Griefer DJs?

I hardly use the forum to discuss an in-world problem....BUT
enough is enough...
I was Djing at a club yesterday...scheduled from 3 to 6PM pst. Playing requests and talking to the audience. So generally..having fun. About an hour passed...a girl entered the club wearing a DJ tag of another station. The club owner was away for a while. She claimed I was playing on auto-mode after listening to my stream for 30secs. I guess my jingle in the transition between two songs gave her brain that impression. So she announced with a notion of messiahism "I will save you all"! Then she came up to the stage where I was dancing and said, "get down there, I DJ now". I thought to myself "wth..."! Having thought that, I see the green messages of the radio tuner changing the station...to her station´s stream. She started playing her favorite rap tune (I have nothing against good rap music/just that mp3 she played was crappy...maybe 64kbit or something)! Congratulations! Now imagine how the audience reacted...kinda predictable when they hear their requested track and it gets cut off in the middle. 30 secs later she turned me back on...not with an appology...nope, she actually goes "now shut up already, I put him back on!" Then she left...
Now we have griefer DJs too in SL?
At least there´s a happy end to the story. The boss of her station fired her asap.
From my RL experience as DJ...I can only say...that i never observed such an amateur behavior.
Plus...a little advice: If you ever feel like you wanna DJ...don´t just play YOUR favorite music...the audience is your capital. They tip you and when they like you they will ask for you to come back...you should never insult your own audience. It´s like chopping of the very hand that feeds you. If you wanna play ur favorite music...pay for your own stream and start playing on your land or get a stereo in RL. Most FM radio stations in the real world have programmed playlists that the hosts/DJs on air may not change. IF they do they get fired. These playlists are choosen carefully by reasearch, charts analysis and other factors - sometimes even intuition. This is SL not RL...and the main factor should be fun. ...don´t ruin other people´s fun here with egoism. SL is too great for that. And don´t take yourself too serious...like I do at times LOL...
If that same person reads this, you may contact me and we can talk. I´m not mad at you or something but you gave a parade example for bad manners yesterday and that puts a bad light on all DJs out there working hard to entertain people in SL. And I will certainly not "shut up".
Nuff said.

The MJ "Beat It" video came to mind when reading this, not sure why.
Edit: Now that that I think about it. She's probably West Coast and you're East Coast. I think a drive by is in order.
Edit2: Oh wait you're in Germany... North Coast?

LOL...nah...west coast...of this river here...err...
ya well...there´s a common courtesy among DJs. and I think that´s basically the same in RL and SL. imagine you go into a RL club, think to yourself..."oh, not quite my music" and kick the DJ out of the booth. You would be escorted outside by a pair of bouncers...to say the least.

I hear you Dom... As a Manager of DJs in Transylvania we carefully select our DJs ... the audience is our life blood you insult them or ignore them the can always wander somewhere else. I'm saddened to hear that someone would act so rude like that. Anyone who knows Dom knows he is a RL DJ and rocks he house no matter where he is!! Dom you have always been one of my fav DJs infact in away you gave me my start. My hats off to you! As for geifers.... they need to go back and play on the teen grid where they belong most of them are underagers anyway.
Much DJ love, Bcreative Wilde ^V^^V^ Transylvania Where The Party Never Dies ^V^^V^

Dominik, why is your radio tuner letting anybody other than the person who's supposed to be DJing, DJ? Surely having a system that only accepted interaction from the DJ who is DJing would solve this? Doesn't one of those exist? Or am I missing something blindingly obvious here?

Oh I am a dj and that is totally uncalled for... You never ever try to tread on a place where someone else has already been established. Did she have group permission to be able to change the radio streamer like she did? PM me or im me in world I would love to know who this was so I can tell my station to not pick her up. LOL Chris, if you have a certain genre that you like then just make sure everyone knows up front about it. But try to fill the requests and you will get a great listener base. Last night, I dj'd *for the first time in a longgggggg time* but I spammed my list *yes I spammed since it had been awhile LOL* gave the url and had a bunch of people tuning in from their lots. I was playing anything from kool and the gang, get down on it to Kid Rock, Cowboy to Tupac California Love. But that way I hit all the different music tastes.

Moopf, thank you for your input. I´m aware of that. The tuner there uses a notecard with people who are authorized to change the stream with this tuner. Unfortuneatly she was on the list. I wasn´t...that´s changed now.

That would piss me off if someone did that to me! Fortunately I have a really good relationship with the club owners/landowners that stream my show so really no chance for someone switching the stream on me during my show! Good luck Dom! [shameless plug] [/shameless plug]

And don´t take yourself too serious...like I do at times LOL... Indeed! We are all here to have fun and to share our music and talents to entertain others, as well as, ourselves. This kind of behaviour is uncalled for! I am thankful to have been blessed in meeting and working with many of SL's top DJ's. Currently, the team that I work with is PlushRadio. And, it is a joy to work with. We are all courteous and concious of our playlists. I had the same experience as manager of Gravity Space Station. My point is, if you want success as a DJ or a radio station, good manners, good tunes, humilty, & graciousness are key. All that being said, *Let's ROCK SL!* DJ Dreams

Oh wow! Sorry that happened to you Dominik!! I am very happy to hear that the other DJ was fired by her employer. I have a lot of favorite DJs in SL from a variety of stations (including you Dom!! hehe), and for the most part I think all the DJ stations do a wonderful job of bringing entertainment to SL. This is actually the first I've heard of a DJ "griefing" another DJ, so hopefully it is something that won't happen often!

I would suggest that any of my fellow DJ's out there please join my "DJ's United" group if you have room... Me and Sky Zircon created it a while back as a place where DJ's could share resources and help eachother out with technical problems, etc. But that's also a good place where we can help keep our "DJ morals" in check, if we hear about bad practices etc. like the one in this thread ehh? /waves at Pendari hey u ever listen to me?

Surely having a system that only accepted interaction from the DJ who is DJing would solve this? Doesn't one of those exist? Or am I missing something blindingly obvious here? That was my first question (which has now been answered). My next question was: "How unethical is it for a DJ to walk into a club where they're not actively DJ'ing, wearing a DJ tag?" I attend a lot of dance parties in SL, and the DJ tag is how I identify who is talking (before they actually announce their names anyway). If someone else is wearing a DJ hat from another station, it's confusing. And, I would think, professionally questionable. That said, this is just another case of rude, stoopid behavior. If she got fired, justice has been served. (Of course, from the sounds of things she will still blame everyone else).

well, as I mentioned before there´s a common courtesy among DJs. Even if I totally hated what a DJ is playing or is technically messing things up - I wouldn´t say that out loud. Tolerance...is my maxim. If someone asks for my advice I will certainly be honest and describe what could be done ...so called "airchecking". DJs all need feedback...and of course we are all a bit narcissistic

And, I would think, professionally questionable. Ok, personally, I wear my DJ tag a lot, because it's a very key thing of what I do. I don't see it as being professionally questionable. To me, it's akin to wearing a t-shirt for something (like a club) while at someone else's club. I think the professional unethical stuff would come if a DJ comes in and starts verbally or distractingly promoting their station during someone else's broadcast. Of course, if the DJ was uncomfortable with me wearing the tag, I'd totally take it off, for mutual respect, but just wearing it around shouldn't make things confusing. I've never been mistaken for the DJ actually on air before either, since most personalities tend to let people know who they are and who to send IMs/requests to....lots. Anyway, just my thoughts on it. If everyone else thinks differently, I may rethink my position though.

...but I have to admit...the whole incident had an entertaining factor... cause 30secs after she changed the stream I was back on...guess what I did when I opened the mic? oh, and Beastie Boys - Sabotage is always a good track...
