From: Talen Morgan $3.25 here in maryland....and heard nationwide gas will be about $4.00 by the end of next week.
The major suppliers have already started rationing to the pumps east of the rockies....although they call it allocation. what part of maryland, Talen? Come get gas in AA Co. We held at 2.99 a gallon this morning when I was coming to work. No idea what it will be like by the end of the week, though.

Around USD $ 5.3 / gallon in East Europe. My old (10 yrs old) car goes 27.6 miles per gallon. Newer, better average European cars do 33 - 39 mpg, some extra special ones can even do 50-60 mpg, though those are very rare.
Yes, I know that probably the reasons some have posted here are right, since I can easily use mass transportation in my city to get almost anywhere within 30-90 minutes, still, isn't buying smaller and more efficient cars an option for americans?

From: Zonax Delorean still, isn't buying smaller and more efficient cars an option for americans? Yes it is...not sure about those mpg's though. I haven't bought a car in 4 years and I was out shopping yesterday. Problem is, the smaller more efficient cars do not have enough room for me and my family *5 people*. So I am trying to find something mid-range.

From: Judah Jimador I don't drive, but I'll look around today and see what the new posted prices are. I think our local prices are largely an academic issue by now, though, since central Phoenix apparently pretty much sold out yesterday -- jj I *DID*????? P2

Regular was $2.79 at the gas station by my office when I came in this morning. They've raised it at least twice today and now it's $3.07. Now I'm really glad I bought a Golf TDI last November. I filled up Sunday and I have 400 more miles to go before I have to fill up again! Haven't noted diesel prices today, though.

I filled up yesterday morning at about 9 AM at $2.79, which was bad enough. I keep breaking my own record for "the most I have ever paid in my life for a gallon of gas." Of course, I guess we all do. To put things in perspective, I used to say, "Good thing our cars don't run on MILK!" back when gas was $1.50 a gallon and milk was $2.60. Guess that's not the case any more. (Hmmm... a milk-powered car?) But how's THIS for the new adage to replace that... it's a good thing our cars don't run on Starbuck's coffee... Made a short business trip to a nearby town, and got back at around 4 PM, and it had jumped to $2.99 in that time. P2

Saw on the news this morning, way over $6, not sure where though. And again, if you're in Europe, complain to your government before you call Americans "whiners"... Even though...Americans are whiners about gas prices. Good thing I drive less than once a week now! Woohoo! Suckersssssss!!

I don't doubt that, it seems the SE of the country is screwed... I don't think even cutting gas taxes to zero there will help.

Sheeesh! - A report from Chicago's far northeastside
09-01-2005 16:46
Filled (well, partially) up yesterday, at 3.09 for premium at the Citgo down the street from me, however, the day before I saw 3.17 about a 1/4 further from my house at a BP/Amoco station.
My 13 year old car gets pretty decent mileage considering and generally I only have one to two days a week where I go any distance at all, so I'm hoping this will normalize quickly.
Last job, I was filling the tank every 5 - 7 days, so I'm thankful to not need so much gas these days.
And yes, us USA folks are transport whimps. And yes, Europe is more mass transit friendly than the USA in general. And yes, Europeans walk more on average than USA lumpy citizens. And yes, the USA is just a wee little bit more spread out than the bulk of Europe.
And yet, this still sucxs, for everyone, most especially for the horrific cause of the price jump and the much more important human cost.
Here's hoping all gets dried out, repaired and made whole again quicker than estimated!
