Well I don't know if this is the right place to post this...but I was wanting to do something IW for the Christmas holidays for anyone who has lost a loved one. I lost my dad (49 years old) just this year Feb. 23 in a freak accident at work. This Christmas is going to be hard for my family. I would like to ask you for some ideas of what you think I could do in memory of my dad and also would like to invite anyone out there who wants to participate. I know that we just had ppl make a quilt patch for the AIDS quilt, maybe something like that. :)

Oh yes if any Linden reads this please help me. TY. :)

Awww Paris... *hugs* I can relate: it was hard for me, and still is. 'cuz my own Dad died last year in August. I wonder if some sort of memorial could be set up that would not be totally mournful but respect the treasured recollections of our now passed loved ones.

Yeah, this would be very cool.

I want to get a sim named after my Dad :) And I'm going to put a little bench or a dock or something in it over looking a virtual ocean in his memory and then buy a lifetime land allotment.

And then I'm going to create a virtual prim-avatar that hangs out all the time and says all the really annoying things he used to say to anyone that passed by!! heh

It makes me wonder then... how many of us have lost loved ones so close to us in the last year or last few years? I remember reading that very touching article about BBC's father. That really warmed me up to the kind of human emotion that could be shown here in SL, in memory of a loved one.

(BTW for clarification when I refer to "my Dad" here, I'm referring to my RL father, not to SL Torley Jr.'s father Torley Sr., who was lost in a spacetime rift)

Paris - I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad, it's been 30 years since my Mom died and I still cry when I run across some ornament that was hers when I put up my tree every year.

Have you thought about a field of snow globes? Maybe a transparent globe with a memento of a persons loved one inside of the globe? (something like their picture or a picture of their favorite items or animal). You could either put them in a field like flowers or put a big tree up and hang them from a tree. You could make a really large one for your Dad with his favorite things inside of it.

Just a thought.

Hugs - Rose

Oh - and ANY way that I can help, let me know.

Paris - Whatever you decide to do, IM me and let me know what you come up with and how I can help. I can use photoshop and build. Hubby and I have both dabbled with scripting but he is much more into it than me and he'd be happy to help too.

That's a wonderful idea Paris, and I'm sorry to hear about your dad.

Maybe you could encourage people to build a gift or ornament... something their loved one would have enjoyed or that reminds them of some special time or some quality they had. They could all be placed under a giant tree with tags like the "to: from:" tags on real gifts that could have a message. Whatever you do, I hope it brings you some peace and comfort :)

Memorial Gardens in Grignano, Nova Albion
12-02-2004 15:18
Paris, Torley, blaze, Andie and others who have lost loved ones...

Planet Mars created the Memorial Gardens in Grignano quite a while back. It's a nice little place in Nova Albion where you can place memorials to family and friends who have passed on.

Take care,

Salazar

:( :( :(

I'm very sorry Paris for you and your family's loss. We ourselves may be facing this soon as my Dad to is not in good shape right now and we feel this will be his last Xmas. Some friends of mine have also lost several friends & family recently too...... Some idea's I thought of besides those already mentioned are:

- Actual bust or statues made in the image of the person who died.
- If a quilt is made, perhaps pics of the people can be added to it.
- A "art" galery showing these peoples LIVES insted of their deaths. To many focus on a close ones death when its actually more important to focus on HOW they lived insted.

"To love someone is to love the wind"
"One moment it caresses you"
"Then all too soon it is gone"
"Love the wind"
"For it love's you"
"Then is no more"

I once saw a memorial quilt that had books stitched all over it and on each book was stitched an important event in that persons life....i.e. graduations, marriage, births....the events were stitched in such a way as to look like titles on the books. I think that is a beautiful idea to remember a loved one.

I'm so sorry for your loss hon *big hugs* I think this is a brilliant & Very nice idea. I have lost my Aunt less then a year ago (december 30th) to lung cancer (I know it's for within the year but) I also lost an aunt & uncle to lung cancer the year before a month & a day apart. (Dec 22 & jan 23) this is a very hard time of year for me in my family. Please let me know what, if anything, you do Paris.

Paris,

My heart goes out to you and your family. I lost my father 2 years ago to a heart attack at age 56, and my grandmother a year ago, and each holiday season since then has been very difficult for me, especially the first one after my father died. It does eventually get easier to face, though by no means it is ever easy, as I am sure you already know. If there is anything I can do to assist in your project, or if you ever need someone to talk to, please let me know.

Hi Paris. I'm sorry for your loss, and I know how hard it is to lose people close to you like that. I think that's an excellent idea for a memorial. I think you could probably get the memorial land in Plum for that, as we did for the AIDS Quilt memorial. They are letting groups use the land in 2-week blocks of time, no tier charge, no dwell accumulated either. You should contact Robin Linden about it.

If you have any questions about putting together a memorial project, I'm happy to share with you what I learned doing the quilt project.
