Seriously, Severe, I hope you realize that none of this is everyone else's fault? I *do* have some programming experience from other applications, and while LSL isn't all that complex there's the usual matters like learning the syntax and seeing how scripts I've written actually work. I'm getting there, but it's slow because I spend too much time dinking with Photoshop, shopping in game and clubbing with my friends. I'm not very focused -- but that's my own fault. Nobody else's

This Poll strikes me as one that should have not shown the respondants names.

I dont see how youd get an honest sampling of the forum population when many wont want their income known to everyone.

In addition some who responded may not be aware they were puttign their incomes up to reveiw.

And Since the Original Poster is in the Highest (1,000,000+) category it also really comes off as bragging.

Though I dont think that was the intnet, the impression is there.

My income is bascially static I dont make siginificantly more then I spend. Id like to make $300L more a week so I can do a touch more shopping and less window shopping , but im basically doing fine.

Theres probably a lot of people like that.

Theres also a lot of people who are losing money in SL. Some of these see the very sucessful people and spend even More of their RL money at GOM in ill concieved business ventures.

A potentially Biased / skewed poll does not , in my opinion , have a lot of merit.

If we round down a little, I've accumulated about $24,000 through stipends and bonuses. I've been here about 24 months, so that means I've made about $1000 a month on average. I barely qualify for blaze's poll I'm so poor!

I'm really an "Other". I'm running a loss. Oh well. don't blame me, blame my alt.

How dare they try to earn 50% of minimum wage. The limit should be 10% of minimum wage, tops. All they do is type on their keyboards, after all. How hard is that!

This poll is itself kind of elitist.

I can safely say that myself and all of my closest friends in the game make significantly less than the lowest figure quoted.
(i.e. between zero and 50$ a week.)

Perhaps it was not intended as such, but this is just an opportunity for people to do a lot of bragging.

I think Blaze means Linden dollars, not USD.

I think I'm going to sit this one out. Participating in this poll will only make people think that I'm either a braggadocios rich girl, or the founder of a failed and unprofitable venture. I don't see a winning answer here

Most people I know either make $500L+ ratings a week and spend it all (monthly accounts) OR $50L+ratings a week and spend it all ($10 for life accounts).

So Net proffit per week is Zero.

A lot I know buy Lindens on GOM so net proffit is less than Zero heh

Severe, if it makes you feel any better, you can get your little pixel to do this. Although, you have to go play TSO. Skill your lil sim for like 100 hours at some boring house where they don't talk and you have to make sure you eat, sleep and pee. After that, you may have saved yourself the 10k but you really will want to be shot.

I've been playing for a week with a basic account and here's my breakdown:

-Started the game with L$250
-Someone in the welcom area gave me L$20 for some reason.
-Went to a major casino and got up to L$400+ playing blackjack.
-Lost ALL of it playing blackjack the same day.
-With no money, decided to start building a cool particle-blade lightsaber in a sandbox as my first project.
-During construction (while I was still learning) a bystander bought my work in progress for L$50.
-Went back to the casino and ended with L$275.
-Another bystander bought my slightly more progressed unfinished lightsaber for L$100.
-Lost some more money at the casino.

Now, after one whole week as a newbie, I've made (and lost most of) L$600+ by basically screwing around. I didn't try to push people to buy my stuff, they just asked if they could have it because it looked cool while I was working on it, so I set a low price (considering that all it really did was look cool at that point).

I guess as a newbie I don't really understand what people spend so much money on, unless they're trying to make RL money. I don't own land, I don't generally buy stuff for myself (because I prefer to make my own...) Gambling has been my only real money sink.

Ok I'm rambling now. Feel free to shoot down the noob if you want, but I'm bored at work and I felt like contributing to the community.

However, once I perfect my Second Life Automated Cavern Kits (SLACK) I will be a millionaire!

Ok..I really haven't even begun to work on them, have no idea how I would ever make them automated, and no one would probably buy them...but still...

scripting takes time too. i'm sure if you went 50-50 on a project or some other figure that accurately accounted for the relative amount of effort the project required, you could get a scripter willing to work with you. i don't know anything about scripting and that is the approach i took and it took me a whole of 5 minutes to find a scripter interested in what i wanted to do.

don't be demoralized. instead of hiring a scriptor, make them a partner.

its an interesting poll, and i am sure a lot of us would be curious to see what an accurate spread of income ranges are IW, but if you want to get honest answers on a poll like this it really should be anonymous.
