met her, you've never been to SLCC, you don't know what happened at Second Citizen, and you've never seen a pic of Joshua's cock and don't really care to, you can feel a little ... out of step.

People are welcoming enough, it's just that they have connections with each other that you can see, but not duplicate.

How do you think they made those connections? They weren't born with them.

They came from a time when SL was a better place to socialize and through forums.secondlife when it was a better place to socialize. I've met two active posters on SLU in real life, have never been to an SLCC or even a Flip-Philly drinkfest. In fact, I probably annoy a goodly fraction of SLU denizens, yet I enjoy it (not the annoying people part).

Saying you are part of the outgroup by virtue of never having tried to be part of the group is a tad self-defeating.

These things take time and effort. It's no more or less clique-y there than it is here.
