I'm gonna submit one and see how it goes. I wish I could see a count of the number of times a person clicked the teleport button when looking at Fate Gardens in FIND. But I'm not offering any more suggestions that will cause the Lindens to change their plans or work harder than they already do.

I'm excited about the advent of Classified Advertising on the Find menu. However, I'm also wondering exactly how it will be implemented. Will the places that are to be advertised be displayed alphabetically when you open their corresponding section, or... how? By dwell? What sort of feature will differentiate this from the general Places tab, where you can search for keywords? Do we need to be conscious of keywords we include in our descriptions submitted for the ads?
I am raring to submit a classified ad, too, but was wondering about these specific points. Edit: I posted a question on the Linden Hotline forum page regarding these issues. _____________________

Beryl, you've asked all the right questions.
I wonder why the search for top places or any places only comes up with 20 or 100 entries so you can't browse further. Can't it do more? _____________________

It can do more, but the restriction was implemented to reduce load on the servers. However, you can move through the place results by clicking on the next button at the bottom of the screen. I kind of like it because it breaks the traditional "high dwell = high visibility" paradigm. Now, the results are broken up onto a number of pages so that more places get a chance to be listed near the top. It definitely benefits mid-dwell places. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but has this gone from $30 a week to $125 a week for the same thing? Or is being in find different, and still costs $30 a week for that? And this is something else you can get in addition?

I guess I'm the only person that thinks $125 a week is too cheap.

Initially the Classified Ads will work like the sponsored links - people will send their ads to us for posting on the page. I hope will have category search, similar to events, but if not then we'll post with the category first followed by name. So, like this:
LAND RENTAL: Ocean front 512m2 lot in MySim The listings will be alphabetical for now. No asterisks please. ![]() Eventually we'll build a widget that will let people set up their own ads (like Places), and there will be more robust search options. In response to Coco's questions -- this is in addition to Places, and will have its own tab under FIND. _____________________

I guess I'm the only person that thinks $125 a week is too cheap. ![]() No kidding. I'd vastly prefer a two week run to cost L$1000. Possibly more. I'm afraid we're going to see a lot of clutter. I wouldn't mind paying for premium (read: enormous) placement like in a newspaper. I guess we'll see what happens. _____________________

Not to go further off topic, but I have to disagree with this. The sorting of Find Places is now arbitrary, but it's not a lottery, and they definitely weren't looking out for the little guy when this decision was made. The order doesn't change that I've ever seen, except when places are unlisted and relisted. If you're on the first page, then you'll stay on the first page. If you're not, then you never will be. I'm not sure where my land falls on this list now, but I've gone through about 20 pages without finding it before giving up, and no casual shopper is gonna browse that far. That's regardless of how much work I put into dwell and how high my traffic is for the day. I don't think that's fair for anybody. _____________________

I'm going to wait and see how they're implemented before I pay the cash. If it's done as badly as Find, I'll give it a pass.

Hmmm... so there's apparently no search function in the Classified Ads (at first), and they're listed alphabetically... I guess I will be changing my shop's name to Aardvark Apparel to take advantage of this, er, feature.
I wonder if the little icons for advertised locations will show up on the map as the old Sponsored Links did? Oh, and I think that a properly implemented, well organized and useful classified advertising section should be more expensive than L$125/week. Heck, when the Lindens first allowed us to pay to list our property in the Find directory, they initially set the cost at L$500/week. A price closer to that would, as others have noted, weed out the inevitable clutter resulting from low-priced advertising. _____________________

I disagree, most ppl don't even notice the next button at the very bottom. Every day I click on it the same place is listed on the same first page in the same #1 position. The only reason I even noticed it was cus my place had more dwell than some on that first page. They definatly need to make that order of pages random on a daily basis. Mar _____________________

- Educational Services
The only missing thing for Classifieds ^. Should be interesting to see, however I think the whole Find itself needs a major overhaul to actualy be more usefull. Quick seggustion outline: - Arguement searching i.e. "animations -mall -club -casino" - Last/First name searches only (for People), i.e. "Bob -lastname" (or some such) - Saved preferences i.e. Option window with "Never Show Me THIS Type Of Event/Store/Property" perhaps containing a list of popular keywords, which then hides entries based on this (I select "Tringo" and any event containing "Tringo" is hidden). - Property Search by Resident Name (Exclude/Include Property Sold/Owned By ![]() Or other things such as above. _____________________

(snipped)- Property Search by Resident Name (Exclude/Include Property Sold/Owned By ![]() That's a brilliant idea. Love that. Many of us lack the ego and/or desire for name recognition (or constant IMs) to name our businesses after ourselves. This would be a huge boon. _____________________

I named my business after myself not because of ego or name recognition, but because I wasted all of my creativity on product and couldn't come up with anything better. |
