I've rented and owned land in SL, but never built a house. My current "home" includes some parkland w/ a Buddha shrine, a building studio, and a deck with my store, gallery, and two drum circles. THere is a cave that I could furnish as a home, but so far it looks like someone's half-finished basement.

I own a home. It's in Cayuga! It's a PG sim and I don't do anything "mature" in SL anyhow hehe, so I can't comment on that aspect from above. :)

I just mostly have it to invite friends over, and I usually sit around there and listen to music when I'm not doing anything better. I also used to meet quite a few new people who would be flying by from the telehub sim nextdoor. Sometimes one of them would randomly pop in to see who the green dot on the mini-map was.

I think this was the most fun aspect of owning a home in SL, but doesn't seem to happen as much as it used to. If anyone would like to though, come visit me! :)

edit: whoops, I mistyped the sim location in the links. kind of hard to visit that way. :)

I think this is one cosequence of SL's population going from "small town" to "small city." When I joined it was still on a scale where you knew most people at least in passing or by reputation, and if you ran across someone once there was a good chance you'd see them again before long, so people tended to be friendlier. Now SL is large enough that people have split off into more insular groups and are less likely to approach strangers.

I still get the occasional fly-by guest, tho :). The coolest was when I logged on and found three people holding a drum-circle on my deck, and more people came and went over the following half hour or so. I think I'm going to change my plot description to "drum cafe." :D

Hehe yeah. It was pretty much a small city when i arrived in December. It seems even more so now though. Which is ok by me, I'd love to see them hit a million users. I just miss meeting the random green dots. :) That's pretty funny about the drum circle too hehe.. I've not had anything like that happen yet. :)

I'm in the process of building a home in Kitzbuhel on a 2480 sq. m. of land. Of course this is like the 8th or so house I've built and probably the same number of different pieces of land I've owned since being in SL.
